spring

he doesn't know why he loves her.

he is winter and she is spring.

but perhaps it's because she brings everything back to life and he wants nothing more than to be alive and to feel something more than the cold.

his throne of ice melts at her touch and he wishes that she could melt him too, because he shouldn't be alive.

he knows this because he feels for his heartbeat and finds none.

summer

.

.

.

he is summer and he is bright – bright hair and bright smile, brighter than her.

spring is radiant but summer is blazing and they talk and they laugh and he stands on the corner of the world, his frozen throne bringing him no comfort.

if he was summer then maybe she would like him more.

he grits his teeth and he lashes out storms and cold winds that bite their cheeks before his arms drop back to his sides, anger spent.

and all that's left is loneliness.

fall

.

.

.

sometimes he wishes that he is fall, because then at least he could hold her, if he wanted.

and oh, how he wanted to.

but then he sees the leaves fall and the flowers die and he sees how far apart they would be and he is glad that he is close enough.

it doesn't help that fall looks out of place, with the saddest green eyes he's seen.

he is lonely, but at least he's not broken.

winter

.

.

he is the dead trees, the snow covered ground, the puff of smoke that she gasps out angrily as she sits on his cold throne when he finally relinquishes his crown.

if things were different, if spring came before winter, he would probably ruin her and everything about her until there is nothing left but bony hands and her crown of wilted flowers.

and perhaps if he is selfish enough, he will hold her in his arms and freeze her heart along with his.

but he loves her – loves her so much that he is willing to overlook how she ruins his perfect world covered in white with her greens and browns.

despite everything, he will always be waiting for spring.
