She was well on her way rushing towards Konoha. Gaara was right that the Kohana he knew wasn't in control, but he was wrong that it wasn't Kohana. When a person experiences trauma in the way that she had there was a tendency to develop multiple personalities, lying within and coming to the front as needed or pushing forward in an attempt at dominance over the original. Kohana was broken. Fragmented into different personalities and right now the one in control was out for blood. She would relish in the crimson rain even as it stained. Anyone who saw her would have no doubt at her intent.
Kohana avoided the main roads and travelled well out of sight of others as often as possible. She could trust no one.
"Not too long ago, I was saved from the same way of life." came Sai's voice from so long ago.
A glitch. Kohana gritted her sharp teeth and shook her head. Leaping forward she gripped the next branch harder than she meant to leaving deep gouge marks within its bark. There was a calling deep within her, guiding her direction, guiding her to the other half of the nine tails. The beast had woken, but it wasn't the nine tails within Naruto, it was Kohana.
"You were kept in the dark, but the light within you couldn't be extinguished."
'You're wrong, Sai,' she thought with a growl, "Whatever light you saw in me was artificial. This is who I am.'
"Being in the shape you are in now you have no chance to defeat Danzo even with Naruto's help."
'I'm not going to defeat Danzo. I'm going to rip out his cold, dead heart with my bare hands. This is what he wanted. All that I am I owe to him.'
"Ah, finally. A bit of darkness. Continue."
'You wanted the darkness, Danzo, you're about to get all of it.'
Kohana had a large head start, but Gaara was determined to catch up with her. Before she got herself killed. Kankuro was with him this time while Temari stayed in the village as temporary leader. His hope was that if needed that Kankuro could use his puppets to protect her, even from herself if need be. He just hoped that they would be in time, and that his friends in Konoha would be able to assist. Having sent word ahead about this new turn of events.
"We're picking up something, Lord Danzo."
Danzo looked up from his desk to the minion before him.
"Full report if you please."
"Naruto is still unconscious; however, the nine tail's chakra appears to have awoken. It's surrounding Naruto in an orange glow. Since this did not occur from the testing process, we are assuming that the girl is on her way to his location."
Danzo let out a laugh and spun around to face the window behind him. When he continued to chuckle the shinobi began to become uneasy.
"Sir?"
Danzo glanced over his shoulder.
"Your orders, Sir?"
With a smirk, "My orders? Kurai is finally coming home. Prepare for her return."
"Kakashi-sensei, Gaara's note didn't give us much information to go on. How will we know where to find Naruto? Or Kohana?" Sakura asked. She was becoming more antsy by the minute. A sense of urgency rising in all of them, but no direction to channel it towards.
"Gaara believes Kohana is using the link between them to locate Naruto. We have several ANBU around the village searching for any sign that will give us direction. Once we have that, we will be able to narrow our search down."
"I hate waiting," Sakura replied.
A battle was inbound and it wouldn't be much longer before Kohana reached her destination. Hinata stood nearby with her cousin, Neji. She wanted to find Naruto and help him as much as she could. She knew he was still alive. She would have felt it if Danzo had killed him... wouldn't she? She shook her head. The Hokage had assigned many of her classmates to wait until "the call". She said they would know what it is when it happened.
*Self*: My apologies for the short chapter update, but I will be dedicating all of the next one telling the story of Kohana the fierce!
