As early as their kindergarten days, Yuuki has always known that their group won't stay together forever—and the first one to leave is Kaname. It isn't that he's pessimistic or want to be apart, but their personalities clash too much, their ideals too different from each other, and it doesn't help that they like to pick at his faults and embarrass him in public. Without someone as trustworthy and reliable and easily bullied as Kaname around, their days would definitely not be as fun and interesting.

Why won't Kaname view his apathy towards club joining as something other than laziness? Can't he imagine that it's because he wants to spend time with them? Basketball club takes an unprecedented chunk of his after school hours, and especially irregular when tournaments and inter-highs come around.

He actually really likes their time in the same class in their second year. Close-by without being intimately annoying, Yuuki can torment his childhood friend to his heart's content. But it doesn't last long. Even though they're still high school students, there are already cracks in their friendship as they submerge into their studies in preparation for advancement exams. Kaname has always had higher ambitions and resolve to stick to his life goals, and has zero tolerance for people getting in his way.

Frustrated but without an outlet, all he can do is irritate Kaname every time they manage to get together in order for him to focus his attention solely on him. It's odd for his character, since he's the most aloof one, yet he's also the one who doesn't want to change.

"Yuuki? Come on, we have to go now."

He follows Yuuta out the door, for once dressed in his school uniform properly, complete with blazer and tie, making it even harder for people to distinguish between him and his older brother. It may be childish of him, but he's going to follow middle school graduation tradition, and if Kaname refuses, he'll just have to rip it forcefully from him.

Authoress' Notes: That second button close to the heart tradition doesn't really apply to their high school uniform, but it's the thought that counts? ;;
