Dean had called every contact in his book. He'd called every contact in Bobby's book. He had even gone through John's way outdated book and called every number in there. Nobody knew of a way to help Sam. Nobody. He trudged back to the hospital. He had failed his brother.

"There you are Mr. Smith," Sam's doctor said to him.

"How's Sam?"

"Well, that's why I was looking for you. We haven't been able to do anything for him. I think he has 2, maybe 3 hours left at most."

Dean just nodded. He had known it was coming. It wasn't the doctor's fault.

"Can I sit with him?" It wasn't really a question. If the doctor tried to stop him it would be the last thing he did.

"Of course."

He led Dean to the room and let him. "I'll leave you two alone."

Dean looked at Sam. He was laying on the bed just staring off into space. "Sammy?"

"Dean?" It came out in a whisper.

"Yeah. It's me, Sammy. He went over to the bed and lifted Sam up and slid behind him. He had held Sammy the first time he died, he would hold him this time, too. And he knew that this would be the last time. There would be no more second chances for them.

"Drown him out."

"What?" Dean asked. What did that mean?

"Talk to me. Tell me a story or something. Drown out Lucifer."

"Everything's going to be OK," Dean lied.

"That's not a story. Stories start 'Once upon a time.'"

"Once upon a time," Dean said, his voice cracking.

"Aww, he's going to cry," Lucifer mocked.

"Keep going," Sam said, ignoring Lucifer.

"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess," Dean began.

"Seriously, a princess story?" Sam asked.

At least that's what Dean thought he said. His words were beginning to slur. Dean bit back a sob. "You'll like this story. Trust me."

"Kay." Sam always trusted Dean. Besides the story didn't really matter. It just mattered that Dean was here, comforting him, and that the last thing that he heard would be Dean's voice. Not Lucifer's.

Dean was going to tell the story of Sam's greatest love. "The princess was beautiful and smart. Perfect in just about every way. Her name was Jessica. One day, she told the king and queen that she was going to go to the land of Stanford."

Even though she had died 7 years ago, Sam could still picture Jessica. It brought a sad smile to his face.

"When she arrived in the kingdom, she met a prince."

Sam shuddered a couple of times and slumped against Dean.

"Sam? Sammy?" Dean felt for a pulse. There wasn't one.

He closed his eyes and felt the tears come. It was official. He had lost everybody. His mom. His dad. Bobby. Ellen. Jo. Cas. And they might not be dead, but he'd lost Ben and Lisa as well as if they had been. And now Sam. The most crushing blow of all. He didn't know if he could go on. Ever since Bobby, he'd only kept going for Sam. That and because, as always, he felt an obligation to save the world. But, now, without Sam, he didn't even really feel like the world was worth saving.

The first time Sam had died, he couldn't live without him and had sold his soul for him. When Sam had gone to Hell, he looked for a way to bring him back. The first few weeks, he looked constantly. Lisa and Ben had gradually dragged him into other things. They weren't here, though.

Dean felt Sam's weight on him. He didn't want to let him go. When he let go, it would be real. Dean felt himself falling asleep. He didn't fight it. He hoped he never woke up.

He did, though. He felt something being removed from him. He opened his eyes and saw the doctor transferring Sam's body to a gurney.

"What the hell?" he yelled.

"Mr. Smith, I'm sorry, but you're brother's gone."

Every fiber of his being wanted to tackle the doctor and keep him from taking Sam away. But, he didn't do it. He knew that was just Sam's body. He would come back for it later and burn it. Then he would find Dick Roman. He would either kill him or die trying. He was glad that leviathans ate their victims. Because there was nobody left to burn his bones.
