"Hybrid-I program's first augmentations had occurred a full week after all the candidates had been successfully replaced with flash clones and documented. As expected, we suffered losses during and after the experiment. I frown at such a misuse of lives but it had to be done. Miraculously, a large portion of the children had survived, their genetic structure altered in that of the first hybrids. Such a moment could be considered a breakthrough in genetic engineering and modification technology. However, the costs in such a risky procedure might never allow a second Hybrid program. After all, if the Spartan-II program could cost a frigate per child, then the Hybrid-I program is a colony per child. If not for the extra financial aid from the SSA, this would not be possible."

RECORD END.

Chapter 14: Myth Delved In Legend

"They've taken Professor Anders have they?" Captain Raditz of the SSA Double Sunday questioned through the communication network. "I can stall the covenant ship for a brief period of time, but you'll have to make your decision on the subject. Frankly, I don't give a damn but this incident could represent a situation."

Captain Cutter remained cool-headed at his fellow Captain's remarks, but inside he steamed with an underlying anger at the Saiyan. He always disliked working with Raditz, the saiyan's cold attitude towards human and saiyans he deemed weak was very contradicting to his young brother's, Admiral Goku, own. He privately wondered if the only reason Raditz remained as a Captain was because of the SSA's Admiral.

Sergeant Forge and one of the Spartan-II's stood beside him in this discussion. The Smart AI, Serina, keeping track of Ander's corresponder.

Cutter narrowed his eyes, Professor Anders was his responsibility. Not to mention the capture of Anders could make direct conflict with the Hypodermic-FXT-J, leading to the discovery of more human worlds and the possibility of Earth, not to mention the knowledge of Saiyan colony locations and even Planet Vegeta, the Saiyan homeworld.

"Captain, Covenant vessel has engaged with the Double Sunday, they won't last long against such odds." Serina, the UNSC Smart Artificial Intelligence, stated.

Forge smashed a fist against the display's hard metal, "We have to go after her, Captain!"

"Sir," the Spartan-II began, "Anders represents a significant security breach in violation of Cole's orders. We must take action."

"Serina, what's the odds we can board that ship?" Captain Cutter questioned as he distantly watched the engagement between the SSA and the Covenant vessels.

"Lower than four point eleven percent, a chance that lessens by the passing minute, no wait, make that one point two four…" Serina trailed off. "Covenant vessel just passed by the Double Sunday and heading to access Slipstream."

"Message the Double Sunday to remain here, we're following that ship!" Cutter commanded.

"Aye, aye, Captain. Sending glorified text message and preparing the drive for slip space," The AI said.

This particular mission held an emotional connection for one of the members of the team, after all, the package in question had trained the program's members for years in their childhood. Now this individual had been captured by Insurrectionist during a coup in the colony of Boundria. An outer colony isolated from UNSC forces that were distracted by the hostile Covenant.

SAA Senior Chief Petty Officer Broly.

He had been captured by rogue Insurrectionist forces and brought into a tightly defended facility deemed too hazardous for ground forces without large losses; losses that could be better used against the Covenant. ODSTs could get the job done but didn't have the necessary tact and skill required for the extraction.

By order of the Office of Naval Intelligence, to prevent the potential leak of highly classified information and retrieval of high-ranking official, it was deemed required for a team of Spartan-IIs and Hybrid-Is to be assigned.

Blue Team took the job.

This was a bit personal for them, they respected their trainers to an incredible degree, the ones who taught them everything, who gave them purpose.

Senior Chief Broly was the primary instructor for the Hybrid-I program, trainer of all its saiyan candidates and worked in close conjunction with Senior Chief Mendez and Doctor Catherine Halsey.

Blue Team stood in the armory, preparing numerous weapons and their gear for the operation to come. In this room, Spartan-117, Spartan-087, Hybrid-711, and the newest member, Hybrid-160.

Since the Hybrid Program outnumbered its Spartan comrades, it wasn't uncommon to see Spartan Teams have more than one Hybrid on their roster. In actuality, many teams had two or more Hybrids, and there were entire teams composed of only Hybrids as well. However, the latter was much fewer considering it was in the best cohesion to diversify and create even variant teams.

Hybrid-160, also known as Videl-160, was a special case in the Hybrid roster. Her Ki Energy had a genetic flaw in it, that in which she couldn't use it in 'Energy' techniques and only utilize it in self-augmentation. Videl-160's Ki flaw was also the reason she survived the augmentation process, as the procedure caused her Ki to sustain her life while allowing her to live, the process forced her Ki energy to be subconsciously used in endurance.

As such, Hybrid-160 couldn't use techniques, but she has the highest endurance rating of any other Hybrid-I. Able to take on multiple injuries that outweigh any other Hybrid's tolerance level without succumbing to unconsciousness. Some Spartans and Hybrids would argue that her pain tolerance rivaled or exceeded Kelly-087's, of course, the Hybrid would never match the speed of the Spartan-II.

Because of this, she fought more like a Spartan than a Hybrid, but still, she wore the SVALINN Mark III as it still worked in conjunction with her latent Ki energy.

