Nightmare
A Rizzoli & Isles Fanfic.
Her fingers shook as they worked the zipper on the heavy black body bag. She knew what she would find inside and every inch of skin that was revealed killed her a little more inside.
Jane. Her Jane. Dead and cold upon her table waiting for her knives to pierce her skin. She had hoped and prayed that this job Jane adored would not be the end of her even though all along she had felt the gut sensation that told her she would be losing her friend, her lover, long before her time.
Her face was pale and her dark hair lank. The gunshot wound grasped all attention on her face as it peaked up from her forehead. Her eyes were closed and Maura wished that they would open again and look up at her; that the lips, once so rosy, would smile and press a kiss against her own.
But she remained still as Maura began cataloging. Pictures and details and charts and papers. Clothing and samples and analyses. It was so cold and informal and Maura struggled to keep her tears from staining the pages. She refused to allow someone else to autopsy her beloved.
She would sit here and do her job as Jane would have done. But that didn't stop the tears from falling across the pale, cold cheeks.
.
"Maura?" Jane rubbed her arm soothingly. "What's wrong?"
She wiped away the tears from her cheeks and turned to her. "Nothing. Just…just a bad dream."
"You want to talk about it?"
She was quiet. No, she didn't want to talk about it. She just wanted to lay here with Jane's living arms around her, comforting her.
"No. Just hold me for a while."
And Jane did. Until the pair faded back into sleep.
A/N: Short, I know. This is my first adventure into Rizzoli & Isles Fanfiction although I've been a fan and avid watcher of the show for a while and love the leading actresses. (Loved Sasha on NCIS as well. Go Kate!)
So comments are greatly appreciated. This is also my first foray into femmeslash and I know it's nothing too explicit or anything. I'm usually so busy slashing up the boys that I forget about all the female loving. Alas, no longer. I shall attempt, if this was any good, to write more for this show and the pairing in the future.
Thanks for reading!
