Chapter 10: Dance Party - LawLu

It...was finally time for the high school dance party.

Otherwise known as the most disastrous time of the year.

This unfortunate occurred in late spring, a time known for losing love, and the beginning of summer drama. A terrible time for such a social and romantically involved event such as a dance party. Include a large selection of underage drunk teenagers in the craziest school in town along with student delinquents with criminal records and you've got yourself a load of hell. Not to mention the fact that a few there have murdered.

Just saying.

And to make matters even worse (could it get even worse?) two of the most dangerous men in the school, who also happened to be childhood friends and long termed rivals, had their eyes on one oblivious girl who couldn't care less about love.

I'm afraid you already know who the girl is without me telling you, so I guess we should skip her and go straight into introducing the two men.

One had been a guy name Kidd.

You'd expect that any guy who was named Kidd to be a nice, dorky guy with glasses and a big smile. Maybe even be nice to kids. Well, if you thought that, you'd be wrong. He was red-haired, goth, tall, had a crazy obsession with machines, and gave a mean glare at anyone who looked at him funny. Yep, described Kidd pretty well.

How he managed to fall in love with Luffy out of all the other girls out there? Who knows. Though there were some pretty crazy rumors going on about a slave auction and giant robot bears around there somewhere, so I don't think you'd want to know about that story.

And if you don't want to know that story, you definitely wouldn't want to know how Trafalgar Law fell for Luffy and how Luffy then fell for Law despite how unperceptive and idiotic she could be. That story would be too strange for words, and the rumors about their sudden interest in each other revolved around a mermaid, a fight with a gassy clown, and a trip to save a flaming chicken that had gone terribly wrong.

Well, back to the point, the couple was about to go to the dance that night, and neither would realize what a big mistake it was to go there.

They would definitely regret it.

...

Or at least question their sanity...

7:26p.m. and Law was in a tuxedo, outside of Luffy's house.

He opened the door...

And then...

Wow...

Wow...

Wow.

That was all that would run through Law's brain as he looked at Luffy. And it just kept on repeating over and over again.

Wow.

She was gorgeous, completed with make up, flowing dress and everything Law had only dreamed about.

It had finally become reality...Luffy had finally dressed like a girl.

Law would remember to thank Nami and Robin later for their help in Luffy's makeup and clothes. Without them, Luffy wouldn't have been able to look like...that. He could already imagine the long hours of dragging Luffy to the mall and forcing her to try on dresses while she munched on meat and complained loudly on how much she missed her vests and t-shirts.

Law chuckled.

Don't get him wrong, Luffy looked good before...but the reason he had liked her wasn't for her looks, he liked her for how fun she was and how she wasn't doing the things she did to impress him or to seem cool, but she had done everything with honest feelings and didn't care about what others thought of her. Her personality attracted people and he wanted to be close with her to see what she would do next...to study her.

Though to his surprise, everything she did was unexpected and before he knew it, he realized he liked her...and bang! After that event with the mermaid, the flaming chicken (whom they unfortunately had not been able to save), and the long fight they had with a gassy clown, they finally began to go out.

At first, he didn't think much of her looks, but damn...she was...

Wow.

He must have looked retarded...

But she was just so...

Wow.

Her shoulder length hair seemed longer than usual, cascading down her shoulders and her dress that seemed to...ugh. Oh who cares about the details, the point was, she was beautiful and perfectly girly for the dance and sparkles seemed to be flying everywhere. He knew she was the one for him. Listen to his gut, he told himself. Or in that particular case, he should listen to the thing between his legs. He was definitely liking this.

"Are you okay, Law?"

Law blinked, and then he realized he had been standing there staring at his girlfriend for 5 minutes straight with his mouth open, looking at her up and down with his hands raised in mid-air like he was about to touch her but was too afraid to because he thought that if he did, the dream-like image in front of him would fade away far in the depths of his imagination.

Closing his mouth with a pop and coughing awkwardly, Law said, "I'm fine...shall we go now?"

"Yea! Let's go! " Luffy said with a big grin, picking up her dress as she began to exit the house. Just as she stepped onto the porch, she stopped and turned back to call, "Ace! Sabo! I'm going now! See you guys later!"

The only reply had been a muffled scream from a tied up Ace, and a single call of, "Okay, have fun." from Sabo, who looked like he was practicing bondage with the freckled brother of his.

Sure, it sounded strange, but Law knew that something like that was a normal occurrence in the D. family, so he gave the two brothers a polite nod before he closed the door behind him, ignoring Ace's screams of despair.

