Alice hated the time that her nurses called Christmas. The colors of green and red floated around the ward at every corner. More of the colors filled the halls with each passing day and more people walked about the halls than normal. People she had never seen and colors she always feared. It was nerve wracking time and it filled her with dread every time she heard the word Christmas.

Everyday her nurse would take her and the man who shared her room on a walk. Everyday of the Christmas season Alice would cling to the man's arm and bury her head into his shoulder. Had the nurses not noticed that it was these colors that plagued her dreams for as long as she could remember? Today the lights would flash on and off as she walked passed them. She grasped the mans arm tighter, closing her eyes even harder. The lights chased her even when she closed her eyes so much.

The man wrapped an arm around her waist and puller her closer to him. The move seemed instinctive and the glaring lights went away for a moment. She opened her eyes and looked up at the man she was currently clinging to. She wished she knew where she had met this man. She wished she knew his name and why he was able to drive off the lights. She had woken up many times to find she had wandered to his bed in the middle of the night to stop the lights in her nightmares. Was it possible that he could drive off the lights in real life as well?

His power wore off the minute she started to worry about the lights again. They flashed and blinded her. Once more she closed her eyes and buried her head in the man's shoulder as they were led back to their room. The room free of the dreaded colors. The room was safe. When they entered their room again and were closed off from the lights she continued to hold on to the man. He held her as well until she forgot why she was clinging to him.

They moved to lay in their beds. The man drifted off to sleep instantly, but Alice stared up at the ceiling. Why was it that the lights plagued her so? Why did the green and red colors fill her with unreasonable fear and dread. Alice didn't know, she could only guess. Perhaps, she thought, perhaps the lights stole her life.
