Day 1: Fantasy
In her fantasies, Korra is wearing a gorgeous concoction, all royal blue silk and ruffles and black belts. He is kneeling in front of her, dressed to the nines in her blazer and tie, offering a silk band with the cerulean pendant dripping from it. He is smiling, as if nothing in the world could possibly make him as happy as her. When she says yes, he stands up and kisses her, full of passion and freedom and love.
In her wishes, he breaks up with Asami, and comes to her with assurances that it was never real and how she was the one for him, and promises of a future that will remain untainted forever. He tells her that he loves her, and that he was an idiot to not realize that earlier. Everything is fixed and perfect and right.
In her hopes, he is standing in front of her as a lover, rather than a good friend. He doesn't exchange eskimo-kisses and sugar coated pet names with Asami- he throws a fistful of fire at her, and then pulls her close to press his forehead against hers. He stares into her eyes, and it is perfect and wonderful and the best feeling she could ever imagine.
In her nightmares, he is standing at the altar with the ivory-clad heiress, whispering promises of forever and love and hope, and she is staring at the love of her life slip through her fingers. She leaves, rides Naga to the ends of the earth, and it still isn't far enough. She alters her hairstyle, her clothes, her personality, and everything still reminds her of him. She screams and screams and screams until Pema comes in and rocks her, sobbing and screaming and pleading in the mother's arms.
In reality, he is kissing Asami on the cheek and going on lunch dates and fighting with Korra. He is brooding and reserved and passionate and calm and outspoken and protective, and so Mako that it drives her crazy. He invades her personal space, only to yell at her about losing concentration. He stares at her, taken by the sheer power behind the forms, but scolds her a moment later for missing a step. He is kind and caring and open one day, and the next, his walls shoot up so high that she is surprised he is not an earthbender.
In her dreams, he will love her. Little does she know, her dreams will become reality soon enough. In fact, they already have.