He chuckled. The things Sabo had to do to restrain Ace was...how should he say this...unbelievable? He wasn't sure who was crazier...Ace, the man who had threatened to kill him several times, or Sabo, the only man who could restrain the psychopath...(well, no one can restrain Ace...but at least Sabo can hold Ace off for a few minutes.)

No wait...they still were not as crazy as their little sister...Luffy clearly won the title of crazy.

Law remembered back to when they had gone to a farm two years ago and a chicken had caught on fire. When Luffy saw it, she ran straight towards the burning poultry, insisting the the chicken was Ace and that Ace was dying.

He had desperately tried to pull Luffy back, but the girl jumped on the bird and started to bite the creature, like doing that would somehow stop the burning.

Just after 2 minutes of trying to pull Luffy off the chicken, the bird fell to the ground, burnt and dead, and Luffy sat on the ground crying and slamming the ground.

"No...I wasn't strong enough, Ace...I let you down..." She had cried, snot dripping out of her nostrils.

And then after that, Law had to fix the burn wounds she got on her arms and offered to carry her back home...During that period of time, this happened, and that happened...thus, they began to go out.

Thinking about it now, he grinned at those memories. That was how he had gotten to know Luffy, and without that day, he probably wouldn't have been dating her...

Back into the present, Law turned back to look at his date stumbling to his car and his smile started to fade. A thought had just struck him...Luffy typically didn't wear dresses...and she wasn't used to such outfits. Nor was she used to high heels. As sweat began to form on his forehead, he began to warn Luffy, but he was already too late.

Luffy tripped over her dress.

But then she got up.

Only to trip over her dress again.

...

Law sighed as he went to go help her up.

He knew it was going to be a long night.

And it just had barely started.

8:00p.m.

The party literally just began...and Eustass Kidd was already lost in a sea of people on the dance floor.

Let me emphasize that Kidd was on the dance floor...Kidd did not belong on the dance floor. NEVER LET KIDD ON TO THE DANCE FLOOR. No, you don't understand the terrible meaning of this. The mere thought of this would render most people speechless. It was not just that Kidd would look absolutely horrible as he swung his awkwardly tall body around, rolled his hips, and twerked, but it just didn't fit his image. He looked like the kind of guy who would lean against the wall and try to look cool.

But mind you, it was not the poor guy's fault. It was simply the work of nature...the nature of drunk high school students. Kidd never saw it coming. It had been a big mistake when he had ventured too close to the dancers and he been pulled in by the wave of drunk people. His friends had tried to warn him, called for him, and tried pulling him out, but it was no use. Nature had already started to work its course...so with one last helpless whine, he disappeared into the endless crowd.

Seeing this, his friends immediately lost all hope and they sat on the side crying for the lost of their delinquent leader, for they knew that once someone entered the dance floor, the would never come out the same again...and so there Kidd was, standing in the middle of hundreds of students, lost, angry and confused.

"WHERE THE HELL IS THE EXIT! WHERE IS LAWWW!" He roared helplessly as he pushed yet another couple out of his way. Though surprisingly, nobody dared to talk with Kidd, or even glance at him. The loud disruption of his roars didn't go unnoticed, but people would prefer not to look at Kidd funny, god knows what would happen to them if they did. The last person to look Kidd in the eye (other than Law and Luffy of course) had gone to the hospital.

The drunk students knew what was good for them. So they all continued dancing as the red-head trampled through the crowded room swearing like a sailor about the lateness of his Law and Law's date.

Luckily as he was screaming, he bumped into someone, and he heard a small and girly scream. He turned and he saw a girl sprawled on the ground, cupping something in her hand protectively. The girl began to get up and he watched, with sweat dripping down his face, as she tripped over and over again on her dress before she finally managed to stand, though Kidd couldn't help but notice that her legs were wide open as she walked and her back was hunched like an old man. Kidd had seen that tomboyish posture somewhere before...

Wait...could it be...

"Monkey girl..." Kidd said in surprise, and before he knew it, a pair of dark eyes turned to him and he began to feel heat in his ears. This was not normal. Not normal at all. The Eustass Kidd. The same guy who had nearly murdered at teacher last year could not even look at Luffy without blushing in the shade of his hair. Something was wrong with him. Severely wrong with him.

"Oh, red guy." Luffy said blinking as she bit into a chicken leg, "What are you doing here..." She motioned around her, "...on the dance floor...?"

This was unbelievable...even Luffy couldn't imagine Kidd dancing...Shaking his head, Kidd looked away from her and sighed, "Please don't ask, it's a long story. Anyway, where's Law?"

