This has been sitting in the back of my computer for ages, and I didn't want to publish it 'cause it seemed too short and not enough of a story. But then I found it again, added a couple of things, and thought it seemed cute, so why not? Because I love Raimei and Kouichi together only second to Raikou and Gau ^^ I'm proud to say I shipped them right from the moment on the train in, like, volume one when Raimei told Kouichi that he wasn't her type...

I don't own Nabari. Enjoy!

Small Fortune

"Kouchi-kun! Have half a fortune cookie."

Kouichi blinked at the curved half of a cookie that Raimei had thrust at him. "Hmm?"

"Take it," ordered Raimei, waving it dangerously close to his face. "They were giving them away free at the ramen place down the street."

"O-okay." Before Raimei could break either his nose or his glasses, Kouichi accepted his half of the fortune cookie.

Satisfied, Raimei nodded and crunched her own half between her teeth. The two of them dawdled down the thrumming streets of Tokyo, each nibbling at the sweet, cardboardy cookies.

Peeking over Raimei's shoulder, Kouichi said, "So, what's your fortune, Raimei-san?"

"Our fortune," Raimei corrected him. "We shared the cookie, remember."

A faint dusting of crimson coloured Kouichi's cheeks. "Oh, yeah," he agreed, hoping he sounded casual. "What's our fortune, then?"

"Hmm… let's see…" Raimei pretended to study the narrow slip of paper closely. "It says we're gonna settle down, get married, and have five kids."

"What?"

"Mmm-hmm, and they're gonna be called Chiyoko, Katsumi, Hiroshi, Naomi-"

"It can't say that!" spluttered Kouichi, feeling his cheeks overheat as he tried to snatch the paper from her.

Raimei laughed at his expression, holding the fortune out of his reach. "Kidding!" She crumpled it in her hand and tossed it behind her, where it fell beyond the bridge where they were standing into the river.

"Raimei-san!" Kouichi gazed after the fortune, half-disappointed.

"Fortunes like that are stupid anyway," said Raimei airily as it drifted away, pulled strongly by the current of the river. Impulsively, she reached out and grabbed Kouichi's hand. "C'mon, I wanna show you that ramen place. It was awesome!"

Kouichi bit back the urge to stutter at the feel of Raimei's hand warm against his palm, but he couldn't stop himself blushing like a girl… again. "O-okay," he agreed tamely, letting Raimei drag him along.

Perhaps some fortunes were best left mysteries after all.
