Prologue

Lily Evans met the eyes of her boyfriend, James Potter and smiled. He sat across the table from her, sending a flirtatious wink in her direction and then waved with his right hand. Lily laughed and James's smile grew, causing him to jump in his seat and wave even more frantically until his best mate slapped him upside the head and he retaliated with a well aimed hit to Sirius Black's rib cage. Sirius choked on the pumpkin juice that he had been sipping and send the remaining liquid that had taken residence in his mouth all across the table. James laughed and him and the boy on Sirius's other side, Remus Lupin, moved away from Sirius as far as they could without running into any of the other students. Lily was still laughing when the owls swooped in, dropping letters to their respective owners and finally an owl swooped over her own head, dropping a small scroll almost directly over her pumpkin juice. Lily reached out and grabbed the juice with her left hand and managed to catch the scroll with her right, letting a small sigh of relief when she was able to set the goblet of juice down and began to unwind the scroll.

Dear Miss Evans,

I have been notified that you are dating the certain likes of James Potter, whom is from a family that I have deemed respectful enough in blood. I feel very strongly that we shouldn't, mustn't, taint anymore pure blood with the likes of yours, so I have found that we truly only have three options. Our first option, my favorite in all reason, is that you yourself join me, therefore rising upwards from filth. Our second option is that you end all relations with Mr. Potter immediately, and do trust that I will know if this deed has been done. Our third and final option is that I kill Mr. Potter effectively and end the precious Potter line before it can become tainted.I urge you to choose wisely.

Sincerely,

The Respectable Lord Voldemort

Lily's shaky hands were forced to roll up the scroll. The magnitude of what she had just read hit her like a train and her blood drained from her face. Her clammy hands slid the scroll into her pocket as she rose from her seat and swept out of the Grand Hall, tears pouring down her cheeks of what she had to do.

She only had one option that she could use to save her boyfriend.