There was silence.

And then a chicken leg rolled on the floor.

"Oh crap! I lost Law!" Luffy shouted, like it had just occurred to her that she was missing her boyfriend.

Kidd's mouth dropped open. Though for some reason, the only thought that crossed his mind was that the school's food table didn't even have chicken legs and for a split second, he wondered where Luffy got the leg of meat.

"Your chicken leg...where did you...Wait no, that's not the point...You lost Law?"

She nodded and then bent down to pick the chicken leg up again. "Yea, I guess he went to get some food or something...Come to think of it, he flashed me a really strange expression when he stepped onto the dance floor. It was almost like the dance floor was pulling him in against his will...Strange huh?"

"Yes...strange indeed." Kidd muttered dryly.

Luffy wiped her chicken leg clean and bit into it again. Kidd cringed. Her disgusting habits hadn't changed at all. Even though she looked pretty, she was still a total slob...which he couldn't completely judge as a bad point since it was interesting, but it wasn't particularly charming either...

"Well anyway." Luffy said in the middle of a bite, "Wanna hang out with me until we find Law?" She gave him an innocent smile.

Kidd squirmed under the gaze. "Sure." he nodded, glad that the darkness of the school auditorium covered most of his heavy blush, "But first we'll have to get out of here."

"Hm...why? It was just getting goo-" Before Luffy could finish her sentence, her hand was grabbed and she was roughly pulled along by Kidd.

Inside, Kidd was almost squealing in excitement, but of course that side of him was hidden and you could only see a small and creepy smile appear on his face as he began to move through the crowds, holding Luffy's hand.

Oh this was going to be good.

8:00p.m.

The party had barely started and Trafalgar Law was already lost in the sea of people on the dance floor.

On the dance floor...

Law did not belong on the dance floor, and he knew that he didn't.

This fact was already evident, seeing how his body was as stiff as a log and his hands twitched slightly as he stood there, elbowed occasionally by someone who danced a bit too close. The stoic teen sucked a quick intake a breath. Even though it was almost impossible to see his shadowed face in that lighting, there was no doubt that there was a blank expression on it as a single thought crossed his mind.

"Where am I?"

A bead of sweat dripped down his face. This was the worst possible situation. He was lost, hungry, tired, and girlfriendless. What had he done to deserve this? All he did was wander a tad too close to the dance floor and before he knew it, he had been sucked into the crowd, getting one last glance at Luffy's face before all he could see was darkness and the faint purplish lights from the ceiling.

This was a new thing for him.

The thought of being on the dance floor had never occurred to him so far in his life, and for once, he was speechless. He imagined himself dancing, shaking his hips, pole dancing and several other slightly inappropriate dances, but the images were all too horrible to think about and he shook the thoughts away. He would be having nightmares about that for days.

But another thought crossed his mind...Kidd dancing. This time Law violently shivered and gagged, wishing there was something hard he could bang his forehead with to forget that nasty thought. Kidd dancing was probably even worse than imagining himself dancing. The image of Kidd, awkwardly air-humping with absolutely no expression flashed in his mind again and Law cried out in pain.

'No. HAPPY THOUGHTS. HAPPY THOUGHTS.'

He needed something...no, anything to get his mind away from that slightly gay topic. Oh yes, His girlfriend. Yes, good, much better. The new image of Luffy popped in his head and with some effort, Law snapped out of the dark spell and with one last shudder, he pushed through the dancing people in the crowd and continued on his way to find an exit.

From afar, he could hear the distinct sounds of Kidd screaming and he began to work his way towards the sound. The thoughts of Kidd dancing still lingered, but at least he would have someone to be lost with.

Maybe he could even tell Kidd about his thoughts on this strange experience and they could have a good laugh about it.

Yea, sounds good.

Perhaps the disgusted feeling would be mutual.

It was only 8:05 p.m., but Sabo was devastated. Absolutely devastated.

The party was only just getting started...but Sabo was trapped in the middle of the dance floor with Ace standing next to him, wondering to himself just how pitiful he was to have a such stupid brother.

He decided that he was very pitiful and deserved every ounce of empathy people gave him, but at least he knew he had put up a good fight moments before when Ace had proposed that the two of them could go to the dance and...watch over Luffy as good and protective brothers so that she would be safe among the drunks at her school.

Sabo had already known what was coming and braced himself, momentarily breaking free of Ace's control long enough to have argued that they were already in college and didn't belong at the high school party, adding with a tone of accusation that hinted he was still angry at Ace for his carelessness last chapter. But Sabo knew that arguing was already useless on Ace. His freckled brother was already back in control despite his overall stupidity. And with one pleading look, Sabo had caved in.

