Previously.
Wait a minute I have powers! Why didn't I use them on her? Well now's better than ever, she thought idiotically.
She brought her hands in front of her chest. They began to glow with a hot pink light that whirled through her body to heal her wounds. She felt the warm glow wash over her. It shrunk the superficial cuts in her arms and closed them. The one on her wrist closed successfully. A sigh of relief fell from her lips.
"Who, who's there?"
Oshoku, Part 1.
~Earlier~
The night filled the expanse of the sky as Sesshomaru flew across the star littered heavens above the landscape. He passed through the violet clouds stealthily.
His sleek silver hair whipped behind him and shimmered in the moonlit air. The sleeves of his elaborate traveling kimono and external fur-appendage fluttered elegantly behind his body in the night wind.
The end of his straight and narrow nose twitched, sniffing the air delicately. He picked up a sweet, innocent, fruity-floral scent floating in the breeze. The lovely purity called to his demonic blood and woke the sleeping beast in the back of his mind.
An overly interested red-eyed dog burst from its mental cage and bound forth, shoving its master aside. Stunned, Sesshomaru paused on the mental sidelines as the inu-beast investigated. He folded his arms over his chest and observed the curious sniffs of its big white nose and the excited wag of its long fluffy tail. It turned on heel and bound toward him with its fringed tongue hanging out of its mouth.
It plopped right on its butt in front of its master's boots and tilted its head to the side, looking up at him expectantly wagging its tail. Sesshomaru quirked a brow looking down at the beast as he heard it speaking in ancient Inu.
I wish to locate the origins of this tantalizing fragrance, requested the beast. Sesshomaru stared intensely into its crimson eyes. The creature's enthusiasms in such trivial matters were few and far between, except for one odd human girl. No, not his ward, but another. Alas, Sesshomaru was not a cruel master. He obliged to the beast's request.
After soaring across the twinkling black horizon, Sesshomaru found himself hovering over Inuyasha's Forest. He didn't favor the run-ins he had with his detestable half-brother. However, this was from where the fragrance emanated. He descended from the sky and into the treetops. He landed on the mossy forest floor and wandered stealthily along the tree line.
With some displeasure, Sesshomaru watched from the shadows as Inuyasha's sex puppet departed into the sky. He wondered grimly if the scent belonged to her, but a sniff of the air corrected that thought. Sesshomaru turned his nose up, for the clay onna only reeked of death, decay, and half-breeds. He turned his sniffer back to the sweet scent. Curiously, the inu-demon began to track the divine fragrance as it moved. The stronger the perfume became, the more his curiosity grew.
Soon he arrived at the location of his desire and found that he was not alone. The small clearing nearby was occupied by an odd human female, one of his half-brother's wenches. To have a stable of lovers was not uncommon for young demons, but Sesshomaru found the half-breed's actions on the subject immoral. However, Lord Sesshomaru wasn't here to inquire into his idiotic sibling's illicit affairs but to find the scent's origin, this girl.
~Present~
Kagome felt her aura shift all at once, signifying that a massive yokai presence had surrounded her. Her hands quickly cradled the sides of her head, and she gasped in pain. The small bubble of her natural barrier protected her from being crushed by the weight of this mysterious energy.
I know this aura, I've encountered it a few times before, she thought.
Kagome raised her hands and traced a pattern over the middle of her forehead with her nail. She spread her feet apart and slapped her hands together, reciting a mantra to invoke a third spiritual eye. As it slowly opened, the priestess's eyes changed from a subtle amethyst to a blazing tourmaline pink. Her uniform rippled against skin from the wind of energy flowing from her body.
Pink whispers of flames spread from Kagome's fingertips as she guided her spirit out of her body and through the dark. The girl's mind split from her body and an array of colors illuminated everything around her. The priestess in her astral form suddenly with clashed with something gaped in astonishment as she viewed the glittering wall of gold around her.
She quickly wrapped her pure inner strength tightly around herself to appear non-threatening to the massive yokai energy. How could she have forgotten this power? The pressure of the youkai shifted dangerously around her. She winced at what felt like claws ripping down her back. The mysterious aura pushed down on the little priestess, and she nearly lost her balance when one flair spread from the wall and slammed into her. With a cry of pain, she uncurled her energy from her body and fought back against the haze.
