Disclaimer: I don't own Grey's. Things would be different if I did.
I had this thought after 9.15 that wouldn't go away, so alas this fic was created. Hope you enjoy.
Part of him thought they'd done the right thing. If they hadn't of quit, Pegasus would've taken over Seattle Grace and changed everything that made it the hospital they all worked it and grew as surgeons in. He didn't want to have other people making decisions regarding his patients, who he could and couldn't see, and worse, how long he could see them for. That was a good surgeon, and that was the kind of surgeon he was. He became a doctor to save lives, to dedicate himself to their cases and making sure that they had the best care possible.
But things changed, and fast. Instead, they were forced to make choices that they didn't want to make and in a matter of hours, they were unemployed. He knew it wouldn't, and hopefully be; for long but knowing that Seattle Grace wasn't the same place he could only hope that it was fixed and fast.
He knew it wasn't their fault. None of it was. They didn't know, that going on that plane that it would crash. That it was faulty. That it would cost the lives of Mark and Lexie. Owen put them on that plane, knowing that it wasn't safe, all because it was cheaper for the hospital. And even though he wanted to blame him; he had to move on and fix it. Others depended on it.
And now, as they sat thinking about what they could call themselves, he closed his eyed and reached over for Meredith, knowing that with everything going on, they had one good thing to look forward to, the birth of their second child.
Meredith's pregnancy was progressing amazingly well. Her morning sickness had subsided and cravings weren't too crazy. Every time he looked over at her, he smiled and then looked down at her bump. Her perfect little bump, where their unborn baby was.
She was glowing and he thought that she'd never looked more gorgeous as she did pregnant.
"Uh, Derek" He heard someone say to him, "I think Grey fell asleep"
He opened his eyes, and looked to his left, to see that Callie was right. Meredith's eyes were closed and he could tell that she was sleeping.
"Yeah, I'm going to take her to bed". He gently gathered her in his arms, placing a soft kiss on her head, before taking her to their bedroom.
He placed her down on her side of the bed and proceeded to undress her when he felt a hand over his.
"Derek" Meredith said softly, "Thank you."
"For what?"
"Everything." She said, "Trying to save the hospital, not giving up"
"You don't have to thank me." He told her, "I'm just doing what's right, for everyone".
"I know, but still." She carefully got up and placed her hands on his cheeks. "You're a good man, the best. I love you" Kissing his softly. Derek placed his hands on her sides before wrapping his arms around her for a passionate kiss.
"I love you too." He said after a moment, "Why don't you change and go to sleep. It's been a long day."
"I'm going to, I'm beyond exhausted." She told him, "Say goodbye and goodnight for me to everyone".
"I will". Kissing her softly once more before leaving their bedroom and closing the door.
He knew things were about to get big and intense, and that their lives would be changing with a lot of things he didn't know the answers to, but if there was one thing he did know, it was that he had Meredith. And no matter what happened he had his family with Zola and their unborn baby, and that was enough for him.
The end.
