Max POV

I threw myself down the stairs, trying to go really fast, but also not trying to trip. But of course, me, being my clumsy self, fell halfway through. As I was falling I put my hands out in front of me to catch myself, but when I was about two inches away from the ground, I had just stopped in mid air.

I looked around confused, but then I realized it was my powers kicking in, I also realized that I was about to lose our race. So I pushed myself off of the ground and wailed myself faster and faster down the stairs. I also realized as I was going down, that I may also have super speed. Sweet! I thought to myself as I got to the bottom and opened the door.

There was no sign of Fang yet, I realized as I looked around, relieved. So I went over to where the elevator was and leaned on the wall next to it, smiling to myself.

After about 15 seconds about me waiting there, the elevator dinged and the doors opened to reveal Fang stepping out of the elevator hurriedly, as if he thought that he had actually beaten me, but only to find me leaning up against the wall nonchalantly.

I smiled at him as he looked at me disappointedly, "Sorry, not everyone is born to be a winner." I told as if he was a baby, I then proceeded to ruffle his hair with my fingers, but it didn't look as cool as I had liked, because I had to get on my tippy toes to even reach the top of his head, it kind of ruined the affect.

"Whatever." He pouted, but then he shook it off and smiled a little at me. "So, about that tour." He said, motioning for us to start walking to the door. Which I did, with him following in suit, but somehow he had gotten in front and pulled both of the doors open for me like a gentlemen.

I smiled and thanked him quietly, I stopped when I got outside because I didn't know what car was his. He walked in front of me and I followed him over to his car, a truck actually, a red truck. It was nice, I really liked it. But it was defiantly second place to my Hummer, I just loved it so much.

"Hey, how'd you get down here so fast anyway?" He asked me as we climbed into the front of his truck.

"Super speed." I told him, and of course he thought I was kidding. He laughed a little and I laughed slightly too, just so I didn't give off the hint that I actually did have super powers. "Where are we going anyway?" I asked him.

"Well, I could take you to the Grand Canyon or Chase Field, but I'm not that cool, and not that rich, so I figured I would take you to the best pub in town, and then up to the mall where we could meet up with the gang so maybe you could make a few friends, since, I figure I'm all you got since you're new and all." He explained to me, smiling slightly when he looked over at me and said that he was all that I had.

I rolled my eyes at him. "Since when are we friends? Where I come from, the person that wants to be your friend has to pay you in prized possession and treat you with utmost care and respect, so far, you've done none of that." I told him, seeing if he would actually take the bait.

"Wait really? You really have to do that where you're from? No wonder you don't have any friends." He told me.

I giggled, which was strange, since he was right about me not having any friends where I was from, I had never had an interaction with a human that wasn't part of my family that actually made me laugh and feel happy. It was different, and even though I was a bitch, I could get used to the idea of being nice to maybe a few people.

"I'm defiantly kidding, people didn't do that, and even if they had too, no one would do that to me, I guess in other people's eyes they think I'm 'too mean'. No idea where they picked that up from." I said sarcastically. "But, since you fell for it, I expect you to make this the best day ever for me." I challenged him, and honestly, it shouldn't be that hard considering I lived in the Underworld for ten years which was basically another term for Hell.

"Challenge accepted." He told me, giving me a look. I smiled at him and he gave me a cute little half smile.

I mean, it wasn't cute, of course he wasn't cute, what was I thinking. I told myself I wouldn't change when I got here, and I won't, I refuse too. But damn this boy was going to make it hard.

"This. Is, delicious." I had told him slowly, trying not to show the huge chunks of burger I was still working on chewing, but hell, I couldn't help it, I hadn't had something this good in, well I don't think I've ever had anything this good.

"Well, I'm glad you like it. Most of the time when I take girls out to eat they just order a salad, which personally is wimpy. I'm glad you're not like most girls." He complimented. "Although you can be bitchy, I think I can handle it." He added on.

I swallowed my huge piece of food and smiled at him. Glad that he liked me.

What? No I'm not! I don't like guys, and I defiantly don't need to be getting all worried and trying to please this one. Even if he is really cute and all… no stop! It would never work. I tried to convince myself. Because once I get too attached to him I'm going to end up telling him who I really am, and once I do that, he's never going to talk to me. No one would ever want to talk to a monster like me. I told myself disappointedly.

I tried to forget about what I had been thinking and focus on something else. Like the amazing burger I was eating or, or maybe I could focus on Fang's thoughts… no that would be a total invasion of privacy, he would kill me if he found out, but, I guess he never will find out… and it will only be for a second anyway… it was worth a shot, for all I know I might not even remember how to do it.

So I concentrated on reading Fang's mind, it took a couple of seconds but then I heard a voice, his voice say;

Wow, she's really something, I mean I don't think I've ever seen a girl eat as much as I do, and I eat a lot. She was different, and right now I could defiantly use some different. But who am I kidding, a girl like this would never want to go for a guy like me.

Which is good, I shouldn't even be thinking about liking her right now either, but, it was kind of hard not to…..

No Fang stop, get a hold yourself! Do you really want a repeat of your last relationship?

I didn't, but even if Max and I did get into a relationship I don't think it would work out the way it with her…

I pulled my thoughts out of his. See, I thought to myself, he didn't want that either, I'm glad we were on the same page.

We may have been on the same page, but in the back of my mind I couldn't help feeling attracted to him in some way that I did not like… this was not going to be good. So instead of thinking about the topic more, I picked up my burger and took a huge bite of it and relaxed. Everything would work out, I told myself. Maybe….

