War Games

"Pull back!" Jacob yelled to his team as another projectile flew past his head. He led them behind a group of trees, keeping his weapon at the ready in case of an ambush. The enemy was quickly approaching, they were running out of ammo, and somewhere along the way he'd lost track of a member of his team. Things were not looking good but he refused to allow his concern to show. He was a colonel, after all. With a decisive nod, he turned to his XO. "Mitchell, how're we doin' on ammo?"

"Not good, sir." Tyler shook his head and pointed to their quickly dwindling cache. "I doubt we'll be able to hold this position for long."

"Ideas?"

"Run?" Matthew said with a shrug and a smirk.

"Anything helpful?" Jacob rolled his eyes.

"Run quickly?" the young lieutenant responded.

"Captain Jackson?" Jacob turned to his tech expert, ignoring the newest member of his team. There was always one in every group.

"I think I have the necessary equipment to build a low-impact explosive." Lilah told him in all seriousness. "I just need time and some way to deliver it."

"Leave that to me," came a voice from above.

"Where the heck have you been, Rhen?" Jacob angrily whispered when he spied his wayward team member in a tree.

"I was trying to get a handle on the situation. You can thank me later." She smirked and jumped lithely from her position before continuing. "The rebels brought in outside assistance, a Jaffa. He replenished their ammunition and now they're trying to flank us."

"Crap." Jacob grunted at the news. "All right, I assume you have a plan."

"Of course." Rhen only shook her head at the ridiculous question. "Lilah and I will hold this position for as long as it takes to build her device, then you boys can create a diversion so I can deliver it. Try to make them converge on one spot so I can drop the explosive where it will cause the most damage."

Jacob mulled it over for a moment. It was ridiculous, dangerous, and probably the best plan he'd heard yet. Crap. "Okay, let's go for it. Mitchell, Jackson, you're with me. You two do what needs to be done, but be quick about it. The rebels aren't idiots."

"Yes, sir." Rhen saluted with another smirk.

Jacob merely raised an impatient eyebrow at his intractable team mate then turned to the others. "Jackson, you take the path leading from the woods. Mitchell, you take the one by the cabin. I'll take the lake. Let's get them to meet in the centre. Got it?"

"Yes, sir." They saluted and stealthily made their way to their assigned sectors.

"Signal when you're ready." Jacob ordered her.

"Ya, sure, ya betcha." Rhen laughed when he only rolled his eyes at her before moving off. She turned to her twin. "How long do you need?"

"A couple more minutes." Lilah told her, never taking her eyes from the object in her hands. "Do you have a candy wrapper on you?

"Sure." Rhen handed over the seemingly innocuous item and looked on in admiration as her sister manoeuvred them into a crazy looking device. To the untrained eye, it looked like junk but Rhen knew better and she grinned in anticipation. Those rebels were toast.

"Done." Lilah exclaimed with her own smile, handing over the device. "The red button on the side activates it. You'll have exactly 13 seconds to get out of the way. Good luck."

"Who needs it?" Rhen snorted confidently, stowing the device in her pack and checking on her weapon before climbing back up into the trees. She scanned the area carefully, wanting to know where each of the rebels were before she gave the signal. There may only be four of them but one could never be too vigilant. Counting them out in her head, she smiled mischievously before giving the signal then watched on in amusement as the boys started running, carful to make their patterns look random. The rebels seemed unsure but, after a moment, the leader shrugged and motioned for them to engage. Rhen winked down at her sister before making her move. She stayed in the canopy of trees for as long as possible, only dropping to the ground when she was certain no one would notice her. Ammo flew overhead as she crawled on her belly, stopping intermittently to make sure her approach had gone unnoticed. When she finally reached the drop-point, she only took a moment to revel in her victory before signalling for the others to converge. Rhen waited patiently for the perfect moment to activate the explosive. Finally, she saw her opening, pressing the button and scurrying away in one fluid motion. Just as she reached zero in her mental countdown, the device let out a loud pop and she grinned. Lilah was nothing if not accurate. For the next few minutes, the battlefield was filled with the surprised yells of the rebels and rapid weapons-fire before everything fell eerily silent...

Sam, Vala, and Caro all heard the commotion as they pulled up in front of the cabin and slowly made their way toward the lake. They didn't even attempt to hide their amusement at the scene before them. Jack, Daniel, Cam, and Teal'c were kneeling on the ground, hands behind their heads and covered in multi-coloured paint while the kids aimed paintball guns at them.

"Lost again, I see." Vala shouted, causing the men to turn their collective glare on them.

The women simply laughed and moved into the house, leaving the men at the mercy of their children.
