Waiting Up
For the fiftieth time in the last five minutes, Harry checked his watch. It was exactly thirty two seconds later than it had been the last time he looked. The common room was still deserted. Ginny was late. Very late. And that was unusual.
Hearing a squeak behind him, Harry jumped up and spun around, heart fluttering with anticipation. His face fell when he spotted Dobby, head piled high with Hermione's atrocious hats. "Master Harry Potter, sir!" squeaked the elf. "Dobby didn't mean to disturb you, sir!"
Harry smiled tiredly. "Have you seen Ginny anywhere?" he asked.
"My guess is she is in bed, sir, like you should be at this time of the night!" the small creature scolded, waggling his finger at Harry. Then suddenly he stood up very straight, eyes wide, evidently shocked with himself. He fixed Harry with a worried gaze. "Dobby did not mean to offend the great Harry Potter, sir!" he exclaimed, covering his mouth.
Harry laughed and shook his head. "No, Dobby, you're right. I should be asleep."
The small elf gave Harry a gracious bow and backed out of the room, those ridiculous hats wobbling like crazy. Harry settled back down to wait.
He had all but given up on the idea of meeting Ginny and turned to begin the climb up the stairs back to his dorm when she came racing into the common room, cheeks flushed, furiously rubbing sleep from her eyes. Even in her half-asleep state, Harry decided she was beautiful.
"Harry!" she whisper-shouted. "I'm so sorry! I only closed my eyes for a second, and I fell asleep!"
Harry silenced her with a swift kiss, and, grinning happily, threw the cloak over them both, before leading her towards the portrait hole. They made their silent way along the corridors and breathed a joint sigh of relief when they finally made it to the roof of the astronomy tower undetected. Here they sat, snuggled together, until the sun began peeking over the horizon, just watching the stars and talking about anything and absolutely everything. As the first rays of the sun began to warm Harry's face, he took Ginny in his arms and their lips met for the first real kiss they had ever shared.
The moment was perfect, and Harry just wanted to freeze time and stay here forever.
