Chapter 1

Prologue

I opened my eyes slowly. The movement was agonizingly slow, a feeling like wading through hard liquid, and it was barely worth it in the end. The world was blurred, colors and shapes mashed together worse than any Vincent van Gogh could have painted. But some things were recognized simply from preexisting knowledge. The fuzzy shapes was evidence in of itself.

I observed a moment longer, blinked a few times and then I closed them.

Opened them and then repeated the procedure.

After quite some time I simply sighed and accepted that nothing had changed.

The first days were confusing. I couldn't understand why it was impossible to move my limbs. Why everyone were so big. Nothing made sense.

To be honest, weeks later, everything still refused to be understood.

Though the things that did make sense... was unbelievable.

I'm not going to bother quoting Sherlock Holmes on this matter, but that doesn't mean that I won't be using the same recipe that worked for him. After all, facts piled together would be hard to deny, even for me. Things was made a bit harder by the limitations of my current genes, and it was exasperating working without a pen and paper.

Still, it would have to do. Two weeks of thinking had summarized everything into eight facts;

Fact 1: The name on my birth certificate was Nora Sampson, despite what those in my current surroundings like to say.

Fact 2: I'm a sixteen year old girl. Easy so far, right?

Fact 3: My family was normal. It consisted of one father, one mother, and one brother that could be designated into the term annoying.

Fact 4: I have concentration problems. Not the ordinary one where you have a tough time on focusing on something. The opposite actually. I concentrate too much on a single thing and forget about everything else in the process. Until I'm finished with whatever that caught my interest, I will not snap out of it.

This was an important fact. First I thought it was why I was in this predicament, but no matter how I turn and twist the whole thing, I can't see why it would matter.

Fact 5: I'm a toddler. A baby.

… This fact was hard to understand. Between a sensory overload of new skin, hunger, sleep and bowel movements, the brain should hardly be this developed. And yet here I was, a month old baby.

Fact 6: This relates more to fact 1, but I thought it deserved its own underlining. A woman who I have never seen before, I figure she gave birth to me though I couldn't remember those days that well, repeatedly calls me "Sakura-chan". Of course she says a lot more things, but it was a bit hard to understand the cooing Japanese speech in addition to lining up my mental facts.

Fact 7: That woman likes to walk. This was not surprising in of itself, but she usually takes me along for the ride. About the fifth time, when she came close enough to the mountain so that my improving eyesight could see, I saw faces etched onto it.

Four different faces, to be exact.

My... mother, still not used to thinking that, tells me stories about the brave Hokage. About giant frogs, slugs and snakes, and heroic shinobi that protects everyone.

Fact 8: This was the world of Naruto. … I'm still trying to process that actually. Surprise doesn't quite compass my feelings on this matter.

Technically, the last fact was more of a result from the other facts and observations made. I'm still half sure that its all an elaborate joke though.

If not, have I died? Am I dreaming? I don't know.

I only know that everything feels so real. A dream was usually not this long.

What should I do?

I have no clue.

I just lied there and stared at the ceiling. Listening to conversations. Not making any sound.

Hoping that I will find a way to unravel the mystery.

A/N Alright. My first fanfiction. A bit nervous actually. But don't let that fool ya. I have some experience in writing, enough to at least to know when it sucks horribly... I think.

So I would be ever so grateful for a review or two.

Oh, almost forgot! Please stay and read more. I have some planes for this one. *Smiles wickedly*

(Edit: a/n 2: The great clean-up of 2015 is now done. Chapter 1 to 20 has been edited for grammar, spelling and some additional material, but the author's notes and summaries hasn't been changed.

Old readers – you don't need to reread since the plot hasn't been altered in any major way, but it might be fun. And for new readers, congratulations, the bugs has disappeared for your enjoyment! Thank your predecessors for making me bunker down, and you all should have a thank you from myself for reading this story!)
