Every child has legacy left upon them by their parents. It can be a big legacy or it can be a small legacy. It can be a legacy that has seeped down for generations or it can be that could be quickly forgotten. Regardless, every child has a legacy and it is up to them if they want to live up to it. The Weasleys did. So did the Longbottoms. And the Scamanders. Teddy Lupin wanted to also. So did Harry Potter's sons. His daughter didn't want to though and neither did I.

My name is Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy. Yes that's right. Malfoy. I also have legacy to live up to and I have tried my hardest not to be a part of it, which included getting sorted into Gryffindor. I wonder if that is what attracted me to Lily.

We first met when I was just about to begin third year and she was starting Hogwarts. She didn't want her parents legacy either, though she had bigger shoes to fill as she was the youngest in her family, and frankly, there wasn't much that she could do that someone hadn't done before. But just because there wasn't much didn't mean there wasn't something. And Lily found that something and decided to go with it. She found what I found. Just get Sorted into another House. Not a safe one like Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Well, Hufflepuff wouldn't have been all that safe for me, but Ravenclaw would have been fine. Both would have been fine for her. She didn't have to be in the ultimate House. She needed to be in Slytherin like I needed to be in Gryffindor. To be different. To be noticed. To be talked about, even if it wasn't in a good way.

That was Lily, though. She didn't seek out the spotlight, but it seem to find her the most. She didn't care either. One time, during her fifth year and my seventh, I asked her what she thought about it, she just laughed and said that it made her laugh to see what the newspapers said about her. The most amazing thing to me was not that she even said that, but the fact that she honestly meant it. That it honestly didn't matter to her. I think that was the moment I started falling in love with her. So I what I did in that moment I don't regret. I kissed her and she kissed me back.

Legacy can follow you around and put pressure on everything you do. It can make you constantly second guess yourself. It'll make you do what other people want you to do, what they'll expect you to do. But if you choose to forget it, to leave it in the dust, the freedom you'll gain will be worth it all.

Even if your kids will hate you for the legacy you'll give them.