The Master Chief, Spartan-117, loaded the MA5B Assault Rifle, placing multiple ammo magazines into his ammo belt tied around the MJOLNIR's waistline. After looking over his main arsenal once more for any problems, he attached the rifle to the magnetic locks on his back.

He glanced towards his team, Gohan-711 finished his own check on the BR55 Battle Rifle while Kelly-087 heaved a crate into the room carrying high-grade explosive weaponry, behind the Spartan lay Videl-160 who was investigating the dual SMGs in her possession.

Still, the wooden crate Kelly brought in caught the Master Chief's attention. She tore the lid off the top, revealing container, which Kelly then lifted and placed on the corners of the crate and unbuckling the locks.

John-117, The Master Chief, walked and looked over Kelly's shoulder. "Spartan Laser?" he questioned.

"Intelligence says we might encounter some unorthodox Insurrectionist forces, they sent this for heavy weapons support against potential saiyan enemies," Kelly answered.

Gohan perked up at that, "Saiyan combatants? Insurrectionist forces have never had any saiyan collaborators before," The Hybrid-I said.

Videl-160, who had her helmet off, arched an eyebrow at this, "Saiyan insurrectionists? Why the sudden change; I doubt the Covenant could cause this."

"That's what ONI wants to know," Kelly began. "It's a secondary objective to retrieving Senior Chief Broly."

"Regardless," The Master Chief said, "We will make use of this if we are engaging possible hostile saiyans we'll have to keep enemy Ki usage in mind."

Gohan stood up, "On average, SEWs cannot use more than three second-grade Ki techniques before suffering complete Ki exhaustion. A Saiyan civilian cannot even use a Ki technique however they can still fire one or two fourth-grade Ki blasts."

The Ki Scale System was a rating formula for the versatility and power of Ki techniques. The most basic of Ki techniques, I.E. being Ki blasts, are considered fourth-grade on the Ki Scale. There are four grades of Ki Techniques, each grade represents potential destructive or enhancement capability.

Fourth-grade are simply skills that can knock a person off their feet, or cause minor burns to an unprotected individual, even make them run a little faster or jump higher. Most saiyans can only use fourth-grade.

Third-grade are more complex techniques, trained martial artist and saiyan soldiers are expected to be able to use third-grade Ki, which includes strength enhancement, speed increase, basic Ki wave and weaker Ki techniques.

Second-grade is where the more flashy and also destructive Ki techniques are placed. The legendary Kamehameha Wave falls in this category, which's strength can be capable of destroying military-grade UNSC vehicles. The SEWs have to be capable of pulling off at least one of these second-grade techniques at the end of training, most Hybrids are capable of pulling these off but tend not to unless necessary due to excessive Ki cost.

First-grade techniques are considered prohibited unless the situation meets certain conditions and permission is granted from a top-ranking officer. These techniques are considered a suicide wish for any saiyan, but their destructive capabilities far outstrip even second-grade, capable of disabling, potentially destroying, UNSC frigates.

No saiyan or Hybrid alive uses first-grade Ki techniques, there is less than half a dozen known first-grade techniques all of which were recorded from recovered historical records on the saiyan homeworld.

"Spartans, Hybrids, target location reached. Prepare for drop off point." The comms on the ship lit up as the ONI crew member signaled them.

They were on a stealth corvette after all.

"Roger that," Master Chief replied. "Gear up, we're heading in. Prioritize stealth," he said.

Gohan-711 attached a silencer mod to the BR55 in his hold, "Yes sir."

"Gotcha," Videl-160 replied as she typed in the TACPAD located on the underside of the right arm's armor plate, before halting to attach her SVALINN helmet back over her head.

Kelly placed the Spartan Laser onto the magnetic holds of the MJOLNIR, then grabbed herself a silenced DMR. "Ready," she said.

The hanger doors opened, revealing the night enveloped forests below, the stealth corvette lowering itself as quietly before the light went green.

"Go," Master Chief said, as he and Blue Team leaped out of the UNSC space vessel, falling dozens of meters before landing harshly onto the ground below. The sound of snapping tree branches, shattering rocks, and disturbed birds chirping in disturbance as they flown away echoed in the local area.

The Master Chief got on his feet, "Blue Team, headcount."

"Here," Hybrid-711 replied instantly, "Ten meters from your position."

"Here," Kelly said, appearing next to the Chief on his left side.

"Damn tree, be there shortly," Videl responded with a curse.

"Looks like our new member landed on a tree," Kelly joked silently.

Videl appeared behind the team just as Gohan came from Chief's right side. The former saying, "I spotted enemy headquarters just a few clicks north of our location," Hybrid-160 began. "Also take into consideration that Insurrection base may have automated defenses."

"Noted," 117 replied. "Gohan, thoughts?"

"I can hack into the defense systems if we reach a console, Ki techniques also an option. Otherwise, avoid camera sights," Gohan-711 turned to Hybrid-160. "Did you get a clear look on what model?"

