CHP 62: Alluka Zoldyck

A woman hummed a song as she stood at her favorite spot. Her scarlet hair fluttered in the wind. A three-year-old silver haired girl ran up to her.

"Kaa-chan~!" she giggled.

The woman turned to look at the girl. She welcomed the girl into her arms, hugging her dearly. The girl made herself comfortable.

"How was your trip, my dear?" the woman asked.

"It was fine," a voice was heard.

She looked up to see her husband and her son. They were both smiling at her. She nodded as a greeting. The husband walked up to her, kissed her forehead and caressed the little girl's head at the same time.

"Everything went well. Now the family business is Uncle Illumi's," the son explained.

"Sora did a great job negotiating with all of them. His paperwork is of a professional secretary," the husband remarked.

"I learned from the best," Sora shrugged.

"How are you holding up, Mana?" the husband asked his beloved wife.

Mana nodded to his question. She looked up to the sky. Sora and Killua looked at each other before turning to look at her. Sakura touched her mother's cheek, startling the woman. Mana rubbed her nose on her daughter's. Sakura giggled.

"The orphanage is doing great thanks to you. More children are being adopted and more orphans have a place to live," Mana said to her husband.

"Yeah, this place looks like resort now," Sora remarked.

It was true. The whole area was developed. The orphanage had more buildings and was separated based on year. Tear was able to hire more help around the place. The children's education was not neglected because Killua had hired private tutors to come teach them occasionally.

"I did my best to see my wife's smile," Killua said, winking at Mana.

The woman blushed, avoiding eye contact with her husband. Sora chuckled at the sight.

"Sakura, it's bath time for you~!" Tear called out from the backdoor of the orphanage.

"Coming!" Sakura replied.

She jumped onto the ground. Sora escorted her to where Tear was waiting. The parents watched them lovingly.

"Sakura has grown pretty well…" Killua remarked.

Nodding, Mana replied, "Well, she has a lot of friends here."

"I see…" the husband replied.

"How are things at the Zoldyck's?" she asked.

Killua smiled and replied, "Everything is good. Mother is still the same, but everyone else asked about you…"

The wife nodded to his words. There was a brief silence in the air. Mana played with her hands. Killua turned to her with a questioned look. She looked down at her hands.

"Killua…if it weren't for…" Mana's words were interrupted.

Killua pulled her into his arms. "I know… I'm sure she's happy seeing how happy you are."

Holding in her tears, Mana nodded to her husband. She held his arms as she trembled in fear and sadness. He kissed her forehead.

Sakura ran into her bedroom with Sora behind her. She giggled, jumping onto her bed. Her brother sat at the edge. She picked a book to read from the shelf over the headboard of her bed.

"So what shall we read tonight?" Sora asked.

Sakura looked around and said, "Where is Kaa-chan?"

The brother looked over to the door. He sighed. Sakura stared at him with her wide eyes. Sora forced a smile.

"I think she's tired, so I'll read for you, okay?" he said.

Sakura puffed her cheeks. "Okie…" she mumbled.

Sora crossed his legs and made himself comfortable on her bed. He started to read her chosen story. Mana was eavesdropping outside of her room. Killua tapped her shoulder, startling her. He gestured her to head to follow him. They reached their own bedroom. Killua was at the balcony, looking up at the sky.

"Is everything alright?" Mana asked, concerned.

"Aniki called in for a family meeting. He misses you," Killua said.

"O-Oh…I see. When is it?" she asked.

Her husband said, "Next week."

Nodding once, she said, "Okay. I don't think it's bad."

Her husband pulled her into his arms. He kissed her head, sighing. Mana wrapped her arms around his torso.

"We can visit her too…" she whispered.

"Yeah…" he replied in a low voice.

Sora knocked on their door, but before he could do anything else, Sakura barged in.

"Kaa-chan!" she called, running up to her mother.

Mana smiled, picking her up. "What seems to be the problem?"

"She wants to sleep with you," Sora explained.

Killua looked at his son. The son shrugged and shook his head. Mana giggled. She touched her daughter's nose with hers.

"Sure~ you can sleep with me, but where would Tou-chan sleep if you take his space on the bed?" she joked.

"Awww…Sakura wants Kaa-chan," the girl grabbed her mother's arms tightly.

Mana gazed at her husband. He nodded to her, walking over to Sora.

"I'll sleep with Sora then," he offered.

"Thank you," Mana said with a smile.

Killua smiled. "I will see you at breakfast tomorrow."

Mana nodded. Sakura jumped down, walking over to her father. She pulled at his pants to get his attention. Killua squatted down. Sakura gave him a peck on the nose.