We made our way inside of the huge 'Mall' I guess it was called. It was filled with a bunch of different stores, a lot of them were clothing stores for girls, but I really didn't need to go in there, I didn't need clothes, and I wasn't really sure how I would feel about shopping, it didn't really seem that fun.

"So, we were gonna meet the Gang down there." He said pointing a little bit away from where we were. "So that you could meet everyone, is that okay?" he asked me, as if he needed my permission.

I nodded "Yeah sounds good." I assured him as we started walking over there. "So." I said , my attempt at making small talk clearly not as good as I was hoping.

"So, why did you decide to come to America?" he asked me, watching me as I told him my answer.

"I just wanted to get away from my dad and where I lived, it's not exactly a good place to be." I told him, and I wasn't lying, it was actually all very true, just not the whole truth.

"So you're living here without your parents?" he asked me, he seemed surprised.

"Yeah, my dad is, well it's hard to explain, we don't have the best relationship, and my mom died, years ago actually." I told him, trying to figure why I was suddenly feeling like I should spill my entire life story to this boy that I had only met this morning.

"Oh, I'm sorry." He told me, and I could tell he meant it.

I shrugged. "It's okay, I rarely saw her anyways since my parents were divorced, and plus it's been about 11 years. So I'm over it." I said, and I was, I really didn't think much about my mom anymore, and if I did I just told myself that she was in a better place, a much better place.

"Oh, yeah my dad died too, but it was when I was like two so I never really knew him." He told me.

I nodded. "Sorry." I said to him, I don't know why I said it, it just seemed like the right thing to say, and plus I didn't have anything else that I needed to say about it.

"But anyway," he started, "We met this morning, and were already hanging out together, and I realized I barely know anything about you." he admitted.

"There's not much to know." I lied. "But yeah, I don't really know much about you either."

"Alright well, let's just ask each other questions then, sound good?" He asked me. I nodded.

"You first." I told him.

"Okay, uhh, what's your favorite color?"

"Blue." I told him quickly. "Is it my turn to ask you a question now?" he nodded. "Alright, why is your friend Iggy so obnoxious?" I asked him.

He smiled. "Well, that, I'm not really sure of, he sees a hot girl then he just immediately thinks that he has to talk to her, but I don't know why he came up to you." I looked at him, a bit insulted. "I mean, you're way out of his league, he should have known that." He said, looking down at me and smiling. I blushed slightly and nodded. "What do you wanna be when you grow up?" he asked.

"I'm not really sure." I said stumped, "I'm just focusing on staying in America for as long as I can, I want to stay away from my dad." I told him honestly.

"Elaborate?" he told me.

I shook my head, "I'm afraid you're going to need to wait your turn." I told him, he pouted. "Oh, get over it." I joked. "Anyways, what's your girlfriend like?" I asked, assuming he has one.

"Oh I don't have a girlfriend." He told me, smiling slightly, at what I wasn't sure.

"What." I said, amazed. "How do you not have a girlfriend?"

He wiggled his finger. "I'm afraid you're going to have to wait your turn." He said, mocking me. I glared at him playfully, but right when I was about to tell him off, he stopped walking and said "Hey guys."

I stopped walking too and turned my head to look at who he was talking to.

I heard a few heys and hi's, but then someone started to ask "Whose the chick?" it came from a small boy standing at the end of the line, he looked a bit upset.

"This is Max." Fang told everyone. A tall brown haired girl with tan skin stepped up across from me.

"Hi Max! I'm Monique but everyone calls me Nudge! It's so nice to meet you! We're going to be such good friends I can just feel it. You're gonna get along with everyone here I can tell! Ohh we are going to have so much fun! I mean I know we just met but I feel like I've known you forever, even though the only thing I know about you is your name I mean hsodfsh" the last part of her sentence was cut off by Iggy putting a hand over her mouth and walking in front of her to stand close to me.

"Well well well, looked who we have here, just couldn't resist me could you sweetie, ya, none of the girls can." He flirted, I rolled my eyes.

"Iggy, I find it hard to believe that a girl would actually want to be with you by choice, I mean, by force, I get, but honestly? Your pick up lines are honestly the worst." I said, telling him off. His cheeks turned red again, like the last time we had talked, and again, he stepped away from me and back into the line of the group with everyone else.

I could see Fang smirking from the corner of my eye, and I smiled slightly at what had gone down. I looked up at Fang and he looked at me, then he said; "So anyway, this is Angel." He said, pointing to the blonde girl at the beginning of the line, "And that's Ella and Gazzy." He said, pointing to a tall girl with dirty blonde hair, and then to the short boy that had asked who I was earlier. "And you already met Nudge and Iggy." He said. "And everyone else who didn't hear before, this, is Max Ride, she lives across from me now, me and Ig met her this morning.

Almost everyone of them smiled at me, and I smiled slightly back at them, lifting up my hand as if to wave.

"So, Max, wanna come shopping with us?" Nudge asked excitedly, pulling all the girls out from the group as they started walking a little bit away towards some stores.

At first I wasn't really comfortable with it, but as I looked up at Fang for reassurance, he nodded and smiled at me.

"Sure." I said looking back at the girls.

"Oh great!" Nudge said excitedly, "This is gonna be so much fun!" she exclaimed, taking my hand and pulling me harshly with her, she locked her arms around mine and started ranting about god knows what. I looked back at Fang with my eyes wide in some sort of 'help me' kind of way, but he just shrugged and smiled, then waved at me and mouthed, 'I'll see you later.' Then he snickered again. I glared at him again and then turned my head to look where I was going. I heard Nudge say, "I mean I'm sure you could use new clothes right? So don't worry, we know exactly where to go." She confirmed.

I sighed quietly to myself. What the hell did I get myself into.
