Smallville: Redux

Chapter 3

AN: Hello everyone, it's been a long time. Anyway I had to refresh myself on both this fic and Smallville as a whole for this chapter. It's actually been about 60% complete for a while so I just wrote the rest of it in the last few days. It's shorter than usual but that's just to get me back in the right frame of mind. Also I realized a bit late that I got rid of all of the meteor rocks and got rid of the 'freak of the week' thing in the process.

Now as a bit of a refresher this story will crossover with the Arrow-verse shows, in fact for the sake of this story Smallville is set on the same Earth as Arrow and Flash were initially. This means that the Superman we get will by Tom Welling, Erica Durance is Lois Lane and so forth. I don't watch the Supergirl show except for the crossovers so that's why you shouldn't expect many of those character versions in this. Also mythology wise I took a bit of inspiration from the Man of Steel movie and Krypton tv show.

This fic will also now be a harem fic, and I already know who will be involved though it will come together slowly, over years. That said I do not need suggestions on who should be involved as they'll just be ignored. Anyway that's all I've got so here is the new chapter.

Start Now:

To say that the passing of time for young Clark Kent had been nice was an understatement. True to Pete's words an influx of government agencies had come out to Smallville for testing purposes and checks had indeed gone out to all of the farming families, or those whose business revolved around farming. The Kent's had been surprised by the amount they had received, which had been more than enough to get them out of the small debt that they had been in. Clark had managed however to get his parents to agree to a few investments and while four of the five were already pretty big Clark just knew that the levels would only boom in the future and had jumped at the opportunity to cash in. While none of these investments came about due to future knowledge he just had a gut feeling about it.

Even though the past few months had gone by without too many problems Clark had still found himself pretty busy. The school had replaced their pyromaniac football coach however Clark had still turned down the offer to join the newly reformed football team. Instead he was spending his time split between the Torch and his Kryptonian studies. His cousin Kara had begun his instruction in the Kryptonian language and history which in turn meant learning of their family history. Of course that wasn't enough for Kara who upon learning of his grades in school immediately demanded he stop holding himself back and that his parents would never have tolerated such things.

At the moment the young Kryptonian could be found within his loft within the barn as his eyes flew over the contents of a journal. For most people the contents would be illegible as only he and Kara could actually read it as it was written in Kryptonian. The language had actually been implanted directly into his mind, one of the few things Jor-El was actually capable of while trapped inside the cave. Anyway he was currently reading his journal one he had created so that he could go about everything he had learned from his memories of his future's past. As he had already changed something majorly a lot of things may come about differently or not come about at all according to Jor-El at least.

Also thanks to the fact that he actually had no idea what he was going to face in the future for the most part he had decided to learn as much as he could not only in terms of intellectual pursuits but in self-defense as well. For this one particular reason he had sought out to learn martial arts. It was that conversation in particular that led to Kara telling him she believed that his parents had let their fears control them and she was glad they were not too late to reverse the damage. Of course none of this was easy, however if there was one thing that growing up on a farm as the son of Johnathan Kent had taught him it was the value of hard work. Whatever the case his teachers were happy in the uptake of his work having expected an improvement in his work after his story exposing Luthor came out.

With his rise from a C average student to leading the head of the pack and him finally embracing his heritage Kara had hit him with a bomb, announcing that she would be leaving. Having missed out on her purpose for even coming to Earth with her younger cousin already able to care for himself she had decided it was time for her to learn to do the same. It had been a discussion that had called in Jor-el as well who while disappointed had supported her desire to find her own way. After much discussion she had gone to work with Dr. Swann who had helped her craft a new identity under the name of Karen Starr.

As for him when he wasn't following his intellectual pursuits he was usually out training. The new football coach had basically given him free reign to use the gym as he pleased once he told him that he wasn't in football shape. As far as the coach was concerned his training now was in preparation for the next season. Every day when not using the gym equipment he did runs that had started as Cross County and had slowly built to Cross Country to help train both his endurance and his speed. Having seen an example of what someone with super speed could really do he had a good example of something to strive for.

As it was his speed had grown tremendously from about sixty five miles per hour to about five hundred and twenty. While not bad he knew he still had a long way to go and his current goal was to be able to break Mach one. He'd had a dream just the other night about eating burrito's in Mexico and knew that at his current speed it would take over three hours just to get there. According to the math he'd come up with in order to get a decent time he'd have to be moving at nearly Mach Five which was over three thousand miles per hour. He had figured out that his powers grew the more that he pushed himself and as such he had taken to exhausting himself on an almost daily basis.

