It was times like today when Audrey wished she still had a best friend to talk with as she got ready for her first date since high school. Audrey sat in front of her restored antique vanity applying her make-up thinking of sitting in her dorm with Darlene helping her get ready for a date. She knew if her best friend was still with her today she would have drove down from Washington, putting her whole life on hold, just to be there as emotional support for Audrey's date. Audrey sighed softly as she set down her powder brush and stared at herself in the mirror. Coming back to Beacon Hills had turned out to be the opposite of what she expected, her little brother was always up to something, weird shit was happening all the time, and she was probably never going to be prepared mentally to deal with the shit storm Derek caused her emotions to go through. Derek Hale was a parasite that and dug its way into her mind and refused to give back control. Audrey tried to shake thoughts of the handsome man as she rubbed the primer over her eyelids.
Right now she wished for nothing more than Darlene to be there with her so she could spill her guts about the feelings she had for Derek and get some friendly female advice in return. She knew that her mom was always there to talk to but last time Audrey tried her mom but she was always in a rush and just handed her a small square foiled wrapper and told her to be safe. Audrey did not know if she should be upset or laugh. It was a kind gesture coming from her busy mother, Audrey knew that her mother was worried about making her feel like a child and having a sex talk with her college-aged daughter would be belittling so she took the easy route. Audrey's last and even more painful path of advice was trying to talk to her little brother about her feelings. All that produced was a lecture from Scott telling her about Derek was not a good guy and once Audrey was able to try to talk to him about her date with a guy named Peter in order to get over Derek she was confused there was no rebuttal until she saw that Scott had fallen asleep and was already drooling on his pillow.
Audrey was feeling lonely to say the least, she was almost eager to be going out with Peter just for the sake of leaving the house for something besides work but the enthusiasm she felt was diluted by the guilt she felt for going out on a date with a man that was not Derek Hale. Audrey could curse up and down every day all week about how much she hated Derek S. Hale but she could not change the way she felt her feelings were not of her own control or anybody else's for that matter and there was nothing she could do about it but mope. She would never and very nearly couldn't for the sake of her own heartache, admit it but she was more hurt by the quick end of her brief romance with Derek than she dare let on.
Audrey was on her fourth mixed beverage as Peter continued to ramble on about himself, a topic of which Audrey had come to find was Peter's favorite thing to talk about. Audrey was polite enough to smile and add a little affirmative 'uh huh' as he talked and gave little nods to show she was paying attention but she was waiting for this date to come to an end. She felt content that she had tried to make this work but now it was time to call it a night and head home. Audrey expressed her keenness to go home by trying to cover up a small polite yawn.
"It is getting late isn't it?" Peter asked with a small smile on his face that almost looked malicious. Audrey nodded as she softly smiled the corners of her mouth barely turning up.
"Sorry I'm not used to staying up this late anymore." Peter rose and put his jacket around her shoulders. Audrey was slightly confused and not cold but she held the lapels of the jacket to keep it from slouching off of her shoulders so to not offend him by rejecting his kind gesture.
"Let's get you home then. Wouldn't want you falling asleep on me." Audrey rose with a nod and walked with Peter to his car in the restaurants parking lot. She got into the car silently and watched the trees past by the window as he drove her home.
"Scott's probably staying up late waiting for you to come home. You did tell him you were out on a date did you not?" Audrey gave a small non-committal shrug.
"I told him not sure he was listening. He's been pretty worn out lately with lacrosse and school."
"So for all you know he could be looking for you at this very moment."
"Well I'd like to think he'd call me first."
"You know the irrationality of teenage boys, always doing things for no reason, stirring the pot as they say." Audrey unbuckled as Peter pressed the brake making the car come to a stop in front of her driveway.
"Scott's not like that, he's pretty level headed and he's a good person." Peter just gave Audrey another smile that reeked of false pleasantries.
"So Audrey I had a good time tonight, would you like to get together again?" Audrey mentally filed through different excuses to make, should she take him up on his offer, or should she let him down, which led to letting him down easy or be rude and final about it.
"I had a nice time tonight Peter but I'm not ready for a relationship and I don't want to lead you on." Audrey felt like she was lying she was ready for a relationship but only if that relationship was with Derek. Peter nodded solemnly.
"I understand, my loss. Thank you for giving me a chance though." Audrey smiled as she stepped out of his car leaving his jacket behind.
"Of course. Good-night Peter."
"Good-night Audrey." Audrey walked up to the front door of her house and listened as Peter's car continued down the road. She was just about to open the door when it slammed open sending her falling backwards her backside landing on the concrete stoop. Audrey looked up confused at her little brother as he looked at her with wild eyes she could have sworn flashed yellow.
