"Hush now, my dearest, the pain soon shall pass…"

The words, though sounding pure and calming, were nothing of the sort.

"I promised you a many things, and soon you shall have them…"

The pain in her chest grew with each breath that passed through her. Promises? What promises? She'd heard nothing but lies. Cold, hard lies, that had brought her nothing but agony and would continue to bring only that.

"It'll be over soon… all over… all too soon…"

She could find no word or thoughts to express as she stared up at him, her life slowly leaving her in crimson form. Would it matter if she said anything anyways? She could hardly imagine. With another painful, shaky breath she let her eyes drift close. It was over now, it was almost over. All that had happened… all that would follow. She'd be no part of it, she wouldn't have to be. At long last she could sleep. She only prayed that in sleep all that had happened could be forgotten.

"Are you sure you wish to die?

A voice called out from deep within the darkness, a dark thing, offering her comfort but showing her knives.

"You are still so young… and with so much to do…"

'There is nothing I wish for more than rest,' she thought with a conscious she didn't know she had.

"He has wronged you. Tore through your heart, left you bleeding on the floor… I can make you stronger. Save you. Avenge you."

'I shall soon be with the dead, what use do I have for strength or vengeance? All that I cared for is dead, and soon I shall be as well.'

"And there is nothing I can say to change your mind?"

'Nothing.'

"How disappointing. And here I was under the impression that most mothers would leap at the opportunity to save their sons…."

Her voice shook, 'Taiki…. Is dead…'

"And if I were to offer you a way to bring him back?"

A silence passed where all she could hear was the pounding of her heart, and all she could feel was a painful lump in her throat. 'I will do anything to get him back.'

The lips behind the mask pulled into a dark smile, "Just the answer I was looking for."

And with that her fate was sealed.
