"They aren't leaving."

Kagome didn't even look up when Ayumi stormed over to her with Hojo at her heals. "Oh?"

"No, and they were adamant. Going on about winning a trip or some nonsense."

"Winning a trip?" Kagome glanced up finally from the map she was holding and looked past Ayumi and towards the red-haired family. "How...did they get here? There's no tour bus, no camels or jeeps."

Hojo shrugged silently. "I hadn't even thought about that."

"Well, don't waste your time thinking about it now, just focus on setting up and we can get started. The tunnels are easy to navigate and seem well off. Lights are strung through a few of them, bag some flares though just in case and set up spools at the entrance."

"Right,"

She watched the two leave back to the RV and turned her eyes back to the map when a chuckle sounded from behind her. Turning quickly, she found herself standing almost chest to chest with the guy from earlier.

"Wasn't aware that you were a raider,"

"...I'm not, and that's twice now that you've been wrong about me."

He grinned; his blue eyes sparkled humorously as he stared down at her. "That's my bad. You truly aren't a witch?"

She glanced around and frowned at how close her team was before she nodded off towards the pyramid and started walking away with him following beside her. "I'm not. I thought that was a joke, honestly."

"Not hardly...so a muggle then."

"A what?" Her eyes widened, having never even heard of this word before.

"Muggle, non-magical human."

She looked to her right where he walked beside her and shook her head, "I mean, yes, I guess I am, but I wasn't aware that there was a name for it."

"Think you could give me back my wand? Since you're a muggle, you have no need for it. Couldn't use it if you tried."

She lifted the flap of her tan messenger bag and pulled the thin stick she'd picked up from it. "This is your wand? So, what? You can produce flowers from it, pull a rabbit out of your hat?"

He frowned, "I'm not wearing a hat, however..." he gave his wand a twirl and a flick as he pointed it at a plain dangling light. Watching as it morphed into a stunning blue rose before he caught it and held it out to the girl beside him. "A beautiful rose for a desert beauty."

She felt her cheeks heat a bit and a thought suddenly struck her as she took the flower gently in hand. 'He didn't lose his memories. I wonder why...' eyeing the flower, she couldn't help but smile at the magical gesture. "Thank you. I don't think I caught your name before you passed out."

He sighed, "you know I didn't pass out. That wonky pink glow knocked me out. Ah, but my name is Bill Weasley. Call me, Bill. Mind if I ask for your name?"

"Higurashi, Kagome. Feel free to call me Kagome, I prefer it actually."

"Lovely name, Kagome."

She took a moment to take him in. His hair was long, tied back in a ponytail, there was a sharp tooth dangling from one of his ears, and scattered freckles ran subtly over the bridge of his nose and across his cheeks. He was taller than her by a head and a half, and paler too, the contrast between his skin tone and hair color was quite striking. "So," she lifted the flower, "magic. That's a thing."

"Definitely a muggle,"

"Call me by my name, or I'll have that pretty jewel knock you out again. This time, without your memories."

He frowned, "Jewel, you know what it is? So, you are a raider?"

Sighing heavily, she turned and started off back to her excavation team, "I'm not a raider, I'm an archaeologist...sort of."

"That can dispel magic?"

"...yeah."

"Kagome, we're ready for―" Hojo paused at the red head and frowned, "is this man bothering you?"

Kagome shook her head and turned to face Hojo, "carry on with Ayumi, take two others and I'll be along shortly."

He looked like he was ready to argue, but Kagome was already stepping inside the RV, turning back and motioning for the red head to follow. Ayumi walked up next to Hojo and the two stared curiously after the two before doing as they were told.

Bill looked at the RV curiously, "this is muggle transportation? A house on wheels? Curious."

"It's a camper for those who travel a lot. They work well for excavation teams. Tell me, what do you do for a living, Bill? Are you like...a Dragon Tamer or a Warlock for Hire?"

"Oh, no, no! My younger brother Charlie is the Dragon Tamer, and...I dare say I'm not a Warlock. I work as a Curse Breaker for Gringotts."

"For what?"

"Gringotts, the Wizarding Bank."

She stilled as she filled a tall glass with water, her eyes on the glass as she looked at the reflection of Bill. She wanted to laugh at the absurdity of it all, but she knew he was being serious. She could tell in the way he spoke, how delivered this tall tale and how detailed he was in its majesty. "Take me away, Bill. Your, world sounds wonderful, I beg that you take this Muggle away from her mundane life." It was said in humor, but the smirk on his lips told her he was considering it. "You mentioned that your younger brother was a Dragon Tamer? I've never seen a dragon before."

"...would you like to?"

'Now there's a thought. Would it be so bad...leaving this lackluster life behind to adventure into a fantastical world of Myth and Magic?' She reached her hand into her pocket and pulled out the jewel. "...do you know what a pure wish is? Can you think of any?" She asked, eyeing the jewel with slight contempt.

"A bit off topic, but...hm, can't say I've ever thought of wishes and such. Hard work is the only way to achieve happiness, wishing takes away the joy that comes from a job well done."

'Cute. Not realistic, but cute.' She pocketed the jewel once more and turned to Bill. "I have a job to do, if you need anything, I'll be around. I hope you and your family enjoy your trip." She left him in the RV and shook off the idea of abandoning her team for another adventure. That life was over. She knew it, and that's how she'd managed to push on after so long. Because she didn't have any expectations in life, she could continue to live...even if her life was boring.

She made the decision at that moment, not to entertain the notion of Magic or Witches and Wizards, any longer than necessary. She was, after all...a muggle.

Me: Here is chapter three of Lost in Ruins. A little bit of Bill and Kagome, but nothing over the top. Hope you enjoy, I'm going to Rewrite Dragon Tamer, which will take a sweet minute before I catch back up to Book Four. Since I was displeased with how Book Four was going and Book's One thru Three needed to be fixed up anyways, I decided to go into this headfirst. Review, and let me know your thoughts.
