BPOV

I woke up in a place I didn't recognize. I was floating in water; it wasn't cold it felt nice, warm like Quil even. It was dark but I wasn't afraid, somehow I knew the only thing it would bring was peace, quiet, and comfort. I wish I could stay here forever, in this place there was no pain but there was also no Quil.

Thinking about him, I remembered what happened, the blinding white hot pain. What had made me feel like that? I knew I had to go back, I had to find Quil I needed him.

My eyes snapped open to see the ceiling of the cabin. I tried to move but there was something holding me down. I looked at the hand on my shoulder and followed it up to find Jake, he looked almost pale.

"What's going on Jake?" I tried to look around the room but I couldn't see much, I was on the couch in the living room that much I could tell.

"You called me, do you remember?" Jake asked slowly taking his hand from my shoulder. He placed his elbows on his knees and squinted his eyes as he looked me over, trying to inspect me for further injuries I assumed.

"Yes I remember, it felt like someone hit me then there was a pain across my back, then blood and I passed out." I lifted a hand to my cheek, I couldn't feel anything and it didn't hurt anymore.

"I walked in and found you in a pool of blood Bella; I called Sam he's going to be here soon." He held out his hands and helped me sit up.

My shirt was soaked in blood and was hanging open in the back. Suddenly, I couldn't breathe. I pulled the fabric across my body trying to cover my stomach. Jake looked away to give me some privacy which was strange but appreciated, I was praying he hadn't seen my stomach. Luckily I was wearing Quils oversized shirt so I had plenty of fabric to help.

"What about Quil? Where is he?" I asked looking around as best I could while keeping my stomach covered. Quil wasn't here.

"He was at Sam's when I called; I think he's on his way over. I ripped your shirt open when I saw all the blood once I saw the cuts were healing I put your shirt back, I didn't see anything scouts honor." Jake laughed. I rolled my eyes, he didn't see anything...except for the fact that I didn't have any pants on.

"Will you help me look at my back?" I asked.

"Yea of course Bells," Jake stood helping me off the couch. There was a line of blood at my feet that lead to a huge puddle of deep red blood where I assume I must have fallen. I cringed slightly.

"Don't look Bells, we'll get that cleaned up" Jake said, turning me the opposite direction and leading me to the bathroom and away from the blood.

Jake flipped on the light and I turned my back to the mirror, opening my shirt but being sure to keep my stomach covered.

I looked in the mirror to find blood caked everywhere, my hair, my shirt, even the back of my underwear. There wasn't any more blood coming from the wounds and it didn't hurt but looking down I could see four angry red lines across my skin going down my back.

"Oh god...is that…are those…claw marks?" I asked a little horrified. I had seen marks like these before, on Emily her beautiful flesh forever married with scares.

"That's what they look like but-," there was a loud bang as the front door slammed open. I jumped and Jake ran from the bathroom but stopped. I quickly closed my shirt and joined Jake. I found Quil standing there. He ran over to me and pulled me up in his arms.

"Quil, I was so worried! I woke up and you weren't here and then…" I couldn't finish, I was trying to be strong but there was only so much one girl could take in a 24 hour period.

"Shh, it's ok Bella I won't leave you again, I promise." It was a promise I had heard before but coming from him I could almost trust it, he sounded so sincere. He sat on the couch pulling me onto his lap.

"I think there are some things we need to talk about." Jake spoke up from the other side of the room; I had almost forgotten he was here.

"First, Bella are you feeling ok?" Sam was by the open front door, it seemed odd to me that he cared how I was feeling but then I remembered his words from last night, "You're family and we protect our family".

"I'm fine; I just want to know what happened." My head was still spinning but I had to understand what happened to me.

"Well it seems that Quil and Paul got into a fight this morning." Sam didn't look too upset about it but I was livid. I turned to look at Quil but he just buried his face in my hair, I heard a snort coming from Jacob trying to cover up his laughter.

"You did what? What in the world would you do that for?" He still wouldn't look at me but I felt him stiffen at the sound of my voice. He pulled back a little but didn't meet my eyes.

"He said something stupid, I hit him and he hit me back."

"Wait, you said he hit you? Like, in the face?" I asked my hand reaching up to touch the spot on my cheek that stung so horribly earlier.

"Yea, Bella what's going on?" He turned to face me now.

