The thingamajig that led to the whatchamacallit was jammed.

Sirius gave it another tweak, wriggle, and twist, but it wouldn't budge an inch. He turned and shrugged helplessly at James behind him.

James nudged him aside and gave the thingamajig a tap with his wand. Red sparks flew out of his wand and both of them jumped back. Sirius gave it a tentative push. Still nothing.

It was no good. They were stuck and stuck well.

The nice summer wind blew past them. A stray ray of sunshine poked through the tiny window far above them. And from a short distance away, there came a splash and a shriek.

James turned and smiled at Sirius. "Guess it worked."

Sirius grinned back. "Guess it did."

As a dripping wet, furious Professor McGonagall turned the corner, James gave his best friend a funny little smile.

"Partners for all time, eh, Padfoot?"

"You betcha, Prongs. You bet."