That said as hard as he was working he also spent time to just relax and have fun. One of the last things Kara had told him before her departure was to enjoy his youth as he would only get it once. With the restrictions his parents had placed on him loosened and mostly gone he felt a weight he hadn't even realized he was carrying on him lift. As mentioned previously he and Chloe had begun spending a lot of their free time together and on Saturday's they would usually be found in Metropolis. The pitter patter of little feet had him looking up just in time to catch a small white blur that had launched itself at him. Laughing he held the excitable small pup that had pure white fur and deep red eyes that appeared almost exactly like a Northern Inuit Dog. He had been a gift from Kara, apparently Jor-El had used one of the family pups on a test run about a week prior to his own ship being sent.

The pups pod however had never made it and she had shown him how to call the pup's ship down by using his own. The pup much like Kara had been placed into cryo-sleep with a freeze on his aging. As such he was still rather young and only a couple of months old. Jor-El had then revealed that he had launched all five pups and the family dog Krypto into space prior to his own departure and he'd since tracked all of them to the moon. Kara had taken one of the pups with her whom she had named Lyca. He had given Chloe the other girl whom she had named Boudicca after the Warrior Queen of Iceni; at least that was what she said he knew however she got the name from the Gargoyles cartoon and only did the research to back her up. Pete had taken one of the boys whom he had named Bishop. He himself had kept Krypto along with two pups that he'd named Shadow and the other that he was now holding he named Odin.

Looking at the time and seeing it was almost time for him to head out he stood and making sure he had a good hold of the pup leapt over the banister landing easily and lightly on his feet. Putting the little guy down he was not surprised when he was immediately followed into the house where he proceeded to lay out the dog chow and water for Odin and Shadow. Turning slightly to his right he was not surprised to see Krypto standing before him looking more like a large wolf than a dog and standing a full head taller than any full grown wolf. Despite his rather intimidating appearance however Krypto was a softy at least to those he liked which was proven when he nuzzled him in his best imitation of a hug.

"You know for a dog that size he's rather affectionate." Said Martha as she entered the room.

"Apparently he wasn't raised as a guard but as a companion." Said Clark giving his mother a kiss on the cheek before heading to wash up.

Nearly fifteen minutes later he returned wearing a pair of light blue jeans with a red t-shirt and his blue denim jacket. After breakfast which was already on the table when he came down he left secure in the knowledge that Krypto would help his parents look after the curious pups. Done with breakfast he gave his mother another kiss on the cheek before heading out of the door where he disappeared in a burst of speed.

When he came out of his super-speed run it was in front of the Smallville Retirement Center. The center was actually an old mansion next to Lemaris Pond that had been built and lived in by the towns founding family the Smalls though had since then been donated to the town by the family. The reason for his presence however was actually school related as every Smallville High student had to complete 30 hours of community service. Pete had chosen to do his as a lifeguard for the girl's swim class over at the Boys and Girls Club and he honestly couldn't blame him. As for why he'd chosen the retirement center well the answer to that question made herself known as he was walking through the halls.

"Hi Clark. Glad you could make it" Said Lana coming to a stop in front of him pushing a small rolling bookshelf.

Lana had asked him to help out around here once he told her he wasn't doing anything a few days ago. At that point he still wasn't sure what he would be doing and as he had nothing better to do had agreed to help her out.

"Did you get in the companion program?" questioned the girl

"Yeah, I'm supposed to be reading to a woman named Cassandra."

"She's an interesting one. Some of the nurses say she can see the future." Said the girl

"Interesting. Have you met her?"

"No but let me know how it goes." Said the girl with a smile before moving on.

Cassandra Carver as it turns out was a nice woman. Though blinded by the meteor shower her other senses such as hearing she had trained enough so that she could tell whenever someone crossed the threshold to her room and even the number of people. Smiling as he took a seat across from the elder he opened the book and started the reading of the story she had wanted to hear today in this instance a Sherlock Holmes tale The Hound of Baskerville.

Meanwhile Lex Luther sighed as he massaged the bridge of his nose in his seat in the office. Despite the fact that they'd ousted Lionel and cooperated fully with the federal investigators in charge of things Luthorcorp's stock had plummeted in the wake of his father's misdeeds coming to light. He himself had taken advantage and bought up a lot of it when the prices had dropped low enough for his liking. Not only that but his father had surprisingly seen the way things were blowing and during a meeting with his lawyer had signed over a majority of his assets to Lex if only so they wouldn't be seized by the government. He'd been smart as while they'd taken a lot in terms of cash and its equivalents the non-liquid assets had been untouched for the most part. As it was Lionel would be rotting in a federal prison for the next few decades at the least as the only things they couldn't get him on was the Queen Family murders.

Because they cooperated fully the company had been able to continue as it had though there were new restrictions and penalties that had to be paid. Unfortunately, they'd also lost some big money contracts in the fallout as well. The Board had elected a whole new team into key positions and someone else had become the CEO, though this was a man who was nearing retirement. He however was to remain in charge of things in Smallville for the time being as they basically wanted him to grow into the position of CEO and not just hand it to him.