Yes, Sabo had once again fallen victim to the famous D family puppy dog eyes.

Also known to Sabo as the "Sharindog."

The eye technique had started long ago with a man named Madara D. Uchiha, but as the years went by, it was slowly passed down, from Garp, to Ace, and then to Luffy. His family was very infuriating. The eye technique they had was always used to let the user get what they want, and Ace had long ago perfected it, while Luffy had begun learning it after Ace had killed the rest of the clan and-wait that was naruto, never mind, but anyway, the puppy dog eyes were famous in the family and everyone but Sabo knew how to use it.

This time, Ace had cleverly used it on Sabo, turning his teary and large dewy dark eyes on Sabo, pleading and begging Sabo on his knees to come with him. Sabo was too soft on Ace. He had agreed, feeling a bit guilty of rejecting his brother's request so many times, well at least before Ace squealed with joy, hugged him and turned around, going back to obsess over Luffy. And that was the moment where the spell of the puppy dog eyes wore off and Sabo stood there, feeling cheated about that eye technique.

Portgas D. Ace was definitely sly. Too sly. Under that idiotic mask was probably a calculating man who plotted to do anything for his goals. Sabo was slightly scared of his brother. He never knew when the freckled boy was going to pull something on him that he wouldn't realize until much later.

Sabo shivered again wanting to leave and wishing that he would have enough will to reject Ace properly just once. He didn't even know why Ace brought him along on all his failed schemes. Ace ended up doing everything alone anyway...wait...but what if Ace was using him to do something he didn't know about. No...Ace wouldn't do that...would he?

He sneaked a look at Ace. Ace turned and flashed Sabo a smile before going back to look for Luffy. Sabo's blood froze. That smile had been unsettling.

..no way...could Ace really...?

Sabo left the thought unfinished.

He was too afraid of how that thought would end.

Finding Kidd wasn't hard. He was so much taller than the other kids and the blazing red hair was a dead giveaway. It was just getting to him that was hard. Law used as much effort as he could to squeeze past people, pushing, shoving, and sneaking in under feet, not minding the screams of girls in short dresses as they kicked him and called him a pervert for trying to look at their undies.

Just for the record, Law only had eyes for Luffy's panties, thank you very much (not that he would ever see them under Ace's rule, but he could still dream).

After some time of some awkward pushing, Law finally was close enough to Kidd that he shouted, "Oi, Kidd! Any chance you've seen Luff-"

He was cut off as the full body of Kidd came into sight.

Kidd...was with Luffy...and what was this? They were holding hands? What the hell happened here?

"Uh...Where are we going?" Luffy said wide-eyed, glancing around her curiously, "I don't really want to walk anymore..." She added, stopping in her tracks, "These heels are hard to walk in...It makes me wonder why Nami likes them so much."

Kidd stopped after hearing that and nodded, "Yeah, they look like a pain...plus when you wear them, you slouch even more than you normally do, and you keep on tripping or stepping on my feet. I almost wish Law would come find you quickly." Though as he said that, he looked away, scratching his head with a blush as red as his hair.

Law face-palmed.

That tsundere idiot.

"Oi, Kidd!" Law shouted over the loud voices of the drunk dancers, the unintelligible screams of the DJ, and the insanely loud rap music currently playing. The tall red-head turned, as though in slow motion, and anyone there could see the visible horror on his face as the demon called his name.

"L-Law..." He said weakly, though tightening his grip on Luffy's hand.

"Oi, let go! It hurts." Luffy said with a whine...even though she looked pretty content at the moment. Her chicken leg was still in her other hand, though this time, it was also paired with a soda and a cupcake, which Kidd found to be strange since Luffy hadn't left his sight at all during the time they were together, and he didn't even know when or how she managed to get two new pieces of food...another strange thing was how she carried all three things in one single hand.

The girl had practice.

"Bastard." Law said through his teeth, "Didn't you hear the girl?" He asked, placing his hand on Kidd's shoulder and pushing him a bit so the tall red-head could face him. Kidd looked baffled for a moment, before he was tugged forward by the shorter man and brought down until his eyes met Law's.

Law growled, "Let. Her. Go."

And Kidd released her.

Even though Kidd and Law were pretty equal rivals and there was the fact that Kidd was wayyy taller, he couldn't exactly disobey Law's orders when such a nasty glare - so nasty that even Kidd was surprised - was directed at him.

