Dean drove the Impala along the dark back roads, the familiar hum of the engine soothing him. Every hunt took a little bit more out of him, and sometimes he had to just drive to get away from it all. Sometimes he just had to be alone, music blasting and road disappearing beneath the Impala's wheels.
The sudden appearance of Cas in the passenger seat startled Dean, who flinched away, jerking the wheel and causing the car to swerve across the center line. "Damn it, Cas, don't do that," he swore as he straightened the wheel.
"I apologize," the angel intoned. He stared straight at Dean in that direct way of his, eyes probing Dean's face.
Dean glanced back at him from the corner of his eye, blue eyes holding green, before flicking his gaze back to the road. Clearing his throat and shifting a bit uncomfortably, he asked, "So, what do you need?"
Cas was silent for a few moments, staring out the window at the midnight sky. The smallest hint of a smile flitted across his face as he pointed through the windshield and said, "Look."
Dean ducked forward to see what Cas was pointing at. In the sky above, a point of light streaked down across the heavens, leaving a faint trail of light in its wake. Another followed after it, and another. Each streak lasted just a few seconds before dying out over the horizon. Pulling over to the shoulder of the road, Dean got out of the car, marveling at the sight. He sat down on the hood of the Impala, face turned skyward as he watched the lightshow overhead.
Watching Dean's awed face, Cas moved to sit next to him, their shoulders lightly brushing. "It's beautiful," Dean whispered.
The corners of Cas' mouth tugged upward in a small smile. "I'm glad you like it," he replied, gazing heavenward at his creation. Finally looking away from the light-streaked sky, Dean turned his eyes to Cas, eyebrows furrowed. Noticing the confused expression directed toward him, the angel told Dean, "I made it for you."
The hunter's eyes widened and he scanned the stars again, mesmerized by the meteors that Cas made fall across the sky for him. Dean smiled, shifted his eyes back to the angel beside him, who was studying him.
Dean slid his hand around Cas', leaning more into his side. And there they sat, watching the stars fall just for them.