Other than that he was pretty much confined to the mansion. With many of the things that had been uncovered in his fathers trial the people of Smallville were not the most open of people to the Luther heir at the moment. Of course their real ire was with Lionel and even Luthercorp as a whole for their actions, still Lex felt no desire to go out and see the temperament of the people himself. As such he now found himself with plenty of idle time and without his father breathing down his neck was taking time to study things that caught his attention. With his focus over the last few months he found himself flying through the subjects at a rate far exceeding what he'd done in school, though at the time he actually hadn't really cared. Thankfully, he still had his staff pretty much intact though he'd lost one as one of the groundskeeper's children was discovered to be a meteor mutant and had been shipped off to be cured. The family had all gone with him, which was expected due to his young age, but Lex had informed the groundskeeper that the job would be waiting for him should they decide to return to Smallville. His thoughts on the matter were broken by the ringing of his phone.

"FBI Agents Spencer and Cooper to see you, sir." Came the voice of his secretary.

He grimaced at that at this point he thought he'd be done with Fed's hounding him. He'd cooperated fully, his father's trial was done and as such Lex should have been free and clear at least from the FBI. While he still had to deal with the EPA as well as Kansas's departments of Health and Agriculture, he should have been free and clear

"Send them in." said Lex with a sigh

The pair that entered were a male and a female. The male introduced himself as Agent James Cooper while the woman was introduced as Agent Kate Spencer.

"So how can I help you?" questioned Lex after the greetings were exchanged.

"Clark, are you here?'

The voice had Clark rather groggily sitting up from his relaxed position on the couch in the barns loft. Why Chloe had to yell he had no idea, she knew he could hear her if she so much as whispered.

"Yeah, upstairs."

As she crested the stairs Chloe froze in place. Clark was sitting up on the couch only wearing a pair of basketball shorts exposing a torso that was quite lean but quite muscular with a six pack of abs clearly defined. His arms and legs were also covered with muscles showing his time in the gym had definitely been paying off.

"See something you like?" quipped Clark seeing her stare.

"Yes." Said the girl though blushing at both being caught ogling and at the admittance and she didn't know how to feel when he slid a shirt on to cover the sight

"So what's going on?" questioned the Kryptonian teen motioning her to sit which she did.

"Clark can we be honest with each other?" questioned the girl getting a raised eyebrow from him.

"Chloe I've told you my most closely guarded secret, I think we've established that." Said Clark causing her to exhale.

"I like you Clark, I really, really like you. I know you like Lana, but have you ever thought about me, that way." Said the girl causing him to sigh and lean back into the seat.

"I've thought about it a few times, especially over the last few months." Admitted Clark getting a small smile from her.

"I talked to Kara, she told me you have memories from a future version of yourself, she thought I already knew since I know everything else. Do you have memories of me, did we ever try being together?" questioned the girl

"No we didn't. My other self was blind to it for a long time and only found out after you had moved on." Said Clark causing her to sigh and shake her head.

"I didn't move on Clark, not freely. I gave up on you, on the possibility of us." Said Chloe before she seemed to firm up.

"Anyway like I said I talked to Kara and we discovered a problem, one I don't think you've considered." Said the girl after a few moments

"Oh, what's that?"

"Your duty to your people." Said the girl confusing him judging by the look he sent her way.

"I'm talking about procreation." Said the girl causing him to blush heavily causing her to giggle.

"Clark you and Kara are the last of your race. If you don't take steps your race will die out. You need children, not now but you will in the future. Kara won't be enough, not if she wants a life outside of just having babies." Said Chloe

"Okay, your right I hadn't really thought about that, nor has Jor-El brought it up." Said Clark though still blushing slightly.

"That's because he's an A.I. from the mind of a scientist and stripped of emotion. According to Kara your mother always had to remind him of things he'd overlooked. This was one of those things, that's why Kara was sent. Not just to help raise you but act as your support." Said the girl

"What are you getting at Chloe?" questioned the boy.

"You're smarter than that so don't make me spell it out. We've done the math on this you'll need a lot of support, more than just the two of us can provide. I told Kara about Lana but that still won't be enough. Think about it and if you agree the three of us can sit down and talk. You'll need to tell us more of course if you agree to this both about our own lives at that point and about your own. Just think about it okay." Said the girl before leaning over to kiss his cheek and leaving him there in a stupor, doing her best to appear she wasn't trying to run now that her courage had been drained.

