Sixteen year-old April O'Neil closed and latched the window leading into her aunt's guest bedroom and suddenly found herself at a loss. Yesterday at this time she had shared a hot-fudge sundae with her father before going to bed and now she found herself in her aunt's apartment, in her hopefully temporary bedroom, sitting on a hard and lumpy bed. Frowning she pulled her headband and hair tie out of her hair and ran her fingers through her ginger locks while toeing off her boots. Lying back on the bed she linked her hands over her stomach and closed her eyes to will the tears away that wanted to fall.

Her father was missing, taken by some alien robot-brain things god knows where, and she was scared. Was he alive? Dead? What did they want with him? When they got what they wanted would they let him go? In the dark recesses of her mind, scenarios ran rampant until she was sitting back up, hands clenching her hair as she shook her head. It didn't pay for her to think of these things. Instead she needed to focus on a plan on how to rescue him.

But how?

'We will not rest until we find him…'

She smiled.

Her new friends, far from ordinary due to their origin, had vowed to her tonight that they would help find him. Gratitude spread in her chest as she remembered their promise and her cheeks warmed slightly when remembering Donatello being sincere with her. She really didn't have that many friends, spending her nights in with her father doing random experiments and watching corny movies. She had two girls she hung out with to play video games and shop but she always ended up wanting to leave early… Maybe it was because of mom…

"Don't go there, April," she said softly to herself. "Just don't."

Sighing, and knowing she wasn't about to sleep, she snuck back out of her window onto the tiny balcony and pulled her knees up to her chest while sitting on ledge. Her head fell back and her eyes closed while the gentle breeze helped calm her. She was ready to fight tooth and nail and if tonight was a small glimpse into what her newly found friends knew, maybe she could talk them into teacher her how to fight. She was happy they trusted her with their secret and in turn she hoped they could trust her enough to help train her then bring her along when rescuing her father.

"April?" called her aunt from inside her room. "Are you here?"

"Yeah, Auntie, I'm out here." Her aunt poked her head out, short red hair almost falling over her eyes.

"You ok?"

"Yeah."

"Come inside, Sweetie, it's too cold out."

April nodded and entered the apartment and bidding her aunt a good night changed into her pajamas then crawled into bed. The sheets were too scratchy and she was certain there was a mouse in the wall beside her head. She shivered, kicked the blankets off her heated body, and stared up at the ceiling with unblinking blue eyes.

"I'll find you, Daddy," she whispered. "I promise."
