A/N - I wrote these poems around 4 years ago, the summer after grade 8. I just found them now and thought I might as well post them. So here they are...
Memories of a Hero
I watched my best friend Johnny die
I watched in disbelief, trying my best not to cry
His final words to me, stuck in my head
Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold he said
He was only sixteen years old, still just a kid
He didn't deserve to die, not after all that he did
He didn't want to die, I told him he would be okay, I lied
But then I picked up Gone with the Wind, and found a note inside
He told me the kids had more to live for, and explained the poem I read
He asked me to get Dally to watch a sunset, unfortunately he was also dead
But, finally I realized. He's in a better place and won't be hurt anymore
He's safe up in the clouds, where he won't be hit, bruised or sore
I sit here in the lot, right where me and him laid
And I know I'll always remember my best friend, Johnny Cade
