The peeling wallpaper of the rundown apartment only contributed to the dismal scene Beyond stared at with bored eyes. Sighing, he got up from the couch and stood up from his strange sitting position. With a slight hunch, he shuffled his way to the moldy kitchen that could sour just about anybody's appetite. But not Beyond's. The underweight young adult reached out and grabbed the refrigerator handle, gripping it with enough force to turn his knuckles white, yanking it open.
The dim light from the old bulb inside the cool contraption gave some color to Beyond's ghostly features. The only scrap of food was a single slice of strawberry shortcake, peculiar to any normal person, but as we all know, Beyond wasn't normal.
He pulled the spotless plate out and set it on the table to the right of him, not bothering to close the refrigerator door. Beyond sat down on the one wobbly chair and pulled both his legs up so that his chin could rest on his knees. He eyed the cake apathetically, remembering how it was L's favorite treat. Faintly, his stomach growled in the presence of the food for he hadn't allowed himself the luxury of eating in a couple days.
The creamy white frosting was almost the exact shade of Lawliet's porcelain skin, which was a couple tones lighter than Beyond's. He grazed the vulnerable cake with a long, boney finger. The smooth icing felt like soft velvet. With a slight frown, he wondered if L's skin felt just the same.
Beyond brought his hand up to his face, level with his brilliant red eyes, to study the frosting carefully. How sweet would it taste? As sweet as Lawliet would? With a fully fledged grin he proceeded to stick his slimy pink tongue out from between his thin lips and lick the icing off his lone finger.
Instantly the substance melted in his salivating mouth. The sweet taste of sugar insisted him to consume more.
A quick hand reached out and grabbed a greedy handful of the dessert. It crumbled under his grip as he brought his hand to his mouth once more. He slowly ate the smushed treat, savoring every bite of it.
Swallowing, he picked up the leftover blood red strawberry and held it between his thumb and index finger. Taking a slow bite, the juicy berry dripped down Beyond's slender hand, trickling down his wrist. He thought back to the slaying of his three victims and how their blood stained the carpet, his shirt and his mind.
Oh how he wished he could have seen Lawliet's face.
