Summary: Present in spirit, a mother's thoughts as she mourns what her son has become over time. A poem for Phantom Ou-sama.

She watches helplessly, it is all she can do

Her little boy needs her, after all

She'll stay as long as she needs

But as time passes, and he grows, she wonders,

What has happened to her boy?

...

She is useless, she knows

Her boy writhes and twists, calling for his father, and for her

She cannot save him

Before her eyes, as his innocence is robbed, she wonders,

What has happened to her boy?

...

The sorrow is so great, she becomes dormant

When she wakes, her soul quivers

Who is this dark stranger who wears such a dastardly face?

As her boy himself becomes a stranger, she wonders,

What has happened to her boy?

...

He walks with a stride of an adult

He is no longer a child

His dim, cold eyes used to be bright and warm

As she struggles to remember her child's laugh, she wonders,

What has happened to her boy?

...

She observes the dark stranger more than she'd like

Who is he and what are his intentions?

Should she leave her changed son in his hands?

While he leers at him hungrily, she wonders,

What has happened to her boy?

...

The dark stranger can see her

He chooses not to communicate

She asks what he plans to do with her son

As his eyes glow with a sinister light, she wonders,

What will happen to her boy?

...

Her son has become the Queen's Watchdog

She mourns as her son witnesses horrors she cannot protect him from

And horrors that she, herself, cannot perceive

As she says goodbye to her sister, she wonders,

What will happen to her boy?

...

The world she had once lived in is revealed

A boggling secret that even the strongest of minds cannot seek to comprehend

How could she have left her boy in such a world, where these creatures lurk?

The angel sneers as she wonders,

What will happen to her boy?

...

It all becomes frighteningly routine

But she will never get used to her boy being in danger

She wants him to forsake the family name, if it means a life less stressful

She wishes for him to leave it all behind as she wonders,

What will happen to her boy?

...

Her boy's life is surrounded by the supernatural

He is constantly pursued

This talk of demons and souls has her worried

As the demons battle, she wonders,

What will happen to her boy?

...

She watches helplessly

After all, it is all she can do

His soul belongs to no one, not even God

As his eyes glow eerily, she wonders,

What has her boy become?

...

No.

...

Why?

..

Why her son?

...

She sorely realizes that he cannot join her or his father

And she curses those creatures of sin

She curses herself for passing on, for not being there for her son

She wonders, as he finally leaves everything behind him,

What has her boy become?

...

Immortal

...

Demon

...

Lost

I've wondered what Rachel would think of her son if she was "present" in her son's life. So this was sort of like her being a ghost, if you will. This was a doozy. I have a difficult time writing about Ciel, so you could imagine how hard it was to write his mother. But anything for you, Ou-sama! I hope that you and, anyone else who has been reading, has enjoyed this!
