The One Moment That Changed My Life Forever

I was trying not to move, to hold as still as I could while my heart was pounding like crazy and my breathing came quicker and quicker. But I knew that any movement would just make more painful what was ahead of me.

I looked around the room in an effort to calm down. I knew my surroundings. I had been here many times before. The couch, the old armchair, the many filled bookshelves along the walls, all that was familiar to me. The thick curtains were closed and the sunlight shining through them filled the air with a dim twilight. The room was as quiet as a graveyard.

My whole body stiffed as the man standing behind me finally moved.

"Relax.", he whispered in a low voice. "You'll be fine. It won't take long."

I tried to do as I was told but it wasn't easy with cold fear creeping up my spine. The man put a hand to the side of my head and pushed it gently down towards my shoulder, exposing my neck. His other hand was firm around my waist, pressing my back tightly against his chest. I could feel his heart pounding almost as hard as mine did. I could feel his breath on my skin as he lowered his head towards my neck.

Every muscle in my whole body tensed as his lips finally touched my skin. I closed my eyes and waited for the pain. But he just left a light kiss on my neck before he put his mouth against my ear.

"Relax.", he said again. His voice deep and raspy.

I kept my eyes closed and felt my breathing slow down a tiny bit. The next second it was there, a sharp pain as his teeth pierced trough my skin. The next few moments we were just standing there, neither of us moving a fiber. Then suddenly I felt it, a sensation like liquid fire running through my veins. I shivered lightly and opened my eyes but everything around me was a blur. The next thing I felt was pure horror. It was like falling into a groundless black hole, like drowning, like smothering, like getting burned from the inside all at once. I gasped in shock and started to tremble uncontrollably. I wanted to scream but wasn't able to get out any sound.

The very moment I thought I couldn't take it any longer, I felt warm fingers wrapping around mine. It was Henry giving my hand a reassuring press. That was all I needed. He was here, taking care of me like he had done since the day we first met. The fear that had threatened to overwhelm me slowly vanished. I closed my eyes again and felt a little smile building on my face. I knew I could trust Henry completely and that he would never let anything happen to me. And know we were going to be together for the rest of eternity.

It was only seconds later that Henry released my neck and used his sleeve to wipe his mouth. Then he slowly turned me around, keeping me in arms. The fear and the pain were gone but I still felt sick and dizzy. My head dropped against his shoulder and he wrapped his arms around me even tighter, stroking my hair with one hand.

"It's over.", he muttered. "You've been so brave."
