Ch 17 Pt 1 Lt. Surge Vs. Ash

Announcer Guy Speaking
After spending the night at the Center Ash and Ken went out to face Lt. Surge.
Ash and Ken walked into the Gym and walked up to the receptionist.
"Hello and welcome to the Vermilion City Gym, who's here to challenge Lt. Surge?" The receptionist asked.
"That would be me Sir." Ash said proudly
"Great enthusiasm and if you would just go straight down that hall you'll come to a door enter it and keep going until you come to an elevator. Lt. Surge likes to do his battles in front of a crowd, it usually gets the trainers into the battle more." He finished.
"How is there a crowed all ready?"
"Lt. Surge likes to also put on shows with his Pokemon, this way he usually stays busy while waiting for a new challenger. Also just a heads up a few days ago he had a challenge from another young man and he is still on his toes from that fight. So I suggest that you be on yours." He finished. Ash and Ken looked at each other and one name came to mind, Gary. They just chose not to voice anything.
"Good luck Ash and give us a great show." Ken waved as Ash went on his way.
"And if you could just go through the door right behind this desk you'll be able to get to the arena and the match should start shortly."
A few moments later
Ken had his camera ready for the match and on one side of the arena Lt. Surge came up from the floor below. This got a huge reaction from the crowd and not too long after Ash came up on stage, this also got a huge reaction out of the crowd.
"I hope you'll be able to give me more of a challenge then the last one, he managed to beat me but it was only barley that he was able to do it." Surge pronounced. "My Pokemon helped me through the war they won't be easy to beat."
"War? I'll ask about that later for now lets get this going" Ash thought. "I hope you won't be to upset when I wipe the floor with your Pokemon." The ref then came on the stage to announce the rules for the match.
"This will be a 5 on 6 Pokemon battle, only the challenger is aloud to switch Pokemon. The first to have all of there Pokemon defeated looses the match. Are both contestants ready to battle?" With a nod from both sides the ref gave the signal. "Let the round begin!"
Surge called out his Electabuzz first while Ash called out his Arbok.
"Arbok use Earthquake" This had the desired effect and Electabuzz promptly fainted. This shocked Surge and the crowed because of Gary no one really took Ash seriously.
"I wasn't expecting that well we'll just have to do better than that. Lest go Magneton!"
"Arbok come back lest go Arcanine, use Flamethrower!"
"Magneton use Thunderbolt." This time Magneton was faster than Arcanine but the attack didn't do much to harm him but Arcanine's Flamethrower didn't kill the Magneton thanks to sturdy.
"Magneton use Thunder Wave."
"Flamethrower." The Thunder Wave had the desired effect but Magneton fainted.
"Lets go Electrode!"
"Come back Arcanine. Lets go Arbok, Earthquake one more time!" During the fight the crowed was going crazy with such a great match, Ken had gotten many great pictures from this match.
"Electrode use Thunder Wave." Again this electric type was faster and inflicted the Thunder Wave, luckily this didn't stop Arbok from using her Earthquake.
"Lets go Electrode!" Both Arbok and Ash made a face and thought at the same time 'again' and luckily for Ash that Arbok had the ability Shed Skin this promptly got rid of the Thunder Wave effect. (imagine a giant snake shedding it's skin).
"Electrode use Thunderbolt."
"Use Earthquake!" Unfortunately Arbok was faster and Electrode fainted.
"I guess its up to my last Pokemon, lest go Raichu!"
"Lets end this Earthquake"
"Thunder!" Two things happened that caught Ash off guard as well as everyone else. Raichu's Thunder hit and he didn't die from the Earthquake. Arbok ended up surviving but with only a little bit of HP left.
"Shit!"
"Use Thunderbolt and finish this."
"I know she won't survive this, come back Arbok lets go Pikachu."
The Thunderbolt hit Pikachu but it did nothing for he had Volt Absorb.
"What!" Surge shouted.
"Now Pikachu use Rain Dance and finish this off with a Thunder!"
"Use Slam." The Slam mad contact after Pikachu used Rain Dance and the Thunder ended the match. The crowd was silent but then everyone bursted into cheers and shouts for the winner. everyone left the stage and the audience disbanded for the day
"That was a pretty impressive fight, heres your new badge as well as two tickets to ride the SS Ann. It's a training cruise boat and it will take you to an a Pokemon Reserve if you wish to see it. The island is populated by every single type of Pokemon that belongs to this region. You should check it out you may see some Pokemon you've never seen before. There is also a under water tour and the high light of the preserve is that part of the island has been dedicated to extinct Pokemon types that have been brought back to life. Also there is one main rule No catching any of the Pokemon in the Reserve location."
"That sounds awesome, just imagine the pictures that I could get." Ken started imagining.
"I think we've lost him, thanks for the tickets well go and check it out thanks. I also have a question on what you said earlier about a war. What war?"
"About 25 years ago there was a war between the East and West of this region. The War started with people wanting control over who was going to be leaders of the towns. Basically the job of gym leader, back then it was more control over the city. Eventually the war ended but not after many casualties for both Pokemon and people. A truce was made and it was decided that the town would be run by a mayor and the concept for gyms changed to what they are today."
"Thats pretty intense, hopefully nothing like that ever happens again." Ash commented.
With that Ash dragged Ken to the harbor as he was still in lala-land. They got a room together and decided to chill out for now since it was getting late. The Captain told them that they wouldn't make it to the island until the day after tomorrow. So the game plan was to relax for the rest of the day and then tomorrow go out and battle anyone who wanted a battle.
With Ash's third badge gained it looks like another detour, stay tuned for the next chapter

Such a late update, sorry but I've finally become motivated again for typing this story. I will finish it but I keep writing out chapters that takes Ash and Ken so far off the path of Gym battles that this is probably going to turn into a 30 chapter story. With this just being 1 in many a series. CURSE MY IMAGINATION. Thanks