"Now that's a good boy." Law said, smirking at Kidd, who looked at him wide-eyed. Turning, Law now faced Luffy, "Luffy-ya, let's go!" He waved for Luffy to come, and she followed obediently, chewing on, yet, another new piece of food that they had not yet seen tonight - a slice of pizza.

"Hai, Doctor Law." She said, raising her arm to salute, "Let's get some food on our way out."

"Ay ay, Captain!" Law replied, with a smile. Though following that smile was a smug expression that he directed at the still-frozen Kidd. 'Nice try', he mouthed silently, 'but you ain't getting her tonight'

Though the thing was...Law was pretty bad at mouthing so Kidd only got the 'Nice try' part, and the, 'Tonight' part. Luckily however, it didn't take a genius to figure out what that meant.

Monkey Luffy was getting the D.

No, just kidding, Law would never do that with Ace around. Plus, Luffy was 100% clueless about sexually related things, so it wouldn't have been fun. The most she would do would be punching Law in the face and casually walking to the kitchen to get some food as though nothing had happened.

What it really meant was that Law was going to be flirting and dancing with Luffy the whole night, and Kidd would have no chance to get close. Not that he really minded anyway. He knew he had no chance from the start.

Looking at them from behind, he already could see that Luffy liked him. Her blush. Her smile. And her content expression, just from holding Law's hand.

She never made an expression like that when he was holding her hand...and it sorta hurt. But he just had to deal with it. Monkey D. Luffy had fallen for Law hard, and that wouldn't change even if he interfered...

Not even Portgas D. Ace could change her mind...

Ah speaking of him, he must be here alread-

"FUCKING TRAFALGAR LAWWWWW!" A voice roared.

"Ah, right on cue." Kidd muttered, with a little bit of a smile. Even if he didn't get the girl, at least he could watch the man he loathed get brutally murdered by the soon-to-be brother-in-law.

Law froze, sweat already pouring down his face like a river as he pulled Luffy behind him. Ace came up to them immediately, eyes burning with fire-like passion, followed closely by the tired-looking Sabo, who stood off to the corner of Law's eye like a side character.

Ah...so that was how long it took for Ace to break free of Sabo's bondage and peacefully agree to check up on Luffy.

Law checked the clock. only 8:18. He would have to take the time off from driving here and finding them, so he could firmly access that it took about 5 minutes for Ace to threaten and convince Sabo enough for him to let Ace go and begin driving to the school...ah...five minutes of earned time before he was going to face death in the eye.

He began to slowly back up.

Five minutes was a new record, to be honest. Normally it would take about 2 minutes for Sabo to break under the pressure. Possibly because Sabo knew this was coming and prepared a weak excuse...Probably something like, "We're college students...we shouldn't barge in on a high school event..." And then Ace would smoothly reply with something that didn't make much sense, but still sounded good all the same. That in itself probably should have taken up a good solid five minutes in itself since Sabo was pretty good at defending his position on a argument. Ah, but Ace probably used his puppy dog eyes...Damn, so that sped it up to only taking 3 minutes.

"Hey Ace-ya...you're here already..." Law began to say, calculating his escape plan and how much time he could buy with Luffy behind him as a distraction for Ace's sister complex.

"I have no time for small talk...let's cut to the chase."

Well, so much for his plan.

Law gulped.

And Ace raise his fist.

On the side, Sabo sighed as he covered Luffy's innocent eyes.

And then screams erupted in the room, but even then, nobody dared to look at the notorious college student beating up Law. All they had to do was dance, and ignore the screams. Focus on the loud music, yes that's it, just don't look at them.

This was a scene he had seen far too many times...and Sabo had decided not to care about the well-being of the victim anymore. Heck, he had been a victim of Ace too many times to count...he was already used to it.

Though on the other hand, He was feeling pretty bad for Law to have to be the best friend and rival of Kidd, the boyfriend of Luffy, and the possible brother-in-law of Ace.

Maybe it wasn't too late for Law to change his mind.

Sabo flashed another glance at his possibly evil brother.

Yep, that would be a good idea.

Okay, this took so much longer than I expected. Tell me what you think! Ahaha...I had to change the ending so many times, so thats why its a bit choppy, but ayy...it ended fairly well for everyone in the story...cept for Law...Oh and as of today, this story has had 25,700 views! Pretty weird for a 9-10 chapter story...

In the next chapter, I should change Ace a bit. To another kind of character. I am tired of the Ace I'm writing about now. I want him to be more normal, and more brotherly...and less violent. I never meant to make him violent to begin with anyway, it just kinda happened like that.