"Didn't you notice the blood by the door?" I asked a little shocked.

"What?!" Quil hollered he started sniffing the air. As soon as he smelled my blood his eyes dilated. He turned to me and slide my shirt open to reveal the scratches on my back. Quils face dropped, he now a horrified expression crossed his face...

"I...I don't understand…" Quil muttered.

I had a horrible idea that I truly hoped I was wrong about.

"Quil…did Paul do more than hit you?" I asked.

"He took a swipe at my back..." Quil said slowly. I looked at Sam hoping he would confirm or deny my insinuation. He had a worried look on his face but he nodded at took a step into the house.

"Quil…I think when Paul scratched you, somehow through the imprint it happened to Bella as well." Sam explained.

Quil looked like his head was about to explode.

"I think we should go see Qahla Wisatsu'upat," Sam said to no one in particular. I was unfamiliar with the word he said but was sure it was Quileute. Jakes head snapped in his direction an incredulous look on his face.

I looked over to Quil to see that he hadn't moved an inch. He seemed to be having a difficult time dealing with the realm of weirdness we had reached.

"Sorry to be a bother," I said slightly sarcastically, "can someone please explain what's going on?" I asked Sam and Jake because Quil still hadn't spoken, but I think I saw him twitch which I was taking as a good sign.

"I'm not entirely sure Bella but we're going to someone that might know or at least be able to help us." Sam said stepping in front of me placing his hands on my shoulders in a comforting gesture.

"Why don't you go get cleaned up before we go Bells? I need to have a word with Sam," Jake didn't look at me while he spoke. Instead he glared at the side of Sam's face.

"Sure," I said skeptically. I knew Jake was pissed at Sam for something but I had no idea why. I was happy for the opportunity to get the blood that was caked in my hair out and put on actual shirt on.

I ran upstairs and quickly hopped into the shower to rinse the blood off me. When I got out of the shower I quickly looked at the scratched on my back. They had already healed almost completely, the four scratches across the length of my back. They looked more like fingernail scratches now.

I dressed quickly in my clothes from the day before since I didn't have anything else. Running back down the stairs of the small cabin I found Jake, Sam, and Quil all by the door ready to go. I reached the bottom stairs managing not to trip the whole way down.

"You ready?" Jake asked. I nodded to Jake but was looking around him to find Quil staring at me from his spot beside Sam.

"Bella…" Quil whispered like we were the only two people in the room. I went to go stand by him; he slipped his hand into mine but didn't say anything. I was sure he hadn't completely processed what was happening between us with this weird connection. To be totally honest neither had I.

"Let's get going," Sam said gruffly. He always seemed to be just a little bit angry; did he even like being Alpha? It certainly didn't seem like it.

Jake came to stand next to me but like Quil said nothing. Everyone's somber mood wasn't helping my nerves, my stomach felt like a huge bundle on knots.

We walked down Jake's street towards the beach, and no one said a word. I was about to burst I had too many questions. Sam was further ahead than the three of us so I turned to Jake.

"What's a 'Kuala Whister-'…?" I asked looking up at him.

"Qahla Wisatsu'upat, it's a bit of a mouthful. It's a Quileute word," Jake said smiling for just a second before his face turned dark again.

"What is that?" I asked again, I didn't want to push my luck but I didn't need to head into this completely unprepared. Jakes sighed and shook his head.

"Literally translated it means Sun Woman; I thought it was a myth until today. Apparently Sam's kept some things to himself." Jake explained his jaw clenched when he said Sam's name so I could assume that's what they talked about while I was upstairs.

"So…what exactly does she do?" I probed, we had reached the beach and Sam started walking down towards mine and Jake's log.

"The legend is she holds the gift of the sun in her hands. But the Quileute's believe the sun to be more than just light, it was pure life. They worshiped the sun and because of her powers they worshiped Qahla.

"She brought life the crops when they were once dead. Supposedly she can bring animals back to life as well. Anyway, she was on her deathbed and it happened to be during a time when the tribe had fallen on hardships. So the tribal Elders decided she was too precious to lose.

Apparently, the Elders made her immortal.

"But since I think we would all notice someone that just never died, I figured it was a myth. According to Sam she's real, and she's seriously over 200 years old. She's kind of decided to make herself a historian for the tribe, fitting I guess since she was probably there when everything happened. Sam thinks she might know something about what's going on with you and Quil," Jake finish.