"Audrey?!" Scott spoke her name frantically.
"Yes that's me, can you help me up? My ass would thank you." Audrey yelped unexpectedly as Scott yanked her up by her arm unceremoniously and started looking her over his nose moving rapidly.
"Scott McCall, are you sniffing me?!" she asked perturbed by her brother's strange behavior.
"Where were you Audrey?" Scott spoke quickly ignoring Audrey's question.
"I was out on a date if you must know." She spoke with an air indignity wanting to guilt Scott because of the way he was acting.
"With Peter?" Scott asked Audrey scrunched her eyebrows together.
"Yes, but know did you know that."
"You're not allowed to ever see him again, do you understand me?" At the end of Scott's statement Audrey was well on her way to becoming livid.
"Excuse me Scott, I am your older sister and you will not be telling me what to do. I have a life and I do whatever I damn well please now get out of my way."
"He went on a date with mom and he's Derek's uncle!" Scott spoke quickly and Audrey nearly physically reeled back by the knowledge that was given to her. She stood still for a few moments and tried to decide which was more disturbing. Going on a date with the same man your mother went on a date with or going on a date with the uncle of the guy you were quite possibly in love with.
"Truce." Audrey spoke quietly as she walked down the front steps away from the house.
"Audrey where are you going?" Scott asked as he quickly followed her down the steps.
"It's late you can't just go walking around by yourself, do you know how dangerous that is?" Audrey didn't say a word but held her hand in front of Scott's mouth to forbid him from talking.
"I need some space, I have my phone and my pepper spray with me. Just please go back inside." Scott stood still visibly frustrated not knowing whether to follow his sister or not as her figure slowly shrank as she walked further away.
Audrey didn't know where she was walking and after a while she forgot how long she had been walking. She had been texting Scott about every fifteen minutes telling him she was fine with the simply reply of 'Still alive' which had quickly been shortened to 'Alive'. Audrey was thoroughly disturbed from the sudden appearance of Peter in her life. He went on a date with her mom, he obviously had some weird sick fetish for the women of the McCall family. But the bigger bomb that Scott dropped on her; Peter was Derek's uncle. Suddenly Audrey felt like she was the sick one. She was the one that had relations with the two Hale men. She was beginning to feel like her and Peter were two peas in the on twisted pod of keeping it in the family. Audrey looked up from the ground where she was watching her feet as a way to keep her from following over as she berated herself during her walk. She had absolutely no idea where she was and the only thing she registered was that there was a door in front of her. Against her better judgment Audrey softly knocked on the metal door in front of her, her teeth gently pressed against her bottom lip as she was overcome with a sudden nervous feeling in her gut. Audrey could feel her eyes widen as the door slid open and a shirtless Derek appeared. She watched as the emotions showing visibly on his face changed from that of anger to that of confusion. Audrey arched a manicured eyebrow as his nose twitched.
"Are you sniffing me?" Audrey could just lay down and die at this moment. She hadn't seen Derek for weeks and her first spoken words to him were to question if he was smelling her. Audrey quickly sent up a quiet prayer to whoever was listening that her shower and application of deodorant before her date was lasting through her walk. Audrey just watched him as he looked at her with curious eyes.
"You're dressed nice, were you out on a date?" For Derek this was his way of confirming what he already knew. Peter was once again dicking around in Derek's life. Derek clenched his jaw as he silently hope that Peter wasn't literally using his dick to fuck with Derek in the terms of Audrey.
"Yupp." Audrey confirmed as she nodded ending the word with a popping sound.
"Well I know it wasn't with me, so why are you here." Audrey sighed as she shrug her shoulders.
"I don't know, I don't even know where he is. I got home and Scott told me the most embarrassing news of my life and then I went on a walk and ended up here, wherever here is." Audrey frowned anticipating the command of Derek telling her to leave. That she wasn't welcomed in his presence and confirming to her that she hasn't been for a while. Derek opened the door wider and stepped out of the way as Audrey just stared her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Are you coming inside or just going to stand there and stare at me?" Audrey felt the blush flame across the apple of her cheeks as she swiftly stepped into Derek's loft. She could feel the anticipation in her spine as she walked straight and rigid. She felt as if the future and all its possible consequences were weighing heavy on her shoulders. The words spoken between her and Derek would quite possibly decide their futures. Audrey registered the closing of the door behind her and the approaching heat of Derek's body. The future would be made in seconds with just the use of words, she hoped.
