Peregrin Took had the greatest life any hobbit could ask for. He married one of his greatest friends, the love of his life, Diamond of Long Cleeve. Peregrin always felt on top of the world when he was with her, and he felt as if nothing would ever knock him down. Everything in the world was just fine when Diamond was around.
"Pippin?" Diamond had asked one day.
Pippin was outside with Merry, smoking and laughing. Pippin turned in the direction of Diamond's voice, a huge grin on his lips when his eyes fell upon her. How was he so lucky to have a lass as wonderful as Diamond? He did not know.
"Yes, dear?" Pippin asked. "Is everything alright?"
"May I have a word with you?" Diamond asked seriously. "In private, please."
Pippin looked at Merry, who nodded in understanding. Pippin smiled at Merry, then got up from the ground and walked over to his wife. They walked inside of their home, and Pippin was beginning to feel very nervous indeed. What did she want to speak about? Was it something good, or something terrible? Pippin hoped nothing was wrong; he didn't know what he would do without his precious Diamond.
"Is everything alright?" Pippin asked again, his nerves feeling as if they would make him explode. "Please tell me everything is alright, my love."
"Everything is wonderful," Diamond responded with a smile. "I have some wonderful news, my beloved."
"Oooh, I like good news!" Pippin cried. "What is it? Are we going to move to another part of the Shire? Have you prepared me the greatest supper in the history of suppers? Have you-"
"Pippin," Diamond said, laughing a little at her husband's silliness. "Pippin, I found out just today, and I want you to promise me you will not get so excited that you faint."
"That only happened once!" Pippin retorted. "It was when you prepared me the most glorious second breakfast I have ever smelt or tasted!"
Diamond laughed at the memory, although it was a bit frightening at the time. Turning serious, she said, "Well, this has nothing to do with food, Pippin."
"What is it, then?" Pippin asked.
Diamond took a deep breath, then said, "Pippin, I have been late for nearly three weeks now."
"What do you mean?" Pippin asked. "You've been here most every day!"
"No," Diamond said, smiling. "Not that kind of late, Pippin."
"Then what kind of-" and that's when the realization of what Diamond was saying hit him. Tears flooded his eyes as he said, "You mean…you-you mean you're-"
"Yes," Diamond said, tears flooding her own eyes. "I am with child. Our first little baby, Pippin. You're going to be a father."
Happiness flooded Pippin's entire body as he and Diamond embraced. Months later, Diamond gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy. They named him Faramir, and Pippin had never felt happier in his entire life. When he held baby Faramir in his arms for the first time, a beautiful kind of joy flooded his heart, and Pippin Took was the happiest hobbit in the world right then. He had a beautiful wife and an amazing son, and they were the best things in the entire world to him.
