Just a short oneshot, because this pairing needs more love.
She loves him.
Right at the moment she grabs his calloused hands and rests them on her stomach, letting him feel the child growing in her kick gently. Right at the moment his face is caught in an amusing cross between a grimace and a smile. Right at the moment he asks her whether it hurts.
It's beautiful and perfect and she's never loved anyone so much as him right then.
But she knows that every beat of her heart draws her so much nearer to death, that the next breath she takes might very well be her last. And it's so frustrating that she just wants to cry and punch Reborn in the face for making her feel like this. Damn hormones.
Still, she can't help what he makes her feel. He's a mess of contradictions, Luce's well aware that he's killed more than he'll ever tell her but the way he once slid on the floor to soften her landing when she fell shows her much more than he'll ever realize. It's that part of Reborn that Luce finds dear, the side that's unused to babies, pregnant woman and chocolate chip cookies. And she wishes that they could've met in another life, that their futureāno, his future wouldn't be so sad.
A part of her thinks she might be able to prevent it, that she might yet save all of the arcobalenos. But Luce knows better than to go against it and she hates herself for it.
She still finds it stupid though. That they love each other but she'll never tell him and he'll never tell her. It's ridiculous but Luce supposes that love and life are ridiculous.
In the end, even if she'll never see her child grow up, even if she wished she could have any other life but this, Luce's happy that at the very least, she met and loved Reborn.
She's not very sure, but when her time comes, Luce thinks that she'll die happy. It's the least she could do for Reborn after all.
~fin~
Sorry for being gone for so long, I'm 3/4 thorugh Sawada Cafe's next chp. I suck with the current pairing and I'm having trouble writing it.