"Thankchoo, Tou-chan," she chirped.

"You're welcome, pumpkin," Killua cooed.

He left with Sora. Sakura climbed onto bed on her own, without Mana's help. Mana lied beside her. She watched as her daughter made herself comfortable.

"Okay to sleep now?" she asked.

Sakura nodded rapidly. "Yes!"

She snuggled closer as Mana started to sing a lullaby for her.

Meanwhile, Sora and Killua were having their own conversation about Mana. The boy was reluctant to let his mother go to the Zoldyck Estate. He was aware of how much Kikyo hates Mana.

"It's family gathering. Everyone will be there to back her up," Killua reassured him.

"I'm not convinced," Sora replied.

"I will be there with her too," Killua insisted.

"I just… I'm scared that she will…you know," the boy muttered.

"She won't. I won't let her. We're not going to let her," the father said.

Killua held his son's shoulders and looked into his eyes. They nodded to each other.

Killua helped his wife out of the car. They had arrived at the Zoldyck Estate. Mana looked up at the gigantic gates. She reminisced on her younger days, her lips forming a smile. Zebro rushed to meet them. He pulled his granddaughter into a long hug. Mana returned the hug.

"I missed you so much, too much…" Zebro held in his tears.

"Same here…" Mana whispered.

Sakura blinked at the old man who was hugging her mother. She was curious to know who he was. Sora smiled.

"This is Kaa-san's grandfather," he said to her.

"Ohhh…" Sakura nodded, trying to understand.

Zebro turned to look at the little girl. He squatted down to match her height. Sakura stared into his eyes, still full of curiosity. He picked the girl up and cheered.

"So this is Sakura? Last time we weren't able to meet," he said.

Killua nodded. "Yeah, you were busy at the time," he said.

"Well, now I am here. Please, have dinner with me?" Zebro asked.

Turning to look at Mana, Killua replied, "Well…we won't have to be at the mansion until tomorrow so, why not?"

Mana nodded. "I missed cooking with you, Grandpa," she smiled.

Zebro nodded. He gestured them to follow him. His old wooden cabin was upgraded to a sturdier cabin with more rooms. He showed Mana and Killua their room, and also a room each for their children. Then, Mana went to the kitchen to help him prepare dinner. Killua took Sora and Sakura to see Mike.

"So how are things with you, my dear?" he asked.

"I'm fine. I think I am happy with Killua…" Mana muttered.

Zebro smiled at the woman and said, "But?"

Glancing up at her grandfather, she replied, "But, I feel somewhat guilty…"

"She wouldn't help if she was not convinced that you could make Killua happy," Zebro assured her.

"I know but…she…" Mana held her tears.

Zebro pulled her into a hug. He told her to wash her face. They started cooking once Mana's cries subsided. Two hours later, Killua, Sora and Sakura were already at the dining table. Mana served them the food they had cooked. She took a seat beside her husband. Seaquant sat beside Sora.

"No night duty?" Mana asked.

"After dinner…or should I say supper?" the old man replied.

"Sorry it's a little late. We had a heart-to-heart session just now…" Zebro explained.

Mana nodded. Killua pulled her and kissed her forehead. She smiled as a sign she was fine. They started to eat their food and shared their stories. Sora told them about his Nen training. Sakura focused on eating. Mana was making sure she didn't spill anything.

After dinner, Sora helped Zebro with the dishes. Mana decided to get some fresh air. Killua followed her.

"You look pale," he said.

"I'm just a little exhausted," she replied.

Killua let her rest her head on his shoulder. He rubbed her shoulder as she did. She heaved a sigh.

"I'm scared to see them…" she whispered.

"They're okay. I promise you…" he whispered back.

"Thank you, Killua…" she replied.

Killua, Mana, Sora and Sakura stepped into the dining hall together. All eyes were on them. Kikyo made an irritated face. Milluki and Kalluto were neutral. Illumi, however, smiled and walked up to Mana. The rest of the Zoldycks watched as the eldest son kissed the back of Mana's hand. The woman was a bit surprised.

"It's good to see you're up on your feet," he said.

Mana smiled and nodded. Silva and Killua locked eyes with each other. The father gestured him to join in their conversation. Killua excused himself, leaving his wife and his children as he sat next to his father.

"I shall be your escort tonight," Illumi said to the three.

"And I shall serve you," a familiar voice was heard.

Mana turned around to see a grown up Canary behind her. She was wearing her butler uniform just like always. She was now the head butler, taking over after Gotoh.

"It's great to see you again, Mana-sama," she said.

"I'm glad you're doing fine without Gotoh-san," Mana nodded to her.

