An Angelic Christmas.

Castiel looked up from reading the new book Dean had gotten him. The door opening had snatched his attention instead. Gazing up, he jumped and almost fell off the couch. Peering next to the startling object, he turned and saw Sam standing next to it.

"What is that thing? Wait… is that a… tree?" Castiel asked, puzzled and cocking his head to one side, trying to understand their situation. "Why in the Heavens have you brought a tree into this place, they're meant to go outside, you're ruining God's creations!" He rambled on and on, aware of Sam laughing at him, yet unaware of Dean laughing behind him.

"Cas, just shut up will you? Let us explain!" Dean laughed. Castiel spun around to look at him.

"Yes, please will you explain why there is a tree in this room." Castiel countered.

"Cas, we're celebrating Christmas." Sam explained, now standing next to his brother. "You do know what that is, right?"

"You mean, when you humans celebrate the annual Christian festival which is celebrating Christ's birth? Although, of course that is a false date…"

"Yes, Cas, thank you, we don't need a running commentary about it, now, will you help us decorate the tree?" Dean asked, cutting Castiel off.

"I don't really have a choice, do I?" Castiel asked.

"Nope." Sam replied, grabbing the box of decorations and placing it onto the table.

So all afternoon, the three of them slaved away, decorating the tree, placing tinsel around the room and hanging it on the walls. The cheap, stained, motel room was filled with laughter and banter, although, Castiel only managed to understand a few jokes. He was still getting used to human nature. It was, in fact, late evening when they all finally stepped back to admire their work. Yet, there was just one thing missing.

"Castiel, would you do the honour of hanging the angel on top of the Christmas tree?" Dean asked him, reaching over to grab the plastic thing.

"You want me to sit on top of the Christmas tree? Don't get me wrong, Dean, I'm flattered, but I don't think I'll fit." Castiel said, confused at the request. He only seemed to get more confused when both Sam and Dean doubled over in fits of laughter.

"What?" He asked. "What is so funny about what I just said, that is what you meant, isn't it?"

"No!" Dean laughed. "I want you to put this-" He showed him the plastic angel "on top of the Christmas tree!"

"Oh." Castiel replied, turning an embarrassing shade of red. He plucked the angel out of Deans hand and swiftly reached up and placed it on top of the tree.

"There." He said, turning around to face the two, who still had grins plastered on their faces.

They each grabbed a beer and settled down onto the couch, wanting to show Castiel a real cheesy Christmas movie. And with them all sitting together, enjoying a real holiday for once, it felt like family.
