Chapter 19

Sam took the ring in his trembling hand and stared at it. Here it was. Staring at him. He couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that not only did he have MawMaw's ring, but that he was going to ask Mercedes to marry him! It all felt so surreal to him. He just sat there staring at the ring quietly as his parents watched him.

"Sammy," His mom asked curiously as she laid her hand on his back. "Are you going to be ok? I can't tell what's going through that brain of yours. You look a cross between being in shock and nauseated." Sam chuckled to himself, took a deep breath and shook his head. Dwight chuckled as he watched his son. He knew exactly what Sam was going through at this moment. He went through the exact same emotions when he decided to propose to Suzanne. He knew he loved Suzanne and wanted her to be with him for the rest of his life, but the rest of his life sounded really, really scary.

"Look Son," Dwight patted his son on the knee, "you are making a huge decision with this ring. I get it. It changes your whole life and future, as well as Mercedes'. When the time comes for you to propose, you'll know it. It won't be forced, and it won't be difficult. It will be as natural as taking a breath." Dwight's eyes twinkled as he looked into his wife's eyes that were smiling back at him and winked at her.

"I carried your mother's engagement ring in my pocket for two weeks before I proposed to her. And then one day we were walking by the lake after church. It was a special day or holiday. It was just a beautiful autumn day and everything just felt perfect…right. I just knew that this was the moment. All of my fears and worries were all gone. I walked her over to a park bench, got on one knee and-"

"And said, "Suzanne, you are the love of my life and my everything. I want to build the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Suzanne interjected with a smile. Dwight leaned across Sam, held Suzanne's face in his hand and kissed her passionately. Sam initially smiled at the affection but soon felt grossed out when the kiss appeared to grow more intense. Sam jetted up from his seat, pulled the lovers apart and walked to the end of the couch.

"That's gross you guys. Come on!" Sam groaned as he shook his head repeatedly. Suzanne rolled her eyes at her son's antics.

"Sam, if it wasn't for this grossness, you and the twins wouldn't even be here. So get over yourself." She snapped. Dwight made a low growl as he leaned his body into Suzanne.

"Now take this as a warning. Leave now, 'cuz I am about to take this to a whole new level of grossness." He answered in a deep voice as he pushed Suzanne deeper into the couch, wrapping his arms around her waist. Sam turned his head quickly and ran up the stairs, hearing his parents' laughter behind him.

He knocked on Stacy's door and was pleasantly surprised to see Mercedes answer the door still fully dressed.

"Hey beautiful." He said as he leaned against the doorway.

"Hey handsome." She replied with a gleaming smile. Sam ran the back of his hand along her cheek.

"Feel like getting some air with me?"

"To that place Britney mentioned? St. Clair's?" Sam nodded his head. Mercedes shrugged her shoulders.

"Sounds good." Mercedes was walking toward the front stairs when she felt Sam's hand on the small of her back.

"Let's go down the back stairs. The living room might be…to occupied right now. Real occupied." Sam answered quickly as he ushered a confused Mercedes towards the back stairs.

St. Clair's clearing was only a fifteen minute drive from Sam's house. Mercedes was already charmed by the town's warmth and hominess. She loved hearing Sam point out the town's historical sites, as well as his old high school hangouts.

Sam pulled the car into a deserted area near the lake. Mercedes stepped out of the car and felt like she stepped into a Spielberg movie. The view was amazing! The stars are actually twinkling and their reflection from the lake made the sky seem endless. The lake was so tranquil and quiet, Mercedes felt like she could sleep right there beside the shore.

"You know," Sam began as he started pulling some things out of the trunk of the car, "when I was high school, my family went through a lot of drama- Finances, my dyslexia, the twins. Sometimes I felt like I couldn't even breathe at our house. So I would come out here, sit under the stars and listen to the water. I was so relaxed that I would fall asleep here and go home at the crack of dawn." Sam spread a blanket on a patch of green grass and placed a mini cooler on the corner.

"You never came up here with a girl?" Mercedes asked. Sam shrugged one of his shoulders.

"Not really. I felt like this place was my own little vacation spot from the world".

"Well thank you for sharing it with me. I feel honored."

"My pleasure, my lady. But actually you being here honors me." Sam replied with a wink.

Soon music was being played from Sam's cellphone and he was pouring white wine into two plastic wine glasses that were all stored in the cooler. Mercedes looked at the blanket with amazement while Sam sat across from her. He lifted his eyes to see her watching him.