My head was spinning, this supernatural world just got weirder the longer I stayed in it.

We had been walking down the beach for a few minutes in relative silence. Sam and Quil had little to nothing to say. Suddenly, Sam turned and started walking into the forest. We had gone maybe 25 yards in when I noticed the dirt had turned to rocks. There was a path made of rocks, right here, in the middle of the woods.

How did people not randomly find this?

"Qahla's home is protected. You can't find it unless you know you're looking for it." Sam said looking back at me as if he had heard my question. The first genuine smile I had ever seen graced his face.

"So you've been here before?" I asked jogging a bit to catch up to him; if he was willing to share I was going to listen. He looked at the ground almost like he was ashamed.

"Just once before, right after I imprinted on Emily. I was having such a horrific time dealing with the thought of losing Leah or worse losing Emily. It was tearing me up, so Billy suggested I come to Qahla for answers. I wish I would have listened to her…I have no idea why I just told you all that." Sam said straightening himself slightly.

"It's ok, I dig it. So you call her Qahla?" I asked hoping I said it right. Sam smiled yet again; he must really like this woman.

"Everyone does," Sam said smiling at the ground.

I would have kept bugging him but we had come up to a small cottage at the end of the rock trail.

Sam walked up to the door as the rest of us stayed back. The realization that I was about to enter a complete stranger's home, in the middle of the woods, who was supposed to be magical, and hundreds of years old hit me. Why is my life so weird?

Quil came to stand beside me and slipped his hand into mine.

"You ok?" he asked keeping his eyes on the cottage.

"I think so," I said mostly honestly. We walked hand in hand to the door, as we got closer I could see I small woman next to Sam. As we approached Sam turned to me and held out his arm to show me off a big smile on his face again.

"Qahla, this is Bella and Quil. They…well…we all need your help." Sam dropped his arm and turned back to her.

As we got really close I realized she wasn't that small, Sam was just gigantic. She was just a little taller than me; looking at her face I was shocked. She didn't look older than 40! I guess I was picturing this white haired bent over witch.

Qahla was the exact opposite. Her long black hair reached down to her waist, and she had the same beautiful russet skin as the boys. Looking at her face, it was nothing short of beautiful.

"Of course Sam, please come in," her voice rang with authority, not the quiet tender type I was expecting.

She held open the door and we all walked inside. Her cottage was similar to the one Quil and I spent the night in. It was small but we found room around a table she had in the dining room.

She had several chairs around the table so she was either expecting us or she entertained more guests that I thought.

She joined us at the round wooden table. It had 5 wooden chairs gathered closely around it.

Thought the table did seem to shrink a bit when she joined us, it also could have been the 3 over grown men.

"Sam, please explain," she requested turning to face him on her right. She sat across from Quil and I, with Jake and Sam on either side of her.

"It's probably best if Bella explains, everything happened to her." Sam said raising a hand in my direction. Suddenly, four sets of eyes were on me. I couldn't help but feel like Sam put me on the spot just a bit. Sam ducked his head slightly at least seeming to feel a bit guilty about it.

I looked around nervously not sure where to start. What was important? What did she already know? Was she physic?

"Bella, my name is Qahla. It's nice to meet you," she said looking at me kindly. The motherly look in her eye reminded me of Esme.

"It's nice to meet you too," I said shyly. She looked between Quil and me to our interlocked hands which rested on the table top. Quil had been making sure to touch me in some way most of the trip here. With how quiet he had been the majority of the trip here, I had a strange feeling that he was about to explode.

"You two are imprints," she said tilting her head towards our hands, it wasn't a question but still I answered.

"Yes, just last night actually," I said, was it really only last night? It felt like years ago.

"Well congratulations to you both," she said smiling proudly.

"Thank you!" Quil said sticking out his chest slightly. I rolled my eyes at him but was truly pleased to see him in high spirts for the first time today.

"Could you explain why Sam has brought you here?" she asked her face turning serious.

"It's because of this morning, something happened to Quil and it kinda happened to me too?" I explained lamely.

"Please elaborate," she requested kindly.

"I had just woken up this morning and walked down stairs when suddenly it felt like someone hit me in the face. It completely freaked me out so I called Jake," I explained the best I could.

