Perched in the trees above a small clearing, the Stoll brothers overlooked the setting for their latest prank, amused, as a blur of blonde hair and grey eyes darted in front of a startled Percy Jackson. A pair of hands slammed violently into his chest and sent him flying into a tree a few feet away from his angry girlfriend. "Oh, that had to hurt," groaned Connor quietly to his brother, who currently was attempting to stifle his laughter in his hands without falling from the tree. Returning his gaze to the scene, Connor watched as Annabeth towered over Percy and yelled, " Where is my dagger, Percy? I know you stole it! Just because you can't bear the thought of losing tonight's game of capture the flag to Cabin 6…" Annabeth continued her rant as a stunned and utterly confused looking Percy slowly rose to his feet, rubbing the back of his head where it had struck the tree.
"But-"
"No buts, Perseus Jackson," Annabeth interrupted, clearly not softening at her boyfriend's terrified face. "Now give me my dagger." Shaking with laughter, the Stoll brothers stuck their heads out of the cover of the branches as far as they dared. Annabeth's dagger glinted as it slid out of Travis' pocket, unnoticed by the Stoll brothers. Clearly, though, it had not escaped Percy's trained demigod eyes, and they widened as he noticed the shiny tip of the dagger sticking out from the leaves of the tree.
Percy timidly interrupted Annabeth's rant, pointing up at the tree. "Annabeth, look, your dagger is right there."
She rolled her grey eyes, especially stormy due to her mood. "Don't play games with me, Percy Jackson."
"No, seriously!" Percy protested. At that moment, the dagger slipped all the way out of Travis's pocket, falling the twenty feet and landing on the dirt ground, packed hard from the wear and tear of the demigod campers, with a thump. Annabeth whirled around to face the noise, her cheeks flushed from screaming for so long. Picking up the dagger, she stared up at the tree above her in confusion. The Stoll brothers quickly retreated, hoping the shade of the branches would hide them, but Annabeth glimpsed a flash of their curly brown hair and called up to them, furiously.
"Come down here, now." The Stoll brothers glanced at each other, shrugged, and climbed down the tree, sliding down the last few feet. Grins plastered on their faces, they met Annabeth's glare and braced themselves for her scolding.
Before she could begin ranting again, though, Percy called out, "Okay, Wise Girl, I think you owe someone an apology." Annabeth turned toward him and grudgingly kissed him on the cheek. Smirking, Percy rubbed the back of his head. "Gods, Annabeth, you threw me into a tree, don't I get a bit more of an apology?" He pulled Annabeth toward him and kissed her. Tensing at first, Annabeth relaxed and kissed him back, leaning against the tree for balance. The Stoll brothers, realizing their opportunity, rolled their eyes and smirked as they took off running for the cabins, leaving Annabeth and Percy kissing in the clearing. Another day, another brilliant prank completed by the Stoll brothers….