Sora picked Sakura up and they followed the adults to the dining table. They sat down. Canary served them their food and listened to their stories. Kikyo was against everything and everyone. She hated how kind everyone was treating Mana, so she sat up.

"I'll be excusing myself early," she said and then, exited the hall.

Mana felt a bit uneasy. Kalluto approached her.

"Don't mind my mother. She is just feeling a bit under the weather," Kalluto said.

She bowed and left too. Milluki got up and went after his mother. Illumi shook his head at their behavior.

"I am truly sorry for that," he said to Mana.

"I shouldn't be here," Mana spoke up.

She got up to excuse herself but suddenly, a sting hit her head. Before she knew it, she fell unconscious onto the floor.

"Mana!" Killua called out.

He rushed to her side, picking her up into his arms. Sora observed her face and checked her vitals.

"Everything seems fine," he reassured his father.

"I'll get the care ready," Canary said.

They took her to the hospital that very night. Sora informed Zebro of Mana's condition so the old man followed them too.

Slowly, she opened her eyes. Mana could see her husband, her son and her daughter. Sakura hugged her dearly.

"Kaa-chan!" she bawled.

"I'm glad you're awake," Killua said.

"What happened?" Mana asked.

Killua smiled. "You passed out last night. I had the doctor checked you."

"And?" she asked.

"Kaa-san, you're pregnant," Sora exclaimed.

Mana was speechless. All eyes were on her. She looked down, trying to hold in her tears. She clenched her fists. Killua and Sora looked at each other. She started sobbing, confusing Sakura.

"I'm glad…" she muttered.

Killua went to meet the doctor. Mana was discharged that very evening. Canary picked them up and drove them back to the estate. Illumi welcomed them. He was excited when he heard the news. They celebrated, but of course, Kikyo was not happy to hear it.

"Pregnant again? My God you're such a prostitute!" she shouted.

All eyes turned to look at her. Zeno was beyond angry. Killua had the scariest glare. Sora clenched his fists, furious. Mana gave out a small smile, exhausted of all the insults.

"Kikyo! Mind your words!" Silva warned her.

"Call her whatever you want, I will still love her forever and always," Killua growled.

"Killua…" Mana held his arm.

The husband turned to his wife. She shook her head slowly. His anger subsided. Sora looked at his mother full of concerns.

"Kikyo-sama, I accept everything you said about me and what you thought of me. Thank you for giving birth to a man named Killua. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me," she said, silencing every living being in the room.

She exited the hall without a word. Killua turned to his father who nodded to him. Sora picked Sakura up into his arms and ran after his mother.

Mana stood in front of a large vault, the vault where she first met Killua's younger sister. Her lips curved into a small smile.

"Hey…it has been awhile. I'm doing great thanks to you…" her voice cracked.

Killua placed a hand on her shoulder, startling her. He smiled at his wife. He looked at the vault as well.

"Everyone misses you. Sakura has been asking about you, who saved Mana's life…" he muttered.

Mana touched the vault and whispered, "I am forever in debt to you…"

Killua left his wife alone for her to grief. He went to see his father and grandfather. They apologized for Kikyo's behavior.

"Have you reached a decision?" Silva asked.

"Mana needs a more positive environment to live a better life. We will never return to this household anymore, father. I can't bear it…" Killua said.

Nodding, Zeno replied, "I understand. We shall visit you if we want to see her and your children."

Silva placed his hands on Killua's shoulders. Their eyes met for mere seconds before Silva pulled his son into a hug, freezing him on the spot.

"Be safe, my son. I love you," he whispered.

Killua nodded to his father. He went back to his room. Mana was sitting on the bed as if waiting for him to return.

"We're going now," he said to her.

"Are you sure?" she asked.

He nodded. "I don't want you to suffer," he muttered.

He helped Mana pack her belongings. Canary readied the car for the family. She drove them to the train station. Instead of going back to the orphanage, they decided to visit Anne and Kurogane. Anne was happy to see her grandchildren.

"It has been a long time since you last visited," Anne said.

"We've been busy with the renovations and all," Killua explained.

"Well do stay longer this time," Anne insisted.

"We might take you up on the offer...since Mana's pregnant again," Killua said.

Anne was delighted to hear the news. She invited them into the house to continue talking. Sora looked around for his uncle. He found the young man training alone in the backyard.

"Mind if I join you?" he asked.

"Please, do," he replied.

Sora got into his fighting stance, took a deep breath and charged at his uncle. The uncle was ready to parry his attacks. Killua came to watch with Sakura in his arms. Sora was smiling as he aimed another kick at his uncle who easily dodged it.

