Chapter Fifty Four - In Which Dumbledore Knows
Author's Note - Today I had a terrible day :( So I'm writing this to cheer me and you up :) because life is too short to stay worried about things.
Tonks sighed snuggling in deeper to Remus's couch letting the smell of old books surround her. Placing a pillow over her stomach she looked around to see Remus sitting opposite her with a funny look on his face.
"Comfy enough?" he asked half mocking half serious.
"I could be comfier" winked Tonks making Remus choke on his hot chocolate.
Casually Remus put down his hot chocolate and pretended that he didn't hear. He knew exactly what she was trying to do, and he also knew that it wouldn't work. He'd been well practiced in the art of resisting temptation.
"Humph" tonks let out another sigh, stretching out one of her legs against the armchair.
"I just want you to know that I know exactly what you're doing" he said in a matter of fact kind of way.
"I have absolutely no idea. Do explain" smiled Tonks cheekily, "what ever could you mean?"
This made Remus blush red, "Your trying to get me to come over there and kiss you by looking all adorable" he stuttered suddenly realising how good she did look. Darn, why did she have to look so good all the time? Even when she was casually lying on his sofa she looked like some sort of supermodel. Who was he kidding…This wasn't just any other girl. This was Tonks and he needed to kiss her now.
"And is it working?" asked Tonks hopefully.
Before she had a chance to say anymore suddenly Remus was just there and next he was kissing her just the way she liked. Tonks smiled at the warmth of Remus's hand on her waist and gentleness of his hand at her neck. She could feel Remus smile as they kissed and couldn't help but smile back. Remus was her everything, kind and sweet, moral and intelligent.
Although sometimes Tonks wished that he wasn't moral enough to kiss her like that more often.
"Nymphadora-"muffled Remus pulling away, only making Tonks kiss harder. Remus sighed and continued to kiss her. After all her kisses were better than firewisky.
Sooner or later Tonks knew that inevitably she would have to come up for air and when she did Remus took the opportunity to move her legs and sit as far back away from Tonks on the couch that he could.
Tonks sighed curling up her legs. She knew he was right to do that. She didn't want to move to fast and it wasn't like they were married or anything, she didn't want to turn into one of "those" couples.
"So I ran into Dumbledore the other day at the ministry…" Tonks said casually flicking the imaginary dirt from under her fingernails and trying not to look too flushed. "He seemed to be under the impression that I was in relatively close contact with you". Tonks scanned his blue eyes carefully. "I was wondering how much exactly he knows about us?".
"Everything" replied Remus looking somewhat guilty.
"Everything?" repeated Tonks as if not quite sure that she heard correctly the first time. "You told him everything?"
"Everything" he said again.
"Why?" asked Tonks feeling somewhat put out by the fact that the headmaster knew she was dating one of her teachers.
"The man intimidates me!" exclaimed Remus, "he can always tell when I'm lying to him and he was determined to know why I didn't want to come back as Defence against the dark arts teacher".
"So you told him you didn't want to come back because of me?" asked Tonks somewhat surprised. She hadn't realised that she was the reason she had really left. She had thought it was because he had wanted to work in the London Library, although now of course thinking about it made her feel stupid. Of course no one would rather work in a muggle library than at Hogwarts. Who was she kidding?
"I'm sorry" said Tonks suddenly feeling very bad, "I never wanted to make you leave Hogwarts".
"Don't apologize" Replied Remus, "It would never have worked out there anyway. I felt too guilty about the fact that I would turn into a raging werewolf once a month and might kill you".
Tonks didn't say anything just gave him a look that said she didn't mind one bit whether or not he was a werewolf.
"And I'm sorry for telling Dumbledore. I should have asked you first" said Remus.
Tonks sighed squeezing his hand. "I know you did the right thing Gem. But I can't help but feel that every conversation with Dumbledore is going to be a living nightmare"
Remus nodded, "Don't worry. It will be".