A whip of pink crackling light hit the wall of gold fluctuating aura. The attack shined almost too brightly, but Kagome viewed a tall humanoid masculine shape from the haze. At that moment she knew the owner of the youkai. Holding an astral form become too much for the little priestess. She stumbled forward as something inside of her cracked, the protective barrier began to shake and waiver along with her concentration. Her legs trembled under the stress of forcing out too much of her ki and holding the shield.
Return to your body, child, a voice in her head warned.
She obediently shut the eye, and her spirit came rushing back. The ghost of pink slammed into its mortal shell. Kagome opened her eyes just as she felt something wind tightly around her, choking the life from her body. Everything around her swirled into darkness. The last thing she saw were two golden eyes staring back at her from the dark.
Oh no! Kami protect me, the little priestess prayed.
Fear gripped the maiden as the aura stopped squeezing her and started assessing its spiritual counterpart. The pulsating golden wall of yokai blazed brightly from the darkness of the forest before dimming. Kagome felt the yokai release her and allow her to breathe. Once the oxygen hit her lungs, her vision faded in, and she could see once more. A tremble swept up the back of her spine accompanied by a small pained whisper from her lips.
"S-Sesshomaru?" Asked the priestess, listening attentively for a response. Her eyes darkened back to their standard violet color.
"Normally, this one would expect for lesser beings to address him by his titles properly as they should. However, as I recall the encounters between us are rare, so I'll excuse it this time wench, and this time only." The icy arrogance of his sultry voice quickly annoyed her.
Who is this guy calling a wench, she thought.
"You possess more strength than your appearance leads one to believe. Hm, I was sure my youkai would've crushed you if I continued to force it on your weak body. I withdrew before your barrier broke and you collapsed from exhaustion. I suggest you consider yourself lucky, girl."
He proudly tried to kill me with his aura! This jerk, she internally screamed.
While she found him to be quite rude, it had been a long time since Kagome heard his voice. She didn't miss the pompous attitude he threw at her, but at the same time that was just Sesshomaru. Kagome's eyes scanned the darkness where she saw the humanoid shape before. She tucked her bottom lip under her top teeth and chewed it in frustration.
Why is he hiding? It isn't like I'm going to attack him or anything, she thought irritably. The demon in question kept himself shrouded a few steps behind the shadows, not yet ready to reveal himself to the priestess.
Sesshomaru wouldn't admit this to anyone, but the way the wench's powers had grown in the time between their last encounter, impressed him. The girl held her own against eighty-seven percent of his raw aura, a level at which would kill a whole village if he willed it. She boldly defended herself against him with a counter-attack that left him stunned.
He observed the priestess from his place among the shadows as she stood beneath a shower of pale glistening moonlight. She held her silence for a moment before cupping her hands around her mouth and calling out to the elusive demon lord. "Well pardon me Lord Sesshomaru, you're right! It isn't often that I see you, or you see me! However, I think the lucky one here is you!"
Her sass made his lip curl up. Preceding to think the wench was mocking him, the demon narrowed his eyes at her and flared his aura. Kagome's arms dropped, and her bangs curled back at the slight blaze of his yokai. Being around Inuyasha's half-brother made her more tense by the second. She didn't want to piss off this guy, fully aware that doing so guaranteed her a ticket to death. In her head she pondered why Sesshomaru was here, it was far from his territory.
Ah sheesh, who am I kidding? After all that I've been through tonight, this is just the icing on the cake, Kagome humorously thought.
Inuyasha, Kagome didn't know how would she deal with him when she saw him again. After her ugly encounter with Kikyo, everything seemed clear to her. She understood what the walking ash-bag was trying to tell her. Inuyasha hadn't been never after her heart in the first place. He didn't love her. Oh, right. Love, after all this drama it was but a silly word. Childish fairytale thoughts and honest emotions of budding romance. Kagome no longer wondered why these couldn't exist between a willful schoolgirl priestess and pig-headed half-breed. One couldn't breathe love into a corrupted heart and mind that had long since separated.
However, all thoughts of Inu aside, she still had one big issue right in front of her. Sesshomaru. How can I escape, she asked herself. Part of her wondered how long she'd remain with this unsettling figure. Alone with a gracious killer.
This situation couldn't get any worse, could it?