"What?" He asked cautiously. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Mercedes looked down at the blanket and shook her head softly, smiling to herself.

"You just amaze me sometimes. This is great, Sammy. How did you do this all of this? I thought you just wanted to go get some air." Sam blushed as he pulled out a bag of grapes and a bag of cubed cheeses.

"I..um…kind of… had this stuff in the car before we left New York. I was hoping that we would get some private time during this visit." Mercedes lifted up one eyebrow as she cocked her head to the side.

"Sammy, I thought this trip was about celebrating your parents' anniversary." Sam handed Mercedes a glass of wine and lowered his lips so that it barely touched her ear, letting her feel his hot breath against her skin. His eyes darkened as he enjoyed the view of her low cut v-neck t-shirt.

"I would never pass up an opportunity where it would be possible for me to be with you." Sam captured Mercedes' ear lobe in his mouth and sucked it gently, letting his tongue enjoy the feel of her skin. Mercedes nearly dropped her glass of wine, once her body began to react to his touch. Sam passionately kissed Mercedes' neck and collarbone, interchanging between kissing and sucking her skin. Mercedes wasn't sure how long she could go on with his caressing. Her body was going into overdrive, making her clinch her inner thighs tightly as she felt pools of moisture dripping from her core.

"Mercy, tasting you makes my mouth water. I am so hard right now, Baby." Sam murmured as he began kissing the top of her breasts. Mercedes tried to bring the glass to her mouth, but Sam's attention to her body was making her unable to think straight. She accidentally spilled wine onto her chest. The accident seemed to push Sam over the edge. He looked at her chest hungrily. Before Mercedes knew it, Sam pulled her t-shirt over her head, revealing her lacy black push up bra. He took the glass of wine from her hand and slowly poured more wine onto her chest. He grabbed her bra-covered breasts with both hands, pushing them together. Then he began lapping the wine that was on her chest and breasts with his tongue. His tongue danced over her skin as he sucked the wine from the lace material.

Mercedes threw her head back, letting out moans and gasps. Sam pulled Mercedes onto his lap, allowing her to straddle him with her legs wrapped around him. Sam grinded his hard dick against her core, needing to get as close to her as he could. Even with jeans on, Sam could feel her wetness and the heat coming from her core.

He held Mercedes closely against his chest as he laid her onto the blanket. Lying on top of her, he pushed her legs apart with his knees, grinding constantly against her.

"Fuck, Mercedes. I want you so bad right now." He growled as he grabbed her ass with both hands and squeezed it hard. Mercedes' body shivered when she heard his words. She tried to speak but the only sounds her body was allowing her to make were sounds of passion and need. When she felt Sam reaching for the button on her jeans, she forced her mind to focus and grabbed his hands.

"Sam, wait." She whispered. "We can't do this here. Someone could easily see us." Sam laid his forehead against hers and nodded.

"Yeah, yeah. You're right. But baby, I got to see you cum." Sam groaned as he unbuttoned her jeans and slipped the zipper down. Before Mercedes could argue, his hand was already inside her dripping wet panties. His two fingers were rubbing against her clitoris in a pressured circular motion. Mercedes opened her mouth to form an "O".

"Ssss..aaamm." She stuttered. Sam continued circling her clitoris as he moved the material covering her nipple to the side.

"Baby, you have the sexiest body I have ever seen. Your nipples are perfect." He flicked his tongue against her nipple several times before enveloping it into his mouth. Mercedes arched her back when she felt her nipple in his mouth, and Sam pushed two fingers inside of her.

"You are so fucking wet." He growled. "How do you expect me not to want to climb inside of you and fuck you into this blanket." Sam's began pushing his fingers deeper into Mercedes, while his thumb rubbed against her clitoris. Mercedes gasped loudly as grabbed Sam's hair.

"That's right Baby. Let me feel you cum on my fingers. Let me feel that pretty pussy cum just for me." Sam pushed another finger into Mercedes, grinding the three fingers faster and deeper. Mercedes moaned louder.

"This is my pussy, right baby." Mercedes nodded her head as she rode Sam's hand.

"I love this pussy, Mercy. I love the way you feel, and taste and smell." Sam bit down on Mercedes' nipple a little, making Mercedes explode in his hand, shivering violently from the intensity. She panted wildly as she opened her eyes to see Sam sucking his very wet figners.