"Looked to be standardized defenses, having M202 MGs attached to each head," Video replied.

Kelly responded, "Those have a limited angle of fire if we can stay outside the cone."

Gohan nodded, "Tracking speed is also limited, our speed alone will make them fruitless in trying to hit us."

"Alright," Master Chief began, "Let's go, avoid sight, stealth movement. Radio silence."

Blue Team moved, leaving the confines of the forest. The four super soldiers left little to no sound in their movements, even while wearing such heavy suits such as the MJOLNIR and SVALINN.

Master Chief along with the rest of his team approached the Insurrectionist base, but as they closed in they took noticed of a certain oddity that didn't sit well with his gut instinct. The defense turrets that would normally be active appeared to be quite the opposite, they lie still. He flicked a finger up, halting his team for a second to take a closer inspection of the base.

It still appeared to have power, but there was no patrols, no active defenses, no chatter on any sort of communications.

Regardless, they had a mission to fulfill.

He jerked his head by a centimeter, causing his team to spread out and keep their eyes peeled for any danger. The Master Chief kept his firearm raised high, ready to engage any hostilities as they got closer and closer to the entrance. Blue Team reached it without any difficulties, Videl covering the rear as the other three prepared to enter the base.

Gohan opened the door, stepping in with the BR55 Battle Rifle, only to see an empty hallway. He stepped deeper inside, the others following behind before the door closed behind them all. The Hybrid-I motioned to his team leader with the cusp of his hand.

The meaning behind it was clear.

Covenant?

The Chief thought for a moment and shrugged slightly before pointing to Kelly and fanning his hand out forward.

Unknown, Kelly scout it out.

Spartan-087 took point, walking ahead of the rest of Blue Team as she kept her DMR to bear. Only silence, with the exception of Blue Team's footsteps and the humming of electrical machines, occupied the inner walls of the Insurrectionist base. Kelly-087 took a turn, and instantly went behind cover, not because she was being fired at but because of what she saw. The Spartan-II motioned for the rest of her comrades to come forward.

They approached, taking notice of what Kelly had reacted too.

There was a dead corpse, right outside a titanium door that was on complete lockdown, it appeared to be the entrance to an elevator shaft.

They all encircled the body, Gohan kneeling to investigate the dead insurrectionist, taking notice of charred, burnt flesh, closer inspection revealed the cause.

The Hybrid-I moved with an opened palm to his team, before pointing at the body and then motioning a shut down towards the door.

Ki usage. Died from Ki. Possibly locked down the shaft before death.

He stood back up, looking toward his leader.

The Master Chief locked two fingers at the elevator, ordering his team to move in. He glanced at Videl, signaling her to open the shaft.

Hybrid-160 nodded in confirmation, placing her weapon onto the magnetic attachments of the SVALINN. The Ki energy within her gathered together and augmented the Hybrid's physical abilities, allowing her to grasp the titanium door's cracks and yank the elevator shaft wide open.

Blue Team then entered the elevator, which proceeded to turn on and lower them all into the underground base below.

Suddenly, the elevator shook.

Following it, came a loud, disgruntled, yet familiar voice.

"Kakarot!"

This alarmed the team, as they prepared for immediate combat upon leaving the elevator, hell, even before they left it. When the elevator left the rocky tunnel it was traversing down, Blue Team was greeted with the sight of a large, underground complex, a strange laboratory of some description that reminded them of the facility back on Reach that gave them their augmentations.

It also was completely ruined, with several craters and smashed equipment, and littered with hundreds of bodies that were of insurrectionist origin.

The hissing of smoke and churning of gears signaled the end of the road. The four super soldiers cautiously begin leaving the elevator and walking through the valley of death.

"Hahaha! Have you come to die?"

"Chief Broly," Gohan replied audibly.

Blue Team searched around, making sure to stick together as they've yet to know where the voice came from.

"Sir," Spartan-117 began. "We have come to retrieve you and return you to SSA custody."

"Those worms? They are beneath me as are you!"

Videl looked up, "There!" She exclaimed.

The entirely of Blue Team pointed their weapons upward towards the ceiling, but they didn't need too as the individual in question fell and landed on top of a bunch of crates of which were smashed into pancakes under the man's sheer mass.

The super soldiers could barely believe their eyes, this was something that their training did not prepare them for.

There, standing four feet taller than even them in their suits, with muscles so rigid and massive that it would be physically impossible for anyone to move, shirtless with the remains of an SAA military attire covering his waist down.

His hair, spiking outward in multiple directions like an exploding grenade, a bright, sickly green in color with white eyes holding no pupils.

SAA Senior Chief Petty Officer Broly.

At least, that was what this monster resembled.

"Greetings, Spartans, Hybrids, come to die for your god?"

Hybrid-160 and Hybrid-711 looked at him in shock, but their training kicked in, regaining composure.

This was no longer their trainer, the mission prioritized everything.

The Master Chief and Kelly knew this just as well.

The Chief could no longer be rescued, thus the secondary plan would take hold.

Elimination.

"Blue Team," The Chief began. "Take him out!"
