Chapter 11: Our Happy Ending

Dib's P.O.V.

One Week Later

"When is he going to be finished?" I asked myself while pacing in the living room.

This morning around one, Zim went into labor. It made me jumpy and I practically ran around like a chicken with its head cut off until Gaz came in and smacked me before Taking Zim to the lab and helping him give birth. All of this was too exciting and it made today the ending to a long stressful week.

After we got back to the lab from blowing up my father's space lab, I carried Zim to the lab and told the computer to help him. When we got back, a healing tube was ready for Zim. I placed him inside, kissed him and his stomach goodbye and allowed the computer to handle it from there. Every day, I would visit him and stay with him throughout the night. When I wasn't there, Gaz, Gir, and Minimoose would be there to watch over him instead.

After Zim was taken care of, I went to the media and told the world that my father's lab was blown up and that he died along with it. I told them that one of the new interns mixed too many chemicals together and caused a catastrophic explosion that killed my father and everyone on board. No one questioned it or had much to say. We had a memorial for them, but Gaz and I didn't cry. We had long lost our father before that day. As next in line and because of his will, I took over everything my father ever owned. But, I didn't keep it. I was never interested in what my father was studying nor did I feel like the world needed to know. So, I passed it along to one of his remaining assistance. I told them to get rid of everything my father was currently working on and told them to start fresh. They were more than willing to do so. I even heard that the assistant I handed that responsibility to was busy working on a cure for all diseases.

As for the Swollen Eyeballs, I tried contacting Dark Booty, but I kept getting an error message. That caused me to worry for Zim and our son's safety. Then, just the other day, I received a letter in the mail from Dark Booty saying that my resignation will remain in effect and that I have nothing to worry about. He promise to take my secret to the grave if I promise to send him a picture of my new son and Zim. It was a great relief to know that Zim and I would live in peace without anyone bothering us.

As for Gaz, she moved in with us. She is still a minor and could not live on her own, so I had her move into the base with Zim, Gir, Minimoose, and me. At first she protested, but she eventually came around. The only reason she protested was because she thought that there wasn't going to be enough money for me to support all of them. But, Dad left all of the money he ever earned to us. That was the only thing I have to thank him for. And, thanks to all of the money he managed to earn, we're all pretty much set for life. That doesn't mean that we're going to spend all of it, but that also doesn't mean that we're going to hold be cheap either, especially for our son. Everything happened quickly and caused this week to be incredibly busy, but it was all worth it to have my first son come into this world.

So here I am, waiting for Gaz to come up and tell me that Zim is alright and that my son was successfully born. I just wish that it didn't take so long. I have been pacing since he went into labor at one in the morning. It is not ten at night and still no word. To keep myself sane, I started making jokes about how I'm going to create a hole in the floor with all of my pacing.

"Hey, Dib."

I turned my head to see Gaz standing on the elevator platform. I ran over to her and gripped her shoulders. "Are they~"

"Zim is resting on the bed downstairs and your son is doing just fine." She answered. I almost wanted to cry at hearing those words. "Come on. Let's go see them." I nodded before stepping onto the platform too.

I could barely hold in my excitement as the platform descended. Once it finally stopped, I stepped off and moved carefully over to where Zim is resting. I barely touched him when I saw him opening his eyes.

"Hey." I called out.

"Hi." He answered back.

"How are you?" I asked while moving to sit on the edge of the bed.

"In some pain, but I'll be fine. Did you see him yet?" I shook my head. "He's in that tube over there. He looks just like you." He smiled. "Computer. How is the status of our son?"

"He is doing excellent and is ready to be removed from his tube." The computer answered.

"I'll get him. You guys stay here." Gaz said.

We watched as she moved towards the computer and pressed some buttons before moving behind a curtain. I held his hand and kissed his lips in appreciation for everything he's done.

"I love you." I whispered as I looked into his eyes.

"I love you too." He said back.

"Here you go." Gaz said after she emerged with our son.

I took him from her. He was wrapped in a blue blanket. He was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. He had my skin complexion, a small truffle of black hair on his head, two black antennas sticking out of his head, five sharp fingers and toes, and a small pak on his back. He was perfect.

I felt a happy tear run down my cheek while holding my first son. "You're right. He does look like me."

I used one of my fingers to touch his cheek, causing him to stir. He yawn cutely before opening his eyes. I gasped when I saw that they were reddish color. Almost like Zim's except they were just a bit lighter.

"Is that his natural eye color?" I asked.

"Yes. When an Irken, hybrid or not, is born, whatever eye color they are born with will be their natural eye color." Zim answered tiredly.

I nodded in understanding before looking back at him. "Did you name him yet?"

"No, I wanted to leave that up to you." Zim replied.

I never took my eyes off of him as I ran thousands of names through my head. After a moment, I finally decided on a suiting name for him.

"Dillon." I said suddenly.

"Dillon, huh?" Zim moved a little closer to run his fingers gently along our son's cheeks with a soft smile. "I like it. Hello, Dillon Membrane."

I leaned further on the bed while holding Dillon in my arms and having Zim lean against me. This moment, was one of the proudest and happiest moments in my life. Nothing would ever take this from me. I'd make sure of that. Zim, Gir, Minimoose, Gaz and now Dillon are my family and I'm going to make sure that I do everything in my power to protect them. This… I promise.

THE END!
