An Author's Note:

A Brief Explanation on My Abandonment

It has been four years since the last update on The Hanging Tree. Despite the sudden abandonment, I still think about this story, the characters, and -most importantly- my readers. Out of all my written stories, The Hanging Tree holds a special place in my heart; it is a story where I had a designated notebook for all my ideas pertaining to this story, brainstorming outlines, and multiple endings in mind. On my Google Docs, I have a document full of quotes that I thought held an essence to what I was trying to convey with THT, and a YouTube Playlist with songs that helped inspire the story and chapter titles. I drew my characters and storyboarded scenes. With so much excitement and dedication, I completely immersed myself in the conflict between Beth and the Once-ler. By chapter 20, I feel like I peaked. Never have I had the amount of reviews, favorites, and follows that you all have given. I couldn't be happier and so grateful for all your support.

So, what happened?

This past week, I reread THT and all your reviews. While doing this, I realized I could at least give you all an Author's note explaining why the sudden halt and to give thanks.

I had written this story during my Junior year of high school and then by the time my Senior year rolled around, I got preoccupied with school, romantic relationships, and a new job. It was also around this time when I began to notice that most the Lorax fans started to fade and move on to the next popular thing. With this realization, my interest dropped and since my Senior school work demanded far more attention, I focused on graduating. I was also working a part-time job that consumed my social life.

Long story short, I have just been working full-time, committing to a three year relationship, and living on my own. Basically, living the "adult life." So glamorous, am I right?

To all the fans that are reading this, I am sorry you have not reached the conclusion of this story. I know plenty of you wanted to see how it all would play out and I feel your disappointment. Not a day goes by where I don't think about how wonderful you all were. Also, chapter 21 is partially written, and if any of you are curious, I can send you a link to the document.

Maybe one day I'll return to The Hanging Tree. Maybe I'll revisit and heavily edit those early chapters. Unfortunately, those are just "maybes" and I can not guarantee anything.

Once again, thank you for all the wonderful reviews and support. I hope you all will continue to read happily.
