John Watson couldn't breathe.

For a few seconds he panicked, but the panic was dismissed by the knowledge that if he stopped for a moment and inhaled, he'd be okay. So he did exactly that.

He forced himself to stop crying and took a deep, almost painful breath. Then he turned his head and saw the door to his room, and the body-shaking sobs started all over again.
