Make a Wish

Katara cradled the old teapot in her hand. It was coated in dust, but there seemed to be faded characters etched into the side. How odd. Brow wrinkling, she rubbed away the dust—and almost dropped the teapot. Red smoke curled out of the spout, taking shape into a person (creature?) who was human from the waist up and swirly red mist below. He was also shirtless and had the most striking, flame-coloured eyes she had ever seen. His long black hair was pulled into a high ponytail. Gold bands encased his wrists, and a gold earring dangled from one ear.

He blinked. "You're a girl."

She blinked back. Hot. He was really hot. Much wow.

Hot Teapot Boy folded his arms across his chest, frowning at her like she was an equation he wasn't sure he wanted to solve. That helped her unstick her tongue.

"Who are you?" she blurted. "Wait, are you some kind of weird hallucination?"

Hot boys, after all, didn't pop out of teapots every day. She must have eaten something weird. Or she was going crazy.

"You're not hallucinating." He said it like he thought she was an idiot. "I'm the genie of this teapot, and you are now my master."

"M-master?"

He gestured at the teapot in her hands. "You summoned me. That makes you my master."

She peered at the battered teapot, her mind reeling. "I don't understand."

"If you're expecting a song and a dance routine to explain the finer details, it's not gonna happen. I leave that to the lamp genies."

"Huh?"

He rolled his eyes. "Look, it's simple. I'll grant you three wishes and then we can part ways."

"Wishes?" Her eyes widened. "You mean I can ask for anything?"

"Within reason. You can't wish for more wishes, bring anyone back from the dead, or force someone to fall in love with you."

"Huh …" She tapped her chin.

His scowl twitched back into place. "Please tell me you're not an indecisive person."

"I'm not. I'm just thinking. It's not every day a hot teapot genie offers to grant me three wishes."

Colour dusted his cheeks. "Excuse me?"

She blinked, and her face flamed as she realised what she said. "I-I mean …" There are no words that can salvage this. He now knows she thinks he's attractive. How awkward.

His blush darkened and he averted his face. "Just hurry up and make your first wish," he grumbled.

Oh no. He looked super cute when he was flustered. So grumpy and embarrassed. Then again, it was nice to know the hot teapot boy could be awkward as well. Gave her a bit of confidence. She even dared to step closer and smile.

"How about we introduce ourselves first?" she suggested. "I can't keep calling you Hot Teapot Boy, after all."

He shot her a blushing glare. She raised her eyebrows as if to ask what he was waiting for.

"Zuko," he said grudgingly. "My name is Zuko."

She held out her hand. "Katara."

He stared at her hand before he clasped it in a firm shake.

"Fine," he said. "We know each other's names. Are you gonna make a wish now or not?"

"Hey, don't rush me. I have to think about this more, especially since I only get three."

He sighed. "I knew it. You're an indecisive one."

It's sad how tempted I am to continue this. Crackfics, why must you call to me so?