"Why Jake instead of Quil?" she asked me. I wasn't sure if it was the question itself or the way she asked it but it ticked me off.

"I don't have Quils phone number," I quipped back at her, a bit shocked at myself. I had been acting strange all day, asking questions, not listening to people…actually, now that I thought about it, it was me. It was the old Bella, before Edward made me quiet and un-opinionated. Somehow I was finding my way back to myself.

Qahla gave me a satisfied smirk and nodded for me to continue.

"Anyway, Jake had just answered when I felt this white hot pain on my back. I don't remember much after that, I passed out. Jake was the one to find me…in a pool of blood. My blood," I elaborated dumbly.

"He found me with scratches down my back but they had already healed," I briefly thought of how crazy all of this would sound to a normal person but Qahla just took it all without batting an eye.

"Interesting," she murmured quietly.

"Well the really interesting part is that it seems Quil received the same injuries today in a fight with his brother," I said glaring at Quil from the corner of my eye, which he responded to by giving me puppy dog eyes.

Qahla sat for a moment not saying anything; she looked around the table at all of us before she began.

"Many years ago when I was just a young girl this land was under attack. I had yet to come into my powers yet so they tribe relied on the shifters to protect them." Qahla told her story slowly and with purpose, you couldn't help but listen to the story she wove for you.

"The reason the tribe was under attack was because of a very special young woman. This woman was a great warrior, she was powerful in ways that reached across all types of magic, but most importantly she was highly coveted.

"There are many names for her kind but we call her species Chepi," Qahla explained to us all.

"What?! Qahla please tell me you're joking! That's just a myth!" Sam burst out jumping up from his seat.

"Young Sam, this world is far stranger than you can even begin to wrap your head around."

"I don't understand, what does that mean?" I asked looking around.

"That's the Quileute word for fairy," Jake spoke for the first time.

"She brings peace, and light, and love to her tribe. When she is happy all those around her are as well. All who belong to her tribe succeed in every venture they meet. She is also extremely powerful, more so than any wolf," Qahla chuckled.

"But all Chepi need a tribe, a home. They can only find a true home with a supernatural species."

"Wait, you said they were under attack because of this woman," I interrupted because no one else seemed to care that the entire tribe was once at risk because of one person. I didn't want to make any assumptions but I don't think she was telling us this story for shits and giggles.

"That's right; you see fairies are unlike anything else on this earth. Powerful beyond belief but fairies do have a fault; they will die if they are without a tribe. Not just any tribe though, she must belong to a supernatural tribe. The catch is she can belong to all of the different supernatural tribes, shifters, werewolves, vampires, witches, and more. And she must be home with at least one of these beings to survive."

"Let's hold on for one second," I stood, interrupting Qahla. "I'm just going to take a wild guess and say you think I'm one of these fairy, cheppie things," I started.

"Chepi," Qahla smiled at me, she leaned back in her chair and motioned for me to continue. I was surprised she wasn't upset, I was pretty sure she was a woman who wasn't used to being interrupted.

"Right, well first off, I don't live with a supernatural creature of any kind. And up until a couple years ago I wasn't even aware of the supernatural world." I tried to reason with her, I was anything but powerful and all I did for the supernatural creatures around me was cause them more trouble than they already had.

"You take it too literally; a home is not four walls and a roof. Home is people, maybe even just one person." She smiled at me and suddenly my heart ached for Quil even though he was sitting two feet from me.

"As I was saying, fairies need supernatural beings to survive. This makes them, and the tribe they call home, vulnerable to attack. Once other supernatural creatures get wind that a fairy is around they will attempt to steal her away, by any means necessary.

"This is exactly what happened to the fairy that called the Reservation her home. The wolves tried protected her and the land from an onslaught of many magical beings," Qahla began to slow her speech toward the end of her explanation, a great weight seeming to fall on her shoulders.

"What happened?" I asked softly.

"She did not make it through the battle, although her tribe did fight for her bravely. It was a great loss for everyone but now, we have another…" She said looking at me with a wondrous hope in her eyes. Reaching over she took both of my hands in hers and squeezed lightly, she looked me dead in the eye, suddenly determination washed over her features.

"Bella, I swear to you, I will put down my own life to protect you." She promised me, but it was far from what I wanted to hear.

"Has everyone gone completely fucking insane?!"
