Author's Note: A drabble written as part of the 30 Day Pokespe Challenge; I'm trying to write a little something for every day of it. Hopefully you enjoy this and the ones that follow!

Shiver

It's a lonely beach that she walks on. The only other inhabitant sobs into his hands and pushes her away. She stays anyway, silent.

You shouldn't be here, he is saying. You should go back to Green, to the others, to the people who are actually strong enough to keep fighting. She can taste his bitterness like coffee, black and piping hot, on her tongue.

But it doesn't scald her. She knows what it's like to be boiled alive.

She chooses her words carefully. "I'm here to thank you," she tells him. "Thank you, Red."

For the first time, he turns and meets her eyes. "For what?" he spits. He's furious, but not at Blue. "I failed you. I failed Green and my Pokemon and Pika…" The yellow Pokemon shivers on the ground, and Red picks him up, wraps his vest around him. Shivers himself. She sits down and puts an arm over his shoulder.

He and her brother are not so different.

"You wanted to help me. You tried to help me, too. You and Green. You're both such good people, I don't know what the world would be like without people like you…"

Her words are slipping up. She's not as good at this as she thought. He goes back to staring off into space, but she won't give up yet. She presses her head into his shoulder, then tentatively onto his chest. Closes her eyes. Feels the heartbeat and the wind.

He still shivers, but now they both shiver together.
