Chapter 16- Birthday Boy
Author's Note- Yeah I know. I'm late.
Emma blinked a few times, opening her eyes. She looked around at her surroundings; an arm draped across her stomach and a head of curly hair resting on her chest. Will. A rush of memories from the night before rushed to her head and she remembered them drifting off together on the floor, something that she had probably been dreaming about last month. Emma nearly giggled, Will must've cuddled up closer to her at some point during the night. She had to get up and start moving around, maybe fix him breakfast or something, but she was going to have to gently move him to the side. She awkwardly slid her hand under Will's head and in one swift motion, gently lifted his head off of her and onto the floor. As Emma sat up, Will stirred around a bit in his sleep but didn't wake. Emma stretched, smiling down at the boy before her. He looked so soft and cuddly, curled up on the floor like that. She couldn't believe that he was turning seventeen today.
Emma got up and walked into his kitchen, looking around in the cupboards for something that she could make them all for breakfast.
Will rubbed his eyes and sat up, groggily. He realized he had been sleeping on the floor and smiled, figuring him and Em must've fallen asleep together there. He hoped that Emma had been okay with that, considering her OCD and all, he would never want her to uncomfortable with him. "Emma?" Will called, spinning around on his knees.
"Over here," she replied, setting the table for breakfast. "Good morning, birthday boy."
Will smiled, walking over to her. "What's all of this?" There was a platter of pancakes on the table along with scrambled eggs and bacon.
"Your birthday breakfast!" Jewell exclaimed. "Emma made it for all of us! Isn't that sweet?"
Will and Emma's eyes met from across the table and Emma blushed, ducking her head. "Very," Will replied. "Thank you, Em."
"No problem," Emma told him.
"The food's great," Will announced, once they all started eating.
"Thanks, Will," Emma blushed.
"So, what are you two lovebirds doing today?" Jewell asked, gesturing to the two of them.
Will blushed, sighing. They had learned a while back that there was no use in even trying to correct Jewell. No matter what they said to her, she still was convinced that they were dating or at least, liked each other as more than friends. It was a lost cause. "Jewell, Emma doesn't have to stay the whole day if she has other things to do," Will said.
"Is that your way of kicking me out, Will Schuester?" Emma teased.
"No, I was just saying…" Will laughed.
"Uh-huh," Emma nodded, smirking. "I see how it is."
Will smirked, shaking his head.
They had finished breakfast and Will and Emma were now sitting in Will's room together. Will was lying on the carpet, propped up on his elbows, and Emma was sitting on his bed. "So…" Emma started, smiling down at him. "I was wondering if I could give you my presents now."
"You know, you didn't have to get me anything," Will replied, smiling nonetheless.
"I'm your best friend, it's like in the handbook," Emma argued. "Plus, I know you're going to love it." Emma picked up a big wrapped box off the ground along with a smaller bag and a card. "Here," she said, handing the gifts to him.
Will's eyes were widening at the sight of the presents but he moved to read the card first, when suddenly Emma snatched it out of his hands. "I'd prefer if you read the card after I left, if that's okay," Emma stammered, face flushed.
Will smiled, placing the card behind him on his desk. "That's fine." He picked up the bag from the floor.
"No! Open the box first!" Emma squealed, waving her arms. Will looked over at her and she swallowed hard, smoothing out her jeans.
"So bossy today," Will teased, grabbing the box.
"No…it's just…well, you'll see why," Emma explained.
Will lifted the box onto his lap and furrowed his eyebrows, a cute habit that Emma had grown to love. "This is kinda heavy," Will observed. He ripped open the wrapping like a young child on Christmas morning and the face that came to follow could've easily been a child on Christmas morning receiving just what he'd wanted. Will lifted the box into the air to show Emma, as if she didn't know what she'd gotten him. "You got me a PlayStation 3?" he practically yelled.
Emma giggled, as Will gawked at the box. His wide hazel eyes were scanning the words on the PS3 box and his smile kept getting wider and wider. "Yeah, I did. Do you like it?" Emma asked.
"Do I like it? I love it!" Will screamed, reaching over to hug her. He engulfed her in a bear hug and when he pulled away, Emma smiled.
"I'm glad you like it," Emma told him.
"You didn't have to get something that big," Will replied. "It's a lot. You really didn't have to."
"But I wanted to," Emma explained. "You've been through a lot, not just this year, but your entire life. You deserve something special for you. In fact, you deserve a lot more than you know and I just want you to be able to have something good in your life, for once. So, yeah, it's yours."
"Thank you, Emma," Will said, sincerely. "I love it."
"You're welcome, Will," Emma smiled. She loved seeing him happy; there was just a certain way that the green flecks in his eyes sparkled that made her melt. "The bag is just a few more games for the PS3 since it only comes with Grand Theft Auto 5."
Will pulled out Mortal Kombat: The Komplete Edition, NCAA Football '13, and NBA 2K14. "These are awesome, thanks so much, Em. I love it. All of it. It's just…wow. This is a great birthday. Thank you so so much," Will told her. He slid over beside her and puts his arms around her, hugging her tightly.
"Happy seventeenth birthday, Will," Emma whispered, into his arms.
After hours and hours of playing video games on Will's new PlayStation 3 and after his birthday dinner, Emma had given him a kiss on the cheek before leaving and getting back to her house. It had definitely been Will's best birthday by far. Will was in his room, sitting at his desk, about to read Emma's birthday card to him. He opened it and began scanning his eyes over it slowly.
Happy Birthday Will!
I hope that you have a great seventeenth birthday, Will! I know this sounds cliché but you really have been the best friend…really one of the only friends…that I've ever had and I can't thank you enough for that. You're an amazing guy, a great athlete, and a cute friend. (Yes, I called you cute, you can stop smirking now.) I hope that you have a great day and many more great days to come. You really deserve them. I know you think you don't, but you do. You deserve a lot more than you have, Will. A lot more. I'm not talking in material things, I'm talking about in friendship, love, and family. I really hope it gets better for you, Will, because you, more than anyone I know, deserve it. Have a great birthday.
Love,
Emma
Will smiled down at Emma's neat handwriting, knowing that he didn't deserve her love and that was for sure in his mind.
So what'd you think? I know that this was insanely short but that was because it was a little fluffy filler chapter because the next chapter's going to be long and filled with tons of drama. Bad things are coming, haha.
I'm aware that I haven't updated since August and that we're nearly in January. This is definitely not how I wanted to be, you have to believe me. I really hope that there are still people who are reading this because if you guys are quitting on me then I might as well give up. This is my first year of high school and it's been insanely hectic. I'm in all honors classes except for math, which means a lot of work and I was on the cross country team and now I'm on the basketball team and sports take up a lot of time and commitment, as some of you may know. I'm not trying to make up excuses here, I'm just trying to let you guys know what's going on. I'm really really so so sorry that it took me this long to put out a crappy chapter. I hope you guys don't give up on me.
Last thing, how was everyone's Christmas? (or any other holiday you guys celebrate) Tell me something fun you did or something sweet you got in your review, because I'm bored and listening to you guys makes me happy. :) I hope that you all had a great holiday and have a great New Year's.
Please leave a review, everyone! I want to know if there are enough of you reading this story for me to continue it. If people are actually still actively reviewing this, then I'll continue and try to get a chapter out on Sundays every 2 weeks. So I'll see you 2 weeks from now. Hopefully. Love you all. Review please!