Meanwhile, Mana followed Anne to the kitchen. They started to prepare dinner for the whole household. The maids lent a hand too.

"So, how are you holding up?" Anne asked.

"I'm good. Everything's well. I am really glad for what had happened…" Mana replied with a smile.

Anne smiled too. "Good to hear…" she muttered.

Mana nodded to her mother. She started to cut the veggies after that.

Mana grabbed the broom at the corner of the living room. She started sweeping the floor while humming her favourite tune. A maid rushed up to her looking all panicky.

"Mana-sama, please let me assist you with that," she said.

"Aww... It's too boring just sitting around the house," Mana pouted.

"That baby is gonna pop out anytime soon and you're thinking about house chores?" Kurogane sighed, shaking his head.

Mana gave in. She handed the broom to the maid beside her. She took a seat on the sofa. Kurogane handed her a glass of milk. She took a sip, heaving a sigh.

"Nii-san sure is taking his time shopping," her brother remarked.

Nodding, she replied, "He sure is, but usually it's Sakura's fault. That girl loves dragging him to the book shop."

They both laughed. Suddenly, the doorbell was heard. Kurogane went to open it. It was Gon and his family along with Kurapika and Leorio.

"What are you guys doing here?" Mana asked full of surprise.

"We decided to give you a surprise visit. It was Killua's idea," Cornelia said.

Gon's two daughters ran into the house looking for toys to play with. Cornelia apologized for their behaviour. Gray rushed to get them. Kurogane invited them into the house. Mana went to the kitchen to prepare some drinks. Cornelia decided to tag along.

"I'm glad to see you're up on your feet," she said.

"Thanks to Killua," Mana replied with a smile.

Cornelia grabbed the tray full of cups and saucers. Mana picked up the teapot full of milk tea. They went back to the living room where everyone else was sitting. Mana served the tea she made.

"I'm home…" Killua announced.

He was surprised to see his guests arriving before him. He apologized. Sakura ran to play with Gon's daughters. Sora and Gray went to the backyard for some light training with Kurogane as their instructor. The adults are left to talk.

"I heard you're expecting a baby," Kurapika said.

"Yes, anytime soon…" Killua said, rubbing his wife's belly.

Leorio looked at the two. "I can see how at peace you two are."

"How are you guys?" Mana asked.

"We've been around the world again. Gray's a Hunter too now, apparently," Cornelia said.

"Cornelia's books are a hit everywhere too," Gon added.

"I'm doing fine. My career as a doctor turned out to be very interesting. I have a few patients with similar cases as yours, Mana," Leorio said, "But curable…I mean, the curable type."

"He even opened his own class for Nen," Kurapika chimed in.

"That was supposed to be a secret!" Leorio nudged him.

The whole gang laughed. Mana turned to Kurapika.

"And how about you, Kurapika?" she asked.

Kurapika heaved a sigh and replied, "I'm doing great too. I've been finding more and more of my clans' eyes. I've had a funeral for them just a few days ago. I'm still a bodyguard and I can see it's fulfilling to be one."

Mana nodded to all of them. Her eyes welled up with tears, touched that they actually came to visit her. She was very glad to have such good friends.

"Please, do stay for dinner or like, until my due date," she invited them.

"If it doesn't trouble you," Cornelia said.

"Not at all," Killua insisted, smiling, "It'll make Mana happy.

Killua walked back and forth in the hallway. He looked anxious. Gon shook his head at his best friend's behavior. Kurapika reached to grab Killua's shoulder.

"She'll be fine. She's done this twice. Have faith," he assured him.

Killua looked at Kurapika before nodding. The nurse opened the door and called for him. Killua allowed his friends to join him inside. Mana was on the bed, all sweaty, trying to catch her breath. Killua rushed up to her. He kissed her forehead and pulled her into his arms.

"Mr and Mrs Zoldyck," the nurse called.

She handed Mana the newborn baby. The baby had pale skin and black hair, nothing like her parents. Mana kissed her newborn's forehead.

She said to her audience, "Her name will be Alluka, to honor your sister. I owe her this life."

Killua was astounded. "Are you sure?" he asked.

Nodding, Mana replied, "Yes, my precious little Alluka. You shall be loved just like we love each other, how we love your brother and your sister. I promise."

All eyes were on the new addition to the family. Sakura cheered, happy that she got a little sister. Cornelia and Gon congratulated the parents. Kurapika patted Killua's back a few times.

"Job well done, Mana," Leorio said.

"She looks so cute," Cornelia cooed.

"She is our daughter after all~" Killua chirped.

The gang laughed. Mana gazed at her newborn lovingly. Alluka smiled in her sleep, holding Mana's finger as she did.