After Chloe's bombshell he hadn't been able to get back into his state of relaxation. Instead he'd gotten dressed and sped off to the Kawatche caves to consult with Jor-El. After admitting that he had overlooked this factor the A.I. gave him a lesson on Kryptonian relationship standards both prior and after the restrictions had been put into place by the High Council. Multiple relationships as it turns out were not unheard of on Krypton and many other planets in the 28 galaxies that they had studied. In fact in Kryptonian culture as an heir to a noble house and even more one of the five ruling houses he would be well in his right to have multiple spouses and in fact would have been expected to do so. After the Reformation Act was put in place however they were limited to one spouse and the number of children were limited. This is what gave rise to the construction and use of the Genesis Chamber and the Growth Codex from which children were genetically engineered after carefully selected and compatible parents were chosen.

To be completely honest the knowledge of the Growth Codex horrified him and did much to explain the actions of General Zod. Children born in this manner were bred for a specific purpose and had no choice in the path their life was to take. Zod had been created to be Krypton's protector and as such that was all he cared about and all other commitments or relationships would be swept aside for that goal. Jor-El however was bred to be a scientist and as such was highly logical so much so that he was actually emotionally distant. He was the first baby born naturally in centuries, in blatant violation of this law, though this gave him the free will to choose his own path. He'd left the caves with much to think about and as such had simply took off running.

The next week seemed to go by in a blur, mostly because he knew he was distracted by this new dilemma. Chloe was understanding and was giving him time to figure it out, though they still spent time together both in the Torch and outside of it. Unfortunately, Pete wasn't really available for much of the time with all of the practices he needed to attend as basketball season was coming up. In truth the only time he wasn't thinking about it was when he was doing his workouts in the school's weight room. As such it was no surprise that when he arrived at the Retirement Center the next Saturday it was still on his mind.

"Right on time, come in and take a seat Mr. Kent."

Came the voice of the elderly woman he'd been assigned to the previous week. He knew she used to be a teacher at Met U and wasn't surprised by the address she gave him, as she seemed to do for everyone she interacted with.

"I know this week has been a bit troubling for you, perhaps I can help you out." Said the woman.

"How'd you know?" questioned Clark.

"It's my gift, the Meteor Shower may have taken my sight, but it gave me the ability to peer into the future and its many branching paths." Answered the woman

"I'm sorry." Said Clark softly.

"Don't be child. What happened was not your fault and you will affect more lives than you imagine in the times to come. You have already saved many that would have fallen through the cracks if not for your story in the Daily Planet." Said Cassandra shocking the teen.

"You know about that?" questioned Clark in surprise.

"I have been seeing you in my visions for years young man. I knew that story was coming months prior to its release." Said the woman waving it away

"Now give me your hand, let me show you the paths open to you." Said the elder holding out her left hand.

Almost absently he extended his hand and placed it in hers. A few moments after contact he watched as her hands began glowing slightly before flashing a brilliant gold.

That night the barn house loft of the Kent Farm played host to a meeting between Clark, Kara and Chloe. After seeing the two paths that were available for his future regarding this choice it hadn't taken him long to make his decision. With that in mind he had called Kara to arrange the time to meet and afterwards called Chloe and told her when to come. The two girls were currently sitting on the couch while Clark stood leaning against the railing facing them.

"So I've thought about your proposal, both the pros and cons to it. I've also spoken to Jor-El and gotten his input on the situation." Said Clark with both girls paying him their undivided attention though Chloe was clearly the more nervous of the two.

"After thinking on it for a while I've come to agree with your solution to this issue." Clark had to smile at the large grin that covered Chloe's face, which in all honesty was a large part of his agreement, he hated to see his friends unhappy.

"However if we do this it will be just as it was on Krypton, full relationships all around." As he finished he could see Chloe was a bit confused but Kara was completely understanding.

"I can agree to that." Said Kara after a moment.

"Good, it will be up to you to explain this to my parents as well." said the boy getting a nod from her.

"How did it work on Krypton?" questioned Chloe.

"It was a true multiple marriage, in that the wives were married to each other as much as to their husband." Said Kara much to her surprise.

"So Clark tell us about the women you think are worth it." Said Kara.

"Well you both know about Lana but that's a conversation for later. So I think I'll start with the last one he dated, Lois Lane."

AN: That's it the chapters done. Like I said earlier this is a short chapter but I like how it turned out. I'll be going over season 1 of Smallville to see how many of it's villains I can use going forward though. Also just so you know the version of the Justice League that will eventually come won't be the version from Smallville. Also the harem won't be super huge because that's too many characters to manage. Kara also may or may not be a huge part of it, I'm still considering that. While in real life I don't condone those sort of relationships I know this is a work of fiction and I'm dealing with a couple of aliens as well, one of whom grew up on Krypton so she has a very different outlook on things than the human characters will. That said thanks for reading and please review. Till net time, LATER.
