A/N: After watch Goin Viral part 1 and basically dying from feels at the end, then seeing a post by jumblr-crumblr on Tumblr, I was kinda inspired. Warning, angst ahead.
Megan stared through the glass at where Kate sat, working diligently. It was late at night a month after the terrorist had attacked Philadelphia and Megan found herself regretting things that she'd never said before. Music was playing softly through the open door to her boss's office. Taking a deep breath, Megan prepared to say a few of those things.
She didn't knock, fearing the harsh sound would break the spell that had fallen over the room for this short moment in time.
"Kate?" her voice was barely a whisper, but Kate heard anyway and lifted her head to smile welcomingly. She stood, almost as if she knew why Megan was here.
"Yes Megan?"
Her nerves made it seem as though Kate's voice were coming from far away and she wrung her hands together, stepping further into the office. She opened her mouth, preparing to tell Kate everything, but what she said instead surprised her.
"We should dance."
Kate looked confused, tilting her head to the side as she looked at Megan curiously, almost as though she'd been waiting to hear something else. After a moment she nodded slightly.
"Okay."
Kate stepped around her desk gently, carpet completely muffling the sound of her heels on the floor. She was in front of Megan all of a sudden, the music creating an incredibly intimate atmosphere. Kate offered her hand, which Megan accepted, before assuming the role of a man. Megan placed her hand on Kate's shoulder in accordance, feeling the woman she had fallen in love with leading her slowly into a small dance. They said nothing, swaying gently and moving in a circle in her office, barely in time with the music.
"It's alright, Megan," Kate murmured with a gentle smile. That was all that it took for Megan's carefully constructed walls to crumble. She removed her hand from Kate's, looping her arms around the taller woman's neck and pulling her closer. Kate wrapped her arms around Megan's waist and held her as they swayed. Megan burrowed closer, hiding her face in the crook of Kate's neck. Then the tears came, sudden and hot and unexpected.
Instead of reacting with shock, Kate drew her closer comfortingly before pulling back to look into Megan's eyes and brushing the tears away lovingly with the pad of her thumb.
"I'm sorry," Megan murmured, feeling dizzy from the shock of tears that she had fought to hold back for so long.
"It's okay to cry," Kate whispered in response, cupping Megan's cheeks and looking at her seriously and with such love in her eyes that Megan physically hurt. "It's normal, after everything you've been through, to cry. It's okay…"
Kate started swaying again, wrapping her arms around Megan's waist and whispering the words over and over again.
It's okay.
The words washed over Megan like a lullaby until the sound was almost lost amongst the strings of the music. Her eyes closed and she inhaled the scent of Kate's perfume. Even with tears still falling down her cheeks this moment felt perfect and she wished that she could stay here, in Kate's arms, forever.
Still swaying gently to the music in her head, Megan felt the tears slipping down her face faster as she tightened her grip on Kate. She heard Kate hushing her, felt lips kissing away her tears. Voice cracking with emotion, Megan whispered the one thing she had wanted to say.
"Kate… I love you."
Lips brushed hers in a fleeting kiss and the music fell away. Megan opened her eyes, finding herself standing on her own in the middle of an office, the spell broken, staring at an empty desk that would never be the same without its rightful owner.