"I can't believe we just did that. In public!" She gasped, running her shaky hand through her hair. Sam kissed her gently as he buttoned her pants and zipped her up.

"It was worth the risk to see you cum like that. Sexiest thing I have ever, EVER , Seen." Mercedes laughed as she covered her face with her hand.

"You are so damn crazy." She said as she ran her hand along the side of Sam's face.

"Crazy about you. Always." Sam answered as he lay next to Mercedes on the blanket and held her close.

"You make me want to take risks with you Sam. I feel like I can do anything with you." Mercedes answered while she laid her head against Sam's heart. Sam felt so fully content at that moment. He could picture his whole life with Mercedes and felt no anxiety about that at all. He knew he had to propose to her now. He took a deep breath.

"Mercy, I love you so much. You make me feel so complete and happy. You are the one, Mercy. The only one. Baby, will you do me the honor of being my wife?" Sam closed his eyes and held his breath, waiting for her reply. He heard nothing.

"Mercy?" Sam asked tentatively, feeling fear and panic rising up. Then he heard it- Mercedes' quiet snore. Sam pulled away from Mercedes and saw that she was fast asleep against his chest. He let out a sigh as he shook his head. He pulled her into his chest and laughed, despite himself.

"Oh well," he thought, "we'll try it again tomorrow.

The next day, the house was full of relatives and friends coming by to celebrate with the Evans. Before she knew it, Mercedes was flooded with long lost aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and a slew of cousins that ranged from southern belles and gentlemen to Korean-Americans. Apparently, the Evans Family was highly involved in missionary work, spreading the Evans all over the globe, although Sam's core family still resided in Tennessee. Mercedes felt incredibly comfortable and welcomed. She could just imagine Kurt and Tina laughing at her for her previous fears. The Evans consisted of all types of people- short, tall, big, small, white, black, Spanish speaking and southern dialect.

The festivities officially started at the Anniversary dinner at the Hilton Hotel's Ballroom. The four course dinner was semi-formal and allowed friends and family to read their dedications, poetry, sing or perform for the happy couple.

MawMaw began the dedications by giving a beautiful speech about the strength the couple has shown through their many adversities and how they came out of it stronger than ever. While everyone was teary from her speech, MawMaw broke into a series of dirty jokes. When she was about start with her fifth joke beginning with a prostitute, monkey and a monk entering a bar, Dwight jumped out of his seat and pulled her off the stage. She was kicking up a fuss at first. But when she found out that some of the family was having a highstake pokeno game in the back room, she disappeared for the rest of the night.

Sam's aunt from Texas performed a traditional Mexican group dance with her Mexican American husband and their four kids. The family was dressed in bright, colorful costumes, with the ladies wearing full ruffled skirts.

Puck and Santana performed a duet by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. The song is a favorite of the Evans, who danced to the song at their wedding. Before long, Dwight and Suzanne were dancing in the middle of the floor. Sam was watching them closely, making sure that a replay of the freakiness of the other night didn't happen on the dance floor.

Throughout the night, Sam kept stealing looks at Mercedes. What surprised Sam the most about her being at the party was how she fit in perfectly with the Evans crew. She didn't seem the least bit uncomfortable or afraid. At the moment, Mercedes was laughing with some of her cousins at a giant bulletin board filled with pictures of his parents in the back of the room. Suddenly he had an idea. Sam ran up to the mike in the front of the stage, carrying his guitar. First, he mumbled to the musicians who were already sitting on the stage and then he turned his attention to the audience.

"Hey everybody!" He yelled. Hearing his voice, Mercedes turned away from the cousins and joined Sam's family in cheering for him. Sam waved and turned to his parents.

"Mama, Daddy. I love you both so much. You both have taught me so many things about life, faith and most importantly love. Your marriage hasn't been easy. There have been many bumps along the road, setbacks and heartbreaks. But you stayed together because you made a commitment before God and your family to be together through it all. Good, Bad. Rich, Poor. In sickness and in health. Your relationship showed me what loving someone truly means. Which is why…" Sam turns his face to look directly at Mercedes, "I want to commit my life to the woman I am so in love with." Mercedes looked at Sam with a scrunched face, and raised eyebrows, trying to understand what Sam was saying.

"I know you don't understand what's going on right now, Mercedes. So maybe this song will help clarify things."

