wild cat: Well! I don't write her with a childish accent, I just imagine it and write it down. I know plenty of children, take care of them daily in fact. What I've learned is that all children vary when it comes to speaking. Besides, everything Anna says is basic English language. Hope that clears things up.

ArmourMaster: Aw, thank you. Yeah, I get that a lot. I just get side-tracked and I have other pieces of work on the way. I hope to get better at this though. Here is the next bit!

Disclaimer: I don't own Soul Eater.

Annabelle furrowed her eyebrows in concentration as she practiced writing her name.

Soul watched over her head, her body already numbing his left leg.

"Look, that's an 'm'," He explained while writing on the other sheet of paper, "And this is an 'n'," He wrote the other alphabet under the lowercase 'm'.

"I wrote that!" Argued Annabelle.

"No you didn't! You wrote two 'm's!" He shook his head and held her right hand in his, fixing the placement of the pencil in her fingers. "Say it with me. 'M'." He wrote the letter slowly, as well as said it slowly.

"It's hard! They look the same!" She whined, squirming in his lap. "I don't wanna!"

"Look! Your mom's gonna kill me if I don't teach you how to write!" He grit his teeth and tightened his hold around the blonde munchkin's stomach. "Besides, your mom's name starts with an 'm'. Don't you wanna learn how to write that?" He asked, hopeful.

Annabelle bit her lip and looked up at him. "Yeah..."

"Then come on," He smiled, "Say it with me. 'M'!"

She giggled as he guided her hand to write the letter, causing him to chuckle along with her.

Maka tapped her knee, a habit she had gained from Soul.

She groaned when first realizing that a few months back, but had quickly become accustomed to it as Soul would smile whenever she did it.

"Ms. Albarn? What brings you back to the station?" Officer Martin asked, sitting in front of her.

"Uh, well, I need to know the date of birth of Annabelle. I need some of her records, actually. All of her records, actually. I mean, if that's allowed...?" Maka gulped, she was still not used to the thought of being in charge of another human that seemed to now be your freaking daughter.

"Huh? What for?" The officer asked, scribbling away on a notepad.

"I- I- um..." She took a deep breath, she battled Kishins on a daily (or used to) so this should be nothing. "I'm putting Anna in Kindergarten, but I need her records. I'm sorry I didn't ask for it when I adopted her, I was just in a rush and everything was happening too fast." She apologized, realizing this could have been avoided if she had had common sense at the time.

"It's fine," The officer said, gesturing to one of his co-workers.

He asked her to get the file and the female officer nodded, hurrying to get it.

"So, how is the kid? You and your boyfriend doing good?" The officer asked, scribbling some more in the notebook and glancing up with a smile.

Maka blushed and sputtered. "I-! We aren't-! We're just partners! I mean, weapon and meister partners!" She sunk in her chair. She really didn't do well when it came to her and Soul being mistaken as a couple. Soul usually did the talking, he always had a monotonous demeanor.

"Oh, sorry. It was wrong for me to assume. You two are just closer than any weapon-meister pair I've met, and I've met every one of them!" He chuckled, giving her a few papers. "Would you please sign this? It's just so we can confirm you've taken the copy of the files legally." He also handed her a pen.

"Okay..." She was still red as she looked over the papers and signed them.

"Here you go sir," The female officer handed him a file, earning a smile from her upper.

"Thank you," He chimed and the officer blushed before going back to her own desk.

"Seems you've got someone interested in you..." Maka teased as they traded papers.

He chuckled, a fond look in his eyes. "She's just too loyal sometimes, even took a bullet for me once." He shook his head. "But, I guess our work gets in the way. We can't seem to get together."

Maka smiled before leaning over and placing her hand on his and squeezing. "I guess you two just have to compromise."

He nodded. "Thank you."

She stood up and shook her head, clutching the file to her chest. "No, thank you."

She had read the file while walking home, almost tripping and falling flat on her face at one point when she found out when Anna's birthday was.

With a sigh, she opened the apartment door.

"I'm home..." She called out, closing the door quietly.

Soul looked up from his place on the couch, his view of his meister blocked by the little girl who laid on his chest. He lifted his free hand and brought a finger to his lips, his other hand rubbing Annabelle's back to keep her asleep.

She giggled lightly, putting the file down onto the kitchen table and walked over to them. "Hey." She greeted quietly, sitting on the ground.

"Hey." He grumbled sleepily as Maka turned and turned the television off. He rubbed his face with a yawn, the child on his chest rearranging herself until she felt comfortable again. "How'd it go?" He asked in a whisper.

She hummed, brushing hair off Annabelle's face. "Okay... I have talk to you later though."

He raised an eyebrow and stopped rubbing the child's back. "Why not now?"

"It's about Anna..."

"Always about Anna." He countered with a smirk.

"Later..." She growled.

Her partner only chuckled and sat up, hands wrapped around Annabelle's back. "I'll tuck her in and then we'll talk." He got up and hummed a piano piece as he walked to Maka's room.

Maka stood up and went over to the kitchen table, pulling up a chair and sitting in it. She pulled the file towards herself and looked through it once more.

Soul quietly slid in to the chair in front of her, tapping the table in a beat both could hear in his head. "What's it about?"

She turned to a certain page and slid it over to him. She watched as his eyes grow wide and his mouth drop.

He looked back up to her and exclaimed as softly as he could, "But that's next week!"

"Exactly." She said, closing the file and putting it back in front of herself. "We don't have much time to arrange a party, Soul."

"She'll be turning five!" He said in wonder, the girl looked a little too young for her age.

"Soul-"

"I never had a fifth birthday..."

Maka pursed her lips, that was another thing with her partner. He barely ever talked about his family, it was something they both silently agreed on never talking about.

She stood up and walked over to him. He let out a sigh as she hugged him awkwardly from behind, arms wrapped around his neck and hands splayed on his chest.

"You know, you're being a great dad right?" She finally said out loud.

He chuckled and laid a hand on hers. "Yeah. We're way better at parenting than our own parents were." He traced circles on his partner's hand.

"Yeah..." She blushed from behind him. She was a parent. With Soul. She and Soul were parents of the same child. She and Soul were Annabelle's parents.

"So, party planning..." She whispered as she rest her chin on his head. "You're gonna go shopping for all the stuff."

"NO WAY!"

Another short chapter, sorry guys.

I'm a bit busy, taking care of SoMa week fics. So look forward to that!

Until next time!
