I woke up with a groan. Hearing the blare of the alarm clock in the morning was not the best day to start your morning. Especially on the first day of school.

It seemed like summer only started yesterday, but the fun never lasts. The beaches and the late night movie marathons had to float away and the overdue library books and the late homework had to come crawling back.

She swung her legs over the bed and flopped down trudging to the closet. Then she heard the quack of a duck and she turned to her desk and grabbed her phone.

"Izzy, what do you want?" I sighed into the phone, continuing my way to the closet. I wasn't a morning person so I dreaded the days Isabelle would call me, excited about whatever they were doing or something.

"Today we go back to the place where we walk down the halls to smell the glorious smell of sharpened pencils and chalk, to the place where we make new friendships and learn new treasures of life and all you have to say is 'what do you want'?" She asked disbelieving.

I sighed rummaging through my clothes. "Yes, because you are probably the only person alive who actually likes to learn and by the way we don't learn the treasures of life we learn math, science, English, and history. Those aren't treasures."

I finally picked out a blue Henley shirt, my favorite old jeans, and black converse.

"Izzy, I've got to go. I'll see you at school." I said heading to the bathroom.

"Kay. See Ya."

I set my phone down on my desk and walked into the bathroom. I turned the hot spray on, watching it hit the tiles. I stripped of my clothes and stepped into the blistering hot water.

I put my hand on the cold tile wall and let my head drop back. The steam burned my face but I let the sting wash the tired away and help me awake.

I raised my head and opened my eyes, knowing today was going to be a long, torturous day.

I pulled my car into the parking lot of my school.

It was the exact same way it had been. It was still the perfect replica of the high schools you see on television.

The jocks threw their football, the geeks debated their favorite video game, the drama club rehearsed their lines, and the normal people who weren't noticed talked to their group of friends.

I searched for my friends. Then I spotted an excited Isabelle waving frantically at me. Her wide smile stretched across her face glowed brighter than the sun. I made my way over to them.

When I was around twenty feet away Izzy ran over to me and tackled me in a bear hug.

"Hey Izzy." I choked out.

She pulled back, her smile never diminishing. "Hi."

I hugged my other friends, Maia and Simon. "Sup?" I asked Simon. He smiled back.

"The usual. Just sitting wondering what happened to me having a life." I laughed and pointed to the school.

"This is what happened." I said, gesturing to the school courtyard. While I was doing so I noticed a new kid.

He had blonde hair that seemed to not have been brushed and mesmerizing gold eyes. His face was expertly sculpted as if an artist spent all his life sculpting the perfect face and gave it to him. He could make a girl's knees go weak.

I cut Isabelle's speech on the importance of school, "Who is that?"

I saw everyone turn their head. Maia smirked and walked over to my side. "That's Jace. Hot isn't he?"

I nodded, never taking my eyes off him. He noticed me and smirked. It made him even more irresistible. Lord what was happening to me?

"Good luck trying to get him. Every girl in the school has her eyes on him. There's no chance he's going to ask you out." I turned to Maia and glared.

"Thanks." I hissed. She shrugged innocently.

"I'm just being realistic. You should settle for someone like Simon."

The air became awkward. "No. That isn't happening again." She shrugged again. The bell rang, saving me from further humiliation.

Jace's POV

As I closed my locker I saw the short redhead walk by.

I saw her looking at me in the court yard. He smirked. Another one. Another girl had noticed him.

He pulled out his schedule and looked at his first class. Advanced music. That wasn't a surprise. He was a musical prodigy.

As he reached the class he noticed something. The redhead talking to her tall, black haired friend.

He smiled. This was going to be interesting.