{Sam begins playing his guitar}

I'm booking myself a one way flight
I gotta see the color in your eyes
And telling myself I'm gonna be alright
Without you baby is a waste of time

{Sam walks down the steps toward Mercedes.}

Yeah, our first date, girl, the seasons changed
It got washed away in a summer rain
You can't undo a fall like this
'Cause love don't know what distance is
Yeah, I know it's crazy

But I don't want "good" and I don't want "good enough"
I want "can't sleep, can't breathe without your love"
Front porch and one more kiss, it doesn't make sense to anybody else
Who cares if you're all I think about,
I've searched the world and I know now,
It ain't right if you ain't lost your mind
Yeah, I don't want easy, I want crazy
Are you with me baby? Let's be crazy

Yeah

I wanna be scared, don't wanna know why
Wanna feel good, don't have to be right
The world makes all kinds of rules for love
I say you gotta let it do what it does

I don't want just another hug and a kiss goodnight
Catchin' up calls and a date sometimes
I love that we're rebels, and we still believe
We're the kind of crazy people wish that they could be, yeah

Oh, and I know we're crazy, yeah

But I don't want "good" and I don't want "good enough"
I want "can't sleep, can't breathe without your love"
Front porch and one more kiss, it doesn't make sense to anybody else
Who cares if you're all I think about,
I've searched the world and I know now,
It ain't right if you ain't lost your mind
Yeah, I don't want easy, I want crazy
You with me baby? Let's be crazy

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na

No, I don't want "good" and I don't want "good enough"
I want "can't sleep, can't breathe without your love"
Front porch and one more kiss, it doesn't make sense to anybody else
Who cares if you're all I think about,
I've searched the world and I know now,
It ain't right if you ain't lost your mind
Yeah, I don't want easy, I want crazy

Yeah, look at us baby, tonight the midnight rules are breaking
There's no such thing as wild enough,
And maybe we just think too much
Who needs to play it safe in love?
Let's be crazy!

Na na na na oh na na na na oh

Who cares if we're crazy? We gotta be crazy
I know that we're crazy, so let's be crazy
Yeah…

The family and Mercedes applauded as Sam puts his guitar down on the table where Mercedes is sitting. She attempted to wrap her arms around his neck, but he takes her hands in his and kneels on one knee in front of her. His family shushes everyone to silence, while Mercedes' eyes bulge as she watches him use one hand to pull something out of his pocket.

"Mercedes Yvonne Jones, I know that I may not be much. I am just a simple country boy from Tennessee. But I am asking you to take a risk and go crazy with me. I have spent the last few months knowing you… really knowing you. You are smart, beautiful, funny. You're a big ol' scaredy
cat. If I creep up from behind you, you'll jump out of your skin. It's pretty amusing. You're honest. You always call them just like you see them. I can always count on getting the truth from you even if the truth hurts. You're stubborn. And you're a really, really, good friend. I know you to a fault. You believe in me. And I'm a dreamer so it's so good to have somebody like that in my life. And that's why I want to know- no. I need to know…"

Sam opens his hand to reveal the ring and Mercedes gasps.

"Mercedes Yvonne Jones, will you marry me?" Sam asked as tears threatened to fall down his face. Mercedes looked at Sam, tears falling from the corner of her eyes, biting her lower lip. She slowly nodded her head. Sam looked into her eyes and nodded with her.

"Yes?" he whispered carefully.

"Yes." She replied softly, but confidently. Sam threw back his head and hooted loudly. The whole hall went up in a clamor of shouts and hoots. Sam pulled her into his chest, hugging her tightly. She laughed as she looked around and saw his parents and his siblings standing up applauding them. Puck, Santana and Brittney were applauding too, with Puck making high pitched whistles.

Sam pulled her away so he could look her in the eyes.

"You actually said yes?" Sam held her face in his hands as he gazed at her lovingly.

"Of course I did. My mama didn't raise no fool. You are my destiny, Sammy." Mercedes answered while wrapping her arms around Sam's neck. He lowered his lips and kissed her like no one else was in the room but them.

**Oh man, this chapter took forever to write! I wanted so much to get it right. I so hoped you liked it. This is the last chapter, my amazing readers! You guys were amazing. I never thought I would ever get over 200 reviews for a story! I am so honored. Thank you so much and God bless.

**The song sung by Sam was "I Want Crazy" by Hunter Hayes.

**I blatantly lifted dialogue from Dawson's Creek, episode 12, Breaking Away, for Sam's proposal. Kill me. I loved that show.
