Sunshine

Warning: character death, slight spoilers

Pairing: none

Summary: Most of the angels couldn't agree on starting the apocalypse, or what side to fight on, but when they are brought to their knees with the backlash of an angel's death, of their Sunshine's, they all can agree on one thing. Morning.

Raphael fell to his knees, the group of angels in front of him on their stomachs, or the more powerful ones, hands and knees. The backlash of grace was so much more powerful than what they we used to, and so unfamiliar to most, but he heard cries of despair ring from every corner of heaven, his and Michael's voices included. They knew who that was.

Several humans were now death as those on earth felt his death and those who remembered him cried out for their elder brother.

"No…" Raphael whispered before he vanished. Those that remembered him also vanished, disappearing to corners of globe and heaven. Most went to his heaven, one of the few to have his own, others went to the garden.

"Where is he Castiel? Did you kill him?" Raphael questioned from the backseat of the Impala, in between Kali and Castiel. Everyone turned a weapon on him, except Castiel.

"I didn't think he would have done. It would be like Dean killing Sam because Sam forgot the pie. But he did. He killed him because he sided with the humans Raph. How could he have done that?" Raphael slumped back against the seat. His eyes fell shut, his eyes leaking in what he knew the humans called tears.

"Where Cassie?" he rasped. Castiel looked at him sadly.

"A hotel called Elysian Fields. Twenty mile west." Raphael flew from the car, both angels ignoring the humans and pagan.

At the sight of his younger brother, Raphael fell to his knees. He crawled towards the body, unable to stand. He cradled his head in his lap. Amber hair fell just pass the ear, once golden eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. His sword (Dear Father, Lucifer had used his own sword against him!) laid next to them.

"Why did you do this, Sunshine? You should have stayed in hiding." Raphael ignored the once gold wings now black ash on the floor. Raphael pushing his hair behind his ear.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You'll never know dear, how much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away." Raphael started the age old lullaby he and Lucifer had created for their baby brother back when it was just the four of them.

"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping

I dreamed I held you in my arms

But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken

So I hung my head and I cried." As he started the second verse he felt Michael, Castiel, Balthazar, Anael, Yofiel, and every other angel that knew who had perished join in. Even Lucifer had.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You'll never know dear, how much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away." Slowly, as they entered the third verse, the rest of the heavenly host joined, even those who fell with Lucifer, or had torn out their grace and fell like Anael, stunned at the lost. Some didn't even know why they were singing and others looked down from the heavens.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You'll never know dear, how much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

Please don't take my sunshine away." As it finished, he felt Castiel, Balthazar and Michael appear in the ballroom. Castiel and Balthazar were entrusted with his body while the two archangels led the way, calling for all to hear, Gabriel, the youngest archangel, the massager of god, the Sunshine of heaven, was dead.
