Kim quietly crept through toward the forgotten gates leading up to the great castle atop the hill. She couldn't let anyone see her going up this way, because if they did, she knew they would suspect something was up. She had originally promised herself she would never do this, but she couldn't keep that promise. She had to see Edward again…even if only for one last time. She left her parents a note explaining she'd gone for a walk. It was…technically the truth…
She moved up the hill, out of sight of the street, and toward that magnificent, ruined mansion lay and her beloved lived within, forever producing snow for their little town. She came to the beautiful topiaries and flower gardens of the courtyard. Even the best gardens of the neighborhood were put to shame by this. Edward was such an artist, but no one could appreciate his work.
She went in through the front door, and climbed up the stairs, up toward the final level, where he lived in his corner. She reached the top of the stairs, and walked down the hall, slowly moving toward the door, and when she pushed it open, and she saw him. "Edward!" she cried. Her heart, which had been empty and shattered for so long, finally felt healed and whole again. On hearing this, Edward, who had been working on his latest ice sculpture, turned around in surprise, and his pale, sad face, lit up with joy at her presence.
They ran to each other and embraced. "Kim…" Edward sighed. "It's been so long…" Kim said, her voice a mixture of joy and sorrow. They stood there, no telling how long, just holding each other. They kissed, and they gazed into each others' eyes. Kim told Edward about her family, and what things had been like around town; Kevin's project about the moon landings where he made a space suit out of dryer duct and masking tape, Peg's new strategy to actually sell something, the family trip to the seaside; and Edward showed her the multiple works of art he had created since his forced exile in the castle; a model of the neighborhood, a monument to his creator, and countless likenesses of Kim. He had all but turned the castle into a gallery.
Then Kim came upon the old machine where Edward's Creator used to make cookies, and found the supplies to make it run again. They were enjoyed the sweets, Kim feeding Edward, and sat together for hours. Kim was sure she could never pull a stunt like this again, for the risk was too great. But at least she could see her sweet Edward one last time.
