Max's POV

I groaned as Iggy grabbed my hands and pulled me onto the floor. Most people hadn't quite moved yet, so we were the first few on there. I stood there awkwardly as Iggy danced embarrassingly around me. I had to duck a few times as his arms swung randomly through the air. I caught a few worried looks from girls who probably generally thought he was having a stroke.

At this moment I was so glad that our costumes hid our identities. I hate on superhero movies how the superhero puts on a stupid little mask and suddenly no one knows who he is, like come on people. It's not that hard. So obviously I knew these costumes wouldn't hide our identities entirely, but I discovered that the only people who were recognising each other were people with lame costumes, and people's close friends. So luckily, I didn't have many close friends, so no one to really recognise me.

I saw Ella and Nudge close to us, beginning to awkwardly dance and more people headed to the dance floor.

I allowed Iggy to dance around me like a crazy person for one more song before I made my escape. He stuck his tongue at me as I walked away then scooted over to a group of girls dressed as cheerleaders but it wasn't long before he was dancing alone again.

Poor Iggy. Sometimes I wondered if the rejection he got from all his other peers ever got to him. It never looked like it did, but a lifetime of rejections, name calling and people thinking you are a freak had to be getting to him. I know I was in the same boat as him, but I chose to be, Iggy was alone because of who he was, and that saddened me. Iggy had never had a girlfriend, a first kiss, or anything, and it was easy to see why as I watched him try to chat up a girl with a line from Lion king and she walked away.

Sometimes I tried to ponder what it would be like if I was with Iggy, we could be loners together, but I couldn't. Iggy was just a friend and thats all it would ever be. I sat down, feeling exhausted already.

The thoughts of my nice warm bed at home was broken as Ella sat down beside me.

"Where's Nudge?" I asked and she cocked her head to the dance floor and I saw Nudge dancing with a tall brown-haired guy dressed as a vampire.

"That was fast" I said and Ella nodded. We sat there, watching everyone else on the dance floor for a while in silence. Nudge was now dancing with a blonde guy dressed as a mobster and he looked like he had just walked out from a model agency. I noticed a twinge of jealousy on Ella's face but I didn't judge her.

That was just the rules of being girl friends, having certain features your other friends were jealous of. I was jealous of Nudge's social skills and flawless skin, I wished I had Ella's face and soft nature. And I'm sure they wished they were as kick-ass and awesome as me.

"Do you ever worry about Iggy?" Ella asked and I looked over to where Iggy was doing the sprinkler and wanted to facepalm.

"Always" I said seriously, but we both laughed.

"Do you ever wonder why we don't ever have boyfriends?" Ella asked more seriously.

"No. I know. It's because we are way to awesome for silly boys who only think with their lower parts and probably think the Earth is flat" I explained and she laughed.

"So true" she agreed.

"However, I also believe boys are dumb enough to not notice pretty girls and aren't as confident as they would like to think. Whereas women are in a new era where we hold all the confidence, so technically we are the ones in control and should be asking the boys to dance" I rambled on and Ella nodded. Within a few seconds Ella was up and glided over to a hot guy dressed in a cute Harry Potter costume. If only Harry Potter had looked like that. He whisked her away into the crowd, and then there was one.

Lissa walked past me, her eyes looked me over and I saw her lips twitch into anger, almost jealousy, which made me smile smugly. She obviously didn't recognise me, or she would be over here mocking me about everything she could think of just to feel better and feed her ego.

I had been here for an hour. Ella had danced with the Harry Potter guy for 45 minutes before he ditched her. Nudge had danced with at least 9 different guys. Iggy had danced alone, and had gotten me up again twice more for two dances.

Nudge, Ella and I sat down while Iggy went to get drinks.

"Would you do me the honour?" A deep voice came from behind us.

We turned around to see Dylan Gunther standing there. He wore a Finnick costume from hunger games. My cheeks blushed, he stood there practically naked. He was bare chested with cloth woven knots similar to grass or weaves that covered his downstairs (to which I would see had short shorts over) it wrapped around his legs a bit and up his chest a small bit like branches. All in all, he should come with a "Caution: Hot" label and should be illegal at this dance.

"Do you know who I am?" Ella asked, snapping me out of my daze and I realised he was talking to her. His smile faded and he looked awkward.

"No" he sighed, about to leave.

"Works with me" she laughed, getting up with him. I was happy for her, sure Dylan was hot, but not really my type. Actually, I didn't know what my type was.

It wasn't long before another boy came over and asked Nudge to dance. This boy wore a mask and had a beanie on. He wore fingerless gloves with clothes too big and ripped jeans and skate shoes.

"A homeless guy?" Nudge asked.

"Skater boy" he laughed.

"I like it" she laughed too, getting up and leaving with him. All of the boys she had danced with had been princes, or classy looking guys, so it was nice to see a change of scenery.

Iggy came back so we drank Ella and Nudge's drinks because they had left. Iggy and I sat there, for a while and I was surprised Nudge was still with the homeless looking guy. Another half an hour went by with more crappy songs.

"Maybe it's home time" Iggy finally said. I agreed but thats because I was tired and bored, but I think Iggy's reasons were more depressing and lonely than mine.

"Do you want to dance?" A small quiet voice spoke up. Iggy had his head in one hand and played with the drink with his other fingers. I looked up to see a small girl maybe only 5'5 standing in front of us. Her dark hair was in ringlets and she wore a black mask that covered both eyes and cheek bones but swished up one side of her face and curled around to the middle of her forehead very sexy and elegant like. Here eyes were a piercing blue and she looked shy. She wore a long yet sexy black dress that clung to her in all the right places, showing off her obviously nice sized breasts. I wondered why I had never noticed her before, she was obviously someone popular most guys would loose more brain cells over. But still she looked shy which surprised me. I kicked Iggy under the table and he looked up.

"You talking to me?" he asked rudely but I knew it was only in surprise of being asked.

"Of course" She said like there was no one else she would rather ask.

"Who are you supposed to be?" He asked as if she had to pass his test first.

"No one. Everyone. Wear a black dress and you can be whoever you want. A rebel princess. The girl from swan lake. An evil queen" she said all philosophical like. Iggy grinned and followed her onto the floor, even though he was a head taller than her. Now it was just me, myself and I. How boring.

I finished the rest of my drink and Iggy's then considered leaving. Ella, Nudge and Iggy would understand.

"Want to dance?" A soft voice came from behind me and I turned to see wild black eyes looking at me.
